ATHOL - Joseph Freeman Lanteigne, 79, of 110 Brattle St., died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004, in the Quabbin Valley Healthcare.
He was born in Athol, on July 18, 1925, the son of the late Nazaire and the late Aphonine (Jean) Lanteigne. He graduated from Athol High School with the class of 1943.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy. He was a foreman, employed by Union Twist Drill for 33 years. He also worked at Niagara Cutter for several years.
Lanteigne was a communicant of the Our Lady Immaculate Church, he was a member of the Athol - Orange Lodge Of Elks 1837, the Edward H. Phillips American Legion Post No. 102, the Roy L. Boyce Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 650 of Athol and the Petersham Gun Club.
He enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting and cribbage.
He was a bartender at the Silver Front and the Highland Café for many years.
He leaves his wife of 54 years, Lillian M. (Maloney) Lanteigne; one daughter, Terry A. Adriano De Oliver of Dover, NJ; seven sons, Stephen J. Lanteigne of Tucson, AZ, Jon B. Lanteigne of Easthampton, MA, David J. Lanteigne of Natick, Peter J. Lanteigne of Athol, Marc P. Lanteigne of Concord, NH, Christopher M. Lanteigne of Athol, Jean P. Lanteigne of Athol; one sister, Gloria Duguay of Templeton; one brother, Ned Lanteigne of CA; seven grandchildren; one great grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sister, Edith Rondeau, and his brother, Raymond J. Lanteigne.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 24, at 10 a.m. in the J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home.
Burial in Silver Lake Cemetery will be at a date, to be announced.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday, Nov. 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to a charity of one’s choice.

WALTERBORO, S.C. - Shirley J. (Duda) Arms, 52, of 214 Pansy St., died on Nov. 20, 2004 following a motorcycle accident.
Born in Brattleboro, VT, on June 20, 1952, she was a daughter of Dominick and Marilyn (Whitney) Duda and grew up in Greenfield, MA where she was also attended school.
Following school, she lived on Cape Cod for many years, having worked at a package store there and was a private housekeeper in several Cape Cod homes.
An accomplished seamstress, she was talented in making quilts, and enjoyed gardening as well.
She enjoyed riding her Harley - Davidson motorcycle, and was traveling on it at the time of her death.
Besides her parents of Orange, MA, she is survived by a sister, Dorothy Frye, and her husband David, of Orange, MA; brothers Wayne Duda, and his wife Susan, of Greenfield, MA and Daniel Duda of Reno, NV; her companion of several years, David A. Inferrera of Waltersboro, SC; several nephews and nieces; several grand nephews and nieces; and aunts and uncles.
A memorial service will be held at a later date and time to be announced.

Antoinette C. Kovalsick
Raised Rabbits
ORANGE - Antoinette C. (Gregory) Kovalsick, 76, formerly of 66 Sandrah Dr., died Friday afternoon, Nov. 19, 2004 at the Marlboro Hills Healthcare, Marlboro, following an illness.
Born on Feb. 2, 1928 in Millers Falls, she grew up there.
She was married to Bernard Kovalsick, who died May 30, 1987.
A homemaker, she enjoyed gardening, knitting, and had raised rabbits at one time.
Survivors include her sons, Mark Kovalsick of Orange, Wayne Kovalsick of Greenfield, John Kovalsick of Baltimore, MD, and Carl Kovalsick of New York; grandchildren, Kendra Kovalsick, James, Kovalsick, Kyle Kovalsick, and Kristina Kovalsick; and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday morning, Nov. 24, at 10 a.m. at Witty's Funeral Home. The Rev. Vance E. Frank will officiate.
Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Turners Falls.
There will be a calling hour from 9 to 10 a.m. prior to the service.

Ledoux Services
ORANGE - A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, Nov. 20, in St. Mary's Church, for Edward J. Ledoux, 82, of 129 Prentiss St., who died on Nov. 13, 2004 in the Athol Memorial Hospital, Athol, after being stricken ill earlier at home. The Rev. Fr. William Lunney was the celebrant. Janet Paoletti was the organist and Theresa Bergquist was the cantor. Wifred Richards was the alter server. Eddie's son, Joseph Ledoux, read the eulogy.
Interment followed in South Cemetery. Military honors were provided by Petty Officers Brain McCarthy and Paul Bennett of the United States Navy. Petty Officer McCarthy presented the United States flag to Eddie's wife, Aline. Following the committal service, a reception was held in St. Mary's Parish Hall.

Mary Crowl,
age 101 of orange, dies
ORANGE - Mary Louise (Neylon) Crowl, 101, passed away Friday, Nov. 19, at the Wachusett Manor in Gardner.
She was born Nov. 27, 1902 in Barre, a daughter of William and Catherine Neylon, and sister to John, Ted, Daniel, William, Kathryn, and Hazel, all deceased.
She graduated from Barre High School at age 16 and began a lifelong career in teaching. She taught elementary school until the age of 70, when she retired to travel, tend her gardens, read novels, cook, and spend time with her family and friends.
She was married to the late Errol P. Crowl of New Salem, and lived for many years on Chestnut Hill in Orange before finally settling in at her home at 84 Walnut Hill. Together, they had three daughters, Marion, Sylvia, and Nyca.
Her teaching career began in New Salem in a one - room school house with a wood stove. It was there she taught grades 1 to 12. She also taught elementary education in the towns of Orange, North Orange, and the former town of Dana which was evacuated to make way for the Quabbin Reservoir.
She attended normal school in Fitchburg where she received her teaching degree and certification. After graduating from Fitchburg, she was employed in the elementary school system in North Orange and taught there until the new Dexter Park Elementary School was constructed to handle the elementary grades for Orange. At Dexter Park, she taught fourth grade until 1971, when she transferred to Butterfield Elementary School in Orange and taught there until her retirement at age 70, in 1972.
She leaves three daughters, Marion L. Deegan of Orange, Sylvia P. Lawson, and her husband Hugh, of King of Prussia, Penn., and Nyca Hall, and her husband Arnold, of Watch Hill, R.I.; nine grandchildren; ten great - grandchildren; two great - great - grandchildren; a cousin, Harrison Neylon of Worcester; and several nephews and nieces.
Funeral services are private and there are no calling hours.

ORANGE - Mary Crowl, 101, formerly of Orange, died this morning, Nov. 19, at Wachusett Manor in Gardner.

WARWICK - John B. "Jack" McKnight, 51, of 355 Wendell Rd., died on Thursday morning, Nov. 18, 2004 at Athol Memorial Hospital, Athol, following an illness.
Born in the Athol Memorial Hospital on Nov. 4, 1953, he was a son of John A. and Emma L. (Copeland) McKnight, grew up in Warwick and attended Pioneer Valley Regional School in Northifeld.
He was married to Marian (Jacques) on Nov. 4, 1979 and they had enjoyed 25 years of marriage together.
He had worked for Joe Diemand and for the Town of Warwick many years with the highway department. He had also been the Warwick landfill attendant.
Besides his loving wife, Marian, survivors include a son, John C. McKnight of Warwick; a daughter, Emmalie McKnight, of Warwick; brothers, William McKnight of Warwick and Kevin McKnight of Orange; a sister, Marian Brostek, of Winchester, NH; his special niece, Sarah Brostek, and several nephews and nieces.
A family man, he was interested in Ford Motor Co. cars, trucks, and tractors.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Nov. 22, at 2 p.m. in the Metcalf Memorial Chapel, Athol Road, Warwick, with the Rev. Dan Dibble officiating.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, Nov. 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Witty's Funeral Home, 158 South Main St., Orange.
Interment will be held on Saturday, Nov. 27, in the Warwick Center Cemetery at 1 p.m.
