ATHOL - Funeral services for Doris M. (Conway) Butkiewicz, 83, of 88 Drury Ave., were held Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004 in the St. Francis Of Assisi Church. The celebrant was Rev. Stephen D. Johnson. Theresa Gabsi was the organist and cantor.
Burial followed in St. Joseph´s Cemetery, Leicester.
The J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home directed the arrangements.
Berta H. (Harper) Tyler

ATHOL - Berta H. (Harper) Tyler, 79, of 95 Elm St., died Friday, Sept. 10, 2004, in the Athol Memorial Hospital, Athol.
She was born in St. Joseph, Louisannia, on Sept. 17, 1924, the daughter of the late Marable and the late Janei (Newell) Harper. Mrs. Tyler was raised in Louisiana State College.
She met her husband, Robert M. Tyler, and they married in 1945 Mrs. Tyler was a resident of Athol for over 50 years.
She enjoyed gardening.
She leaves a daughter, Susan T. Schneider and her husband, Jonathan, of Greencove, FL; three grandchildren, Katherine N. Schneider of Atlanta, GA, Jonathan M. Schneider of Florida.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert M. Tyler, and by her son, Robert M. Tyler, Jr.
Funeral services will be private.
There are no calling hours.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to the Athol YMCA 545 Main St., Athol, MA 01331.

William C. Launier
World War II Veteran
WINCHENDON - William C. Launier, 81, formerly of 103 Ipswich Dr., died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004, in the Baldwinville Nursing Home on his 81st birthday.
He was born in Worcester on Sept. 9, 1923, son of Arthur M. and Henrietta (Casavant) Launier and had resided in Winchendon for 76 years.
His wife of 45 years, Gloria E. (Dunchus) Launier, died in 1992.
He was a meat supervisor at the former Co - op Supermarket in Calif.; two sisters, Bella R. Girouard and Aurore E. Paradise, both of Winchendon; three grandchildren; four great - grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 14, at 2 p.m. in the Snow - Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central St. The Rev. Roland L. Gamache, pastor of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, will officiate. Burial will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery, Fitzwilliam, Maine, formerly of Orange, passed away on Sept. 2, 2004 in Bangor, Maine in 1992, Sylvia resided in Westport and Orange.
She married Derrill H. Ballou on Oct. 7, 1944. They would have celebrated their 60th year together, Oct. 7, 2004.
Sylvia is survived by four children, Lorraine Schofield and her husband, Tom, of Cumberland, RI, Alan Ballou and his wife, Donna, of Etna, Maine, Jesse Newberry and his wife, Felicia, of Cumberland RI, Jacob Ballou of Etna, Maine, where she will be dearly missed but remembered greatly for the 40 years she dedicated her life teaching others what the Bible said about God’s Kingdom and his promises. She will be missed by her special friends, BLU and Daisy.
A memorial service will be held on Sept. 25, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Pittsfield, Maine at 1 p.m.
Graveside services at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Etna will be private.
J. Alfred “Al” Hachey
Was Area Businessman
ATHOL - J. Alfred “Al” Hachey, 94 of Athol, died Wednesday, September 08, 2004, in the Heywood Hospital in Gardner.
He was born in Fitchburg, on February 5, 1910, the son of the late Joseph C. and the late Rose (Gionet) Hachey. He grew up in Athol and was educated here, he was a life - long resident. Mr. Hachey was the owner of Tony’s Dutch Room in Orange for many years. He retired in 1975.
Mr. Hachey was a lifetime member of Athol - Orange Lodge Of Elks #1837. He was the recipient of a lifetime achievement award and received the Elks Man of the Year award. He was active in local and state politics.
Mr. Hachey was a communicant of Our Lady Immaculate Church. He leaves one brother, Lee E. Hachey of Laguna Niguel, CA and many nephews and nieces.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Edward Hachey, William Hachey, and two sisters, Marion Weinart, and Evelyn Boudreau. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, Sept. 11, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St. Burial will be follow in Gethsemane Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Friday, Sept. 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fiske Funeral Home, 1356 Main Street. Members of the Athol - Orange Lodge Of Elks No. 1837 will conduct a ritual service at 7 p.m.

Laurent N. Gregoire
Owner Of Gregoire And Son Plastering
ROCHESTER - Laurent N. “Pat” Gregoire, 76, of Rochester, died from colon cancer on Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004 at home surrounded by his family.
He was the husband of Theresa (Choquette) Gregoire; they were married for 54 years.
Born in Fairhaven, he was the son of the late Norbert and Laura (Benoit) Gregoire.
He was a communicant of the St. Rose of Lima Church.
He established Gregoire and Son Plastering in 1956 and taught the trade to many men who consider him a legend. He retired due to illness a month ago. He was nicknamed “Popsy Bear.”
He was a past member of the Knights of Columbus, Good Sam's Camping Club and new Bedford Local 39 Plasterers Union.
He collected antique car parts and took pride in restoring his 1932 Chevrolet. He was happiest when working in his back yard. He was gentle, honest and proud of his family. He helped many people.
He enjoyed playing pitch with his close friends, Maurice and Helen Bourbeau; traveling with his wife; clam bakes; yard sales; singing and yodeling; cradling babies; raising chickens; ushering in each week at 8 o'clock Mass followed by breakfast with his dear friends, Butch and Doris Boucher; and family get - togethers.
Survivors include his widow; three sons, Leonard Gregoire and his wife, Christine, of Freetown, Marcel Gregoire and his wife, Lorraine, of Wareham and Gary Gregoire and his wife, Erin, of Mattapoisett; two daughters, Jeannette Oliveira and her husband, Felix, of Largo, Fla., and Elaine Cellana and her husband, Peter, of Orange; a sister, Cecile Arruda of Fairhaven; 13 grandchildren; five great - grandchildren; many god children and nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Rachel Neves, Claire Tremblay and Leonard Gregoire.
His funeral was this morning at the St. Rose of Lima Church, with burial at St. Anthony Cemetery, Mattapoisett.
