Rudiger Dornbusch, economist
CAMBRIDGE - Economist Rudiger Dornbusch, acclaimed for his research on the theory of exchange rates and international economic policy, died of cancer on Thursday at his home in Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His 1976 paper on exchange rate dynamics is one of the most-cited economic contributions of the last half-century.
In 27 years teaching at MIT, he trained many international economic policy scholars and practitioners. Dornbusch was also a contributor to Business Week magazine for many years.
Until just a few weeks before his death, he remained actively involved in analyzing economic policy in developing nations, most recently working with MIT colleague Ricardo Caballero to offer suggestions for fiscal and monetary reform in Argentina.
Dornbusch joined the MIT faculty in 1975 and was promoted to full professor in 1978.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Masur of Boston and Indianapolis, Ind., son of Dallas Grider of Indiana; five sisters, Matilda McClain of Indianapolis, Ind., Sandra Ki of New Mexico and Betty Holt of New York native, began working for NBC in 1966 after three years in the Air Force as a public information officer.
He was hired as a news writer and producer and wrote reports for some of the network's top anchors, including Chet Huntley, David Brinkley and Frank McGee.
In 1971, the network made him an on-air correspondent and sent him to Saigon to cover the war in Vietnam. He filed reports for 18 months before leaving to head the network's Houston bureau.
He returned to Asia in 1975 as Saigon bureau chief. There, he arranged the evacuation of 104 Vietnamese NBC employees and their families in the last days of the war.
He closed his career at the network as a producer for special projects, including coordinating coverage of papal visits and presidential trips. He retired from NBC in 1996.
Lord is survived by his wife, Susan, and three children.
Anne Brown, 53, of Ashland
ASHLAND - Anne Brown, 53, of Ashland, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at her residence.
She was the wife of Richard Brown, to whom she had been married for 32 years. They have been residents of Ashland for 25 years.
She was the daughter of Arnold and Eleanor (Tisdale) Wirick.
She graduated from the Newton-Wellesley School of Nursing in 1970, then received her bachelor's degree in nursing from Worcester State College and her master's degree in nursing from Simmons College. A nurse at Newton-Wellesley Hospital for 33 years, she was the program coordinator of the Cardiovascular Health Center and nurse practitioner for the Newton-Wellesley Hospital Cardiology Department. She received the Annual Award for Excellence in Nursing Practice in 1992, the Excel Team Practice Award in 1994, and the Partners in Excellence Award in 2000.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is survived by two sons, Michael Brown and his wife, Esperanza, of Framingham, and Sean Brown and his wife, Lisa, of Plymouth; one sister, Linda Griffin of Framingham; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Monday, Sept. 30, at 11 a.m. at the Community United Methodist Church, Rte. 27, Wayland.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, Sept. 29, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main Street, Ashland.
Donations may be made in her memory to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701; or to the MetroWest Cancer Care Center, 115 Lincoln St., Framingham, MA 01702.
Blanche D. (Couture) Fournier, 85, of Ashland
ASHLAND - Blanche D. (Couture) Fournier, 85, of Ashland, formerly of Worcester, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, in Natick at the Mary Ann Morse Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a period of declining health.
She was the wife of the late Leonard F. Fournier Sr., who died in 1993.
Born in Methuen, she was the daughter of the late George and Mary (Bilodeau) Couture.
She was a graduate of Mount Carmel High School in Methuen, Class of 1929. Along with her husband, she had owned the Ashland News Store from 1959 to 1998.
She leaves two daughters, Donna Spillane and her husband, John, of Sagamore Beach, and Franky Hagan of Ashland; a son, Leonard F. (Cappy) Fournier and his wife, Janet, of Ashland; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will take place Wednesday, Dec. 4, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St., Ashland, with burial to follow at Wildwood Cemetery in Ashland.
Calling hours at the funeral home are Wednesday from 11 a.m. to the time of the service.
