Edward A. Painter, 84
Edward A. Painter, 84, of 240 Fort Pond Road, Lancaster,
died Saturday, April 14, 2001 at home after a brief illness.
He leaves his wife of 59 years, Gertrude (Phillips) Painter;
a sister, Judith Kenney of Babylon, Long Island, Texas. He moved to Lancaster in 1953.
Mr. Painter worked at George S. Carrington Co. in Leominster,
retiring in 1978. He was previously a licensed pilot
and licensed airplane mechanic.
He was a member of the Oak Hill Country Club, the Mid
State Antique Car Club, and the Wilder Lodge of Masons AF &
AM. He enjoyed golf and automobile restoration.
The funeral service and burial will be private. There are no
calling hours. Donations may be made to a charity. Bosk Funeral
Home, 85 Blossom St., Fitchburg, is directing arrangements.
Joseph J. Kivior, 87
Joseph J. Kivior, 87, of 14 Ross St., Clinton, a retired machinist,
died Friday, April 13, 2001 at home after being stricken ill.
His wife of 56 years, Mary B. (Pastick) Kivior, died in 1996.
He leaves a son, Francis J. Kivior of Clinton; four daughters, Barbara
M. Kennedy of Lancaster, Virginia T. Wessling of Lincroft,
N.J., Mary A. Kivior and Victoria R. Perez, both of Worcester; six
grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nephews and
nieces. He was born in Danielson, Conn., son of Walter and Mary
(Misias zek) Kivior, and lived in Berlin before moving to Clinton
many years ago. He attended Clinton schools.
Mr. Kivior was a machinist at Wickwire-Spencer Co., LaPointe Machine
& Tool in Hudson, and Warner & Swazey Machine & Tool in Worcester
before retiring. He previously worked on the family farm in Berlin.
He was a member of Our Lady of Jasna Gora Church. He was a gardener
and craftsman.
The funeral was held Tuesday, April 17, from Robert J. McNally Funeral
Home, with a Mass in Our Lady of Jasna Gora Church. Burial was in
St. John’s Cemetery, Lancaster. Memorial donations may be made to St.
Mary Elementary School, 128R Franklin St., Clinton, MA 01510.
Gloria J. Harris, 54
Gloria J. (Wagner) Harris, 54, of 216 Bolton Station Road, Lancaster,
formerly of Clinton, a secretary, was stricken ill and died Tuesday,
April 17, 2001 at her home.
She leaves two sons, John and James Wagner, both of Lancaster; a
daughter, Ruth Fawbert of Leominster; four brothers, Albert E. Wagner
of Greendale, Wis., the Rev. Robert W. Wagner of Owings, Md., Willis
E. Wagner of Lancaster and Philip M. Wagner of Clinton; five sisters,
Helen O. Goggins of Marlboro, Hazel L. DeLong of Framingham, Ruth
A. Wagner and Marilyn G. Tierney, both of Clinton, and Diane M.
Marden of Sterling; a grandson; nephews, nieces, grandnephews and
grandnieces. She was born in Clinton, daughter of Willis A. and Leta
M. (Hines) Wagner, and lived in Lancaster for 25 years. She graduated
from Marlboro High School.
Mrs. Harris was a secretary at Compaq, Marlboro, for 20 years. She
previously worked at Nypro in Clinton for 13 years. She was a member
of Seventh-day Adventist Church, Sterling, and enjoyed sports.
The funeral service was held Monday, April 23, in Seventh-day
Adventist Church, Route 12, Sterling. Burial was in Reservoir Pines
Cemetery, Clinton. Memorial contributions may be made to Seventh-day
Adventist Church, Route 12, Sterling, MA 01564.
Elsie M. Anastas, 79
Elsie M. (Burk) Anastas, 79, of 120 Haskell Ave., Clinton, a retired
secretary, died Tuesday, April 17, 2001 at home after being stricken ill.
Her husband, Arthur Anastas, died 10 years ago. She leaves a
brother, George Burk of Clinton; nephews and nieces. Born in Clinton,
daughter of George and Clara (Raucher) Burk, she graduated from
Clinton High School.
The funeral service and burial will be private. There are no calling

Kenneth J. Shampine, 69
Kenneth J. Shampine, 69, of 5314 Country Dale Court, Port Charlotte,
Fla., formerly of Lancaster, Mass., died Tuesday, April 17, 2001 in
Port Charlotte Medical Center after an illness.
He leaves his mother, Gwendolyn (Dalton) Shampine of Fitchburg; a son,
Kenneth Shampine of Winchendon; a daughter, Sally Williams Shampine of
Orlando; a brother, James C. Shampine of Fort Myers; a sister, Roberta
Catalucci of Lancaster; two grandchildren. His father, Clarence J.
Shampine, died in 1973. He was born in Chicago, and lived many years in
Lancaster. He moved to Florida two years ago. He graduated from Leominster
High School in 1950. Mr. Shampine was a drafting engineer many years.
He was a member of Pilgrim Congregational Church in Leominster,
Mass., and Union St. Jean-Baptiste Council 280 in Leominster.
The graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family
in Evergreen Cemetery, Leominster.

Margaret L. Clougherty
Margaret L. (O’Loughlin) Clougherty, 91, of 542 High St.,
Clinton died Friday, May 4, 2001 in Clinton Hospital, after an illness.
Her husband, William G. Clougherty, died in 1975. She leaves three sons,
William M. Clougherty of Worcester, Paul M. Clougherty of Leominster, and
Kevin P. Clougherty of Clinton; a daughter, Denise M. Burke of Lancaster;
10 grandchildren; five greatgrandchildren; and several nieces
and nephews. Born in Hudson, daughter of James J. and Mary A.
(Slamen) O’Loughlin, she was a member of the first class to graduate
from Hudson Catholic High School.
She lived most of her life in Clinton.
Mrs. Clougherty was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church.

Ruth I.T. Meldrum, 92
Ruth I. (Rivard) Taubner Meldrum, 92, of 2754 North Main St.,
Lancaster, died Tuesday, May 1, 2001 in Keystone Nursing Home, Leominster,
after an illness.
Her husband, James B. Meldrum, predeceased her. She leaves
two stepdaughters, Dorothy Baird and Mary Burgwinkle, both of Clinton;
and many step-grandchildren.
Her first husband, Frank Taubner, also predeceased her. She was born
in Clinton, daughter of Henry and Maria (McNeilly) Rivard, and lived
most of her life in Lancaster. She attended Clinton schools. Mrs. Meldrum
was a member of First Co ngregational Church of Clinton, and a
member and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary in Clinton.
The funeral service was held Thursday, May 3, in Robert J.
McNally Funeral Home, 304 Church St., Clinton. Burial was in Woodlawn
Cemetery, Clinton. Donations may be made to First Co ngregational
