Michael Desreuisseau
GREENFIELD - Michael D. Desreuisseau, 48, of 88 Lincoln St., died at home on Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004 following an illness.
Born in Athol on March 21, 1956, he was a son of Donald and Joyce (Ellsworth) Desreuisseau and grew up in the Athol - Orange area, graduating from the Ralph C. Mahar Regional School in Orange in 1974.
An HVAC technician, he was employed with Donahue Realty up until his illness. He previously had worked for the Erving Paper Mill, Orange Oil Company, and Northfield Mount Hermon School in Northfield.
Michael enjoyed watching sports and loved the New England Patriots, and also did wood carving. He was an enthusiastic golfer and enjoyed being out on the course.
Survivors include his mother and step father, Joyce and Robert Labrecque of Athol; a son, Nicholas Desreuisseau of Athol; a daughter Amy Desreuisseau of Athol; two brothers, Brian Desreuisseau of North Adams and Ricky Desreuisseau of Athol; a sister, Amie Tarantola of Woods of Gardner; his maternal grandfather Ulric Racine of Texas, Raymond St. Hilaire of Athol, Dell St. Hilaire of Athol, and Kenneth St. Hilaire of Athol; two sisters, Doris Murray of California; one brother, Matteo Giuffre of Athol; 11 grandchildren; several great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her stepfather, Ignazio Giuffre, and by a sister, Barbara Pelkey of Moors, NY.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, Dec. 27, at 10 a.m. in the Our Lady Immaculate Church.
Burial will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to the Our Lady Immaculate Church - Building Fund, 192 School St., Athol, MA 01331.
Leblanc 49, of 349 South St., were held Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004, with a Mass of the Angels in Our Lady Immacualte Church. The celebrant was Rev. Stephen D. Johnson. The organist and cantor was Theresa Gabis.
Burial followed in Gethsemane Cemetery. The bearers were Larry Gionet, Albert Gionet, Mark Gionet, John Breen, John Scata and Bill Dempsey.
The J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home directed the arrangements.
Leta C. Dowse
ATHOL - Leta C. (Gaudette) Dowse, 84, of 20 Maple St. died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004 at the Athol Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Groveton, Texas; three daughters, Rebecca Rocci of Shrewsbury, Kimberly Coy and Lynnette King, both of Orange; 10 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 28 in Gardner after an illness.
She was born in Mantta, Finland on July 30,1918, the daughter of Ilmi and Arvit Salminen. She was one of ten siblings.
Sanni first came to the United States in 1939 and lived with her sisters in New York City, where she worked different jobs and became a housewife and mother, when she married her late husband, Veikko.
In 1952, they moved to Royalston. Until recently she loved to play bingo, go bowling, or play cards with her friends. She was also willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in the community. She organized several social events in the Town of Royalston.
Her husband of 52 years, Veikko R. Jarvenpaa, died in 2003.
She leaves a daughter and son - in - law, Mailis and Jari Ahoranta; two sons, Wayne Jarvenpaa and his life partner, Pam Vaillancourt, and Ivar Jarvenpaa; three sisters, Mailis Hanka and Ellen Timonen, both of Finland, and Eeva Pooman of Lantana, Fla.; three grandchildren, Jillian, Erick and Emily, as well as many nieces and nephews, here and in Finland.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 26 in the Snow - Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central St., Winchendon. The Rev. Dr. Virginia E. Asel will officiate.
There are no calling hours.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
Lester E. Legrand
Woodworker, Horseman
ATHOL - Lester E. Legrand, 77, of 260 Fairview Ave., died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004, at the Athol Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Athol on Oct. 20, 1927, a son of Eugene and Ellen F. (Beeler) Legrand. He had resided in Athol all of his life and attended Athol schools.
Mr. Legrand was in the United States Army during the Korean War and was stationed in occupied Germany. He was a self - employed woodworker, previously working for Temple Oil Company, First National Stores, the Athol Ice Co. and was a great horseman in his early years.
He was a man with very strong family values, loved family get - togethers and was very fond of his nieces and nephews.
He loved farming, hunting, fishing and raising Christmas trees.
He leaves a sister, Faith F. Cummings, and a brother, Ronald Legrand, both of Athol; two nephews, Kris and Kurt Legrand, both of Athol; five nieces, Jean (Cummings) Cox, Dianne (Cummings) MacDonald both of Athol, Sharron (Gray) Green of Winthrop, ME, Kimberly Legrand and Kay Ellen (Legrand) Chicoine both of Athol and numerous grand nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Francis and Junior Legrand, a sister, Joyce Gray, and a niece, Karen (Legrand) Roberts.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 24, at 10 a.m., at the Higgins - O’Connor Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. R. Lee Smith, pastor of the Starrett Memorial United Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Thursday, Dec. 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Dorothy St. Hilaire
ATHOL - Dorothy St. Hilaire, 76, of 185 South Athol Rd., died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004 in the Quabbin Valley Healthcare.
