John E. Bell, 55
John E. Bell, 55, of 2286 North Main St., Lancaster, died at
home Tuesday, July 17, 2001 after a long illness.
He leaves his wife of 29 years, Lauren (LaBrack) Bell; three
daughters, Jody Dube of Leominster, Nancy Bailey of Lancaster and
MaryAnn Lopez of Billings, Mont.; three sisters, JoAn Bell of Preston McCauley, 17
N.Y.,
and Gerald J. Sawyer of Fitchburg; three daughters, Judith E. Wilson and
Sandra J. Sawyer, both of Berlin, and Kathleen A. Murphy of Rutland; 10
grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by four brothers, Thomas, Patrick, William, and her
twin, Joseph; and three sisters, Mary Johnson, Anna Moquin and Catherine
Murphy. She was born in Clinton, daughter of Patrick J. and Catherine
(Halloran) Murphy, and moved to Berlin in 1950. She graduated from
Clinton High School in 1935.
The funeral was held Wednesday, April 25, from Robert J. McNally
Funeral Home, with a Mass in St. Joseph the Good Provider Church. Burial
was in South Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Berlin

Kenneth P. Bennett, 70
Kenneth P. Bennett, 70, of 1675 Main St., Lancaster, formerly
of Gardner, died Saturday, April 28, 2001 in River Terrace
Nursing Home after a long illness.
He leaves a brother, Clyde Bennett of Ashburnham; three sisters,
Dorothy B. Gransewicz and Gloria R. Marion, both of Gardner,
and Mary L. Shea of Westminster; nephews and nieces. He was born in
Ashburnham, son of Henry and Blanche (Cowdrey) Bennett. He
was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
The funeral service will be private. Burial will be in Wildwood
Cemetery, Gardner. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations
may be made to North Central Human Services, 31 Lake St., Gardner,
MA 01440. Boucher Funeral Home Inc., 110 Nichols St., Gardner,
directed arrangements.
Jeff Chou
Jeff Chou, a senior at Nashoba Regional High School, died Sunday,
April 29, 2001 from injuries suffered in an automobile accident the
previous evening.
According to a press release from Supt. Johanna Van Houten,
Chou’s car went off Birch Hill Road in Stow and struck a tree in front of
his house. Emergency medical personnel were at the scene within minutes
and Chou was Life-Flighted to UMass Medical Center in Worcester.
Funeral services will be private.
Counselors from Nashoba Regional High School and other schools in the
district were brought in to provide support for students and staff members.
Staff members have also consulted with “Good Grief,” a crisis intervention
agency specializing in grief counseling.
Chou’s death is the fourth in the Nashoba Regional community this year.
Junior John Lively died in a car accident in October 2000. Social
Studies teacher Mary Anne Sessions passed away abruptly shortly thereafter.
Last month, long time Latin teacher Winthrop Dahl died after a long illness.
Alice G. Burnam, 75
Alice G. Burnam, 75, of 617 Mill St. Extension, Lancaster, a
retired production supervisor, died Friday, May 11, 2001 at home after an
illness.
She leaves a brother, Clayton A. Burnam, with whom she lived; a
sister, Dorothy Ortiz of Corona, Calif.; many nieces and nephews.
She was born in Lancaster, daughter of Arthur L. and Mildred E.
(Veinot) Burnam, and graduated from Lancaster High School. Miss
Burnam was production supervisor many years at H.H. Scott Co. in
Maynard before retiring.
She was a member of First Church of Christ, Unitarian. She
enjoyed watercolor painting and gardening. A graveside service was
held Tuesday, May 15, in Eastwood Cemetery. Donations may be made
to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
