Charles L. Verheyen
Fireman, Mechanic
GREENFIELD - Charles L. Verheyen, 73, of 10 Temple St., long time resident of Hadley, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004 at the Calvin Coolidge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Northampton.
He was born in Everett on May 15, 1931, son of the late Charles J. and Gertrude (Toomey) Verheyen. He attended local schools in Everett, and entered the United States Army directly from school, serving his country during the Korean War as a paratrooper.
He had lived in Hadley for many years before moving to Greenfield about seven years ago. He had been a volunteer fireman for the North Hadley Fire Department, and worked as a master mechanic for many local construction companies and local businesses.
He had a much sought after talent of being able to “do anything” that needed to be done. He was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed stock car racing.
He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Dianne (Griswold) Verheyen; also his former wife, Ethel Verheyen of Orange; four sons, Eddie Verheyen of Athol, Chuck Verheyen of Orange, Martin Peterson of Southbridge, and Matthew Peterson of Northampton; three duahgters, Esther Hazzard of Worcester, Dottie Verheyen of Orange, and Kara Scott of Albuquerque, NM; four sisters, Terry Kerskey of Memphis, TN, Shirley Remick of Stoughton, Dottie Denny of Bourne, and Sylvia Harnon of Duxbury. He also leaves 17 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Douglass Funeral Service, 87 North Pleasant St., Amherst, with burial following in the Whately Center Cemetery.
There are no calling hours.

ORANGE - Jennie L. Forrister, 42, of 519 East River St., died on Monday, Dec. 6, 2004 at St. Vincent's Hospital - Worcester Medical Center, Worcester, following an illness.
Born on Oct. 21, 1962 in El Paso, Wyoming where she had lived most of her life.
A resident of Orange for the past two years, she was a caring and determined woman who didn't let her disability slow her down. She had managed a web site from home about home offices and enjoyed doing crafts.
A loving daughter and mother, she is survived by her parents, of Wyoming; a daughter, Ashli Garton, of Orange; her companion of seven years, Jim Rourke of Orange with whom she lived; a brother, Nathan Forrister of Cheyenne, WY; sisters, Bobbie Clingman and Linda Forrister, both of Cheyenne, and Lindsey Forrister and Rene Forrister, both of El Paso.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. at Witty's Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mark Bariloni of the Athol - Orange Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in South Cemetery, Orange.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, Dec. 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Easter Seals, 484 Main St., Worcester, MA 01608 - 1817.

Helen Lipiec
Born In Poland
WOBURN - Helen (King) Lipiec, 75, of Woburn, passed away at the New England Rehabilitation Hospital in Woburn on Tuesday morning, Dec. 7, 2004, after a short illness.
She was born in Poland, the daughter of the late Stanislaw, and the late Scholastyka King; and the wife of the late Kazimierz Lipiec, who died in 2001. She and her husband had moved to Woburn from Poland 11 years ago.
She is survived by two sons, Zbigniew Lipiec of Woburn and Wieslaw Lipiec and his wife Kathy (Grindle) of Athol. She is also survived by three grandsons, Christopher, Adam and Nicholas Lipiec; and several sisters in Poland.
Services will be private.
Funeral arrangements are by the Graham Funeral Home, 3 Arlington Rd., Woburn.
