Elizabeth M. Thrower
ORANGE - Elizabeth Mae Thrower, 81, of 25 Rosemont Ave., died Friday, Nov. 19, 2004 at Athol Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Athol, Nov. 23, 1922, a daughter of Spencer G. and Lottie (Newton) Thrower Sr. She had lived in Athol most of her life and since 1994 has resided in Orange with her sister Ann Carley. She graduated from Athol High School in 1940.
She worked for the former New England Telephone as a switchboard operator for 33 1&Mac218;2 years in the Athol and Vermont until 2002 and to the Yukon and British Columbia.
She was an honorary member of Puritan Charity Themis Atlantic Chapter 29 in Milford, N.H. - Mary C. Lawson, 76, of Eastview Road, died Tuesday morning, Nov. 16, 2004, at her home following a period of failing health.
She was born in Boston, Mass., March 10, 1928, the daughter of Loren R. and Mary (Conley) Taintor. She grew up in Phillipston, Mass., graduating in 1945 from Athol High School.
Mrs. Lawson moved to Keene in 1952 where she worked as a secretary with the WKNE Radio Station of Keene. In 1958, she began her most important career of raising her children and making a wonderful home for her family.
She was a longtime member of the Brattleboro, Vt. American Legion Post 5 Auxiliary, the West Swanzey VFW Post 2616 Auxiliary, and the Loyal Women's Order of Moose Lodge 478 of Keene. She was an avid golfer and longtime member of Brentwood Golf Course in Keene. She enjoyed cooking, dancing and playing bridge, participating in a local duplicate bridge club for many years.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Dr. Glenn H. Lawson of Keene; a son, Kevin Lawson and his wife Kathy of Westmoreland; a daughter, Kathie Sullivan and her husband Michael of Marlborough; five grandchildren, David Whitney, Alyssa Thomas, Sean Sullivan, Ryan Lawson, and Kaitlyn Lawson; and two great - grandchildren, Kyah and Isaiah Whitney. She is also survived by two brothers, Edward Taintor and his wife Margaret of Athol, and Russell Taintor and his wife Joy of East Templeton, Mass.; a sister, Patricia Calif. - Eleanor (Taylor ) Smith, known to her family as "Tillie," died on Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004, in Burbank.
She was born in Athol, Mass., on Feb. 25, 1922 to William and Evangeline Taylor.
After graduating from Orange High School in 1939, she worked as a housekeeper and at L.S. Starrett Co. in Athol during World War II.
In the early 1950s, she moved to the Los Angeles area and in 1953 married Ivan Smith. They lived in North Hollywood and were married almost 50 years before he died in December 2002.
Last year she relocated to Sunland to be closer to her daughter and family.
She leaves a daughter, Ellen (Richard) Anderson and two grandchildren, Erin and Erik; a sister, Elsie Blanchard of West Springfield, Mass.; three brothers, Everett Taylor of Athol, Lloyd Taylor of Orange, and Vernon Taylor of Marietta, Ga.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a sister, Winona Rand; and three brothers, George Taylor, Murton Taylor and Maurice Taylor.
She was a kind, hard working and selfless soul who will be greatly missed by her family.
A Memorial service will be held early next year.

Down Services
ORANGE - A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday morning, Nov. 16, at St. Mary's Church for John J. Down, 74, of 176 South Main St., who died on Thursday, Nov. 11, at Athol Memorial Hospital after being stricken ill earlier at home.
The Rev. Fr. William Lunney celebrated the Mass along with Deacon Joseph Bucci. Janet Paoletti was the organist. Wilfred Richards and Paige Logan were the Alter servers. The Old Testement reading was by Patty Mickey and Michael Magee read the New Testement reading. The gifts were brought forward by Mr. Down's Grandchildren, C. J., Victor, Jeremiah, and Joseph Capuzzo, and Paige Logan. The eulogy was offered by his daughter, Kathleen Down - Logan and rememberances were read by Pat Babbit. The pallbearers were C.J. and Victor Capuzzo, Michael Magee, Paul Babbit, and Ruben Cisneros. Following Mass, a reception was held in St. Mary's Parish Hall. Interment was in the afternoon in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington.

PHILLIPSTON - William J. Walker, 48, of 409 Queen Lake Rd., died Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, in Heywood Hospital, Gardner, following a short illness.

ORANGE - Edward J. Ledoux, 82, of 129 Prentiss St., died on Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004 in Athol Memorial Hospital, Athol, after being stricken ill earlier at home.
Born in Orange on March 2, 1922, he was a son of Joseph and Dora (Cloutier) Ledoux and had lived in Orange his entire life, as well attending the Orange schools.
He enlisted into the United States Navy on Nov. 4, 1942, serving during World War Two. A Ship Store Keeper 2nd Class, he served in the Mediterranean and Pacific Theatres until being Honorably discharged Nov. 13, 1945.
He was married to Joyce (Begor) until she died in 1985, and later married Aline (Chevalier) with whom he had enjoyed over 15 years of marriage together.
Following his Naval discharge, he worked at the former Orange Clothing Store, NECCO Candy Company in Boston, Prudential Insurance, and was working as a self employed carpenter when he retired in 1985.
He was a life - long member of St. Mary's Church in Orange and a former member of the Orange Council of the Knights of Columbus. A member of the American Legion Post 172 in Orange, he was also a member of the Last Man's Club of World War II, and a Life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5124.
Besides his wife, Aline, survivors include five sons, Edward Ledoux Jr. of Orange, John Ledoux of Athol, Raymond Ledoux of Orange, Joseph Ledoux of Southwick, and Timothy Ledoux of Orange; eleven grandchildren; nine great - grandchildren; several nephews and nieces; and a sister, Orianna Barrett, of Orange.
A sister, Leona Lawton, predeceased him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Nov. 20, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church. Interment will follow in South Cemetery, Orange.
There are no calling hours.
