Kathleen Sarah Sloan, 33
NASHUA, N.H., died unexpectedly Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at the home of her parents.
She was born in Lowell, a daughter of Robert and Maureen (Flavin) Sloan.
Miss Sloan was a registered nurse, specializing in oncology and the caring of terminally ill patients. She was raised in Chelmsford, and was a 1987 graduate of Chelmsford High School. She was a graduate of St. Elizabeth's School of Nursing. She also attended Cape Cod Community College, and earned a degree in 1989.
During her time on the Cape, she was a lifeguard at South Beach in Martha's Vineyard, taking part in the rescue of many swimmers in distress. She was recently employed at the Youville Rehabilitation Hospital in Cambridge, prior to serious injuries incurred in a fall early this year.
Miss Sloan was a volunteer nurse for the AmriCares Foundation, founded by Robert Macauley and is wife, Leila, a humanitarian non-profit organization providing medical and other assistance to needy people in the third world countries, as well as programs to provide the same help in the United States.
She made trips as a nurse assisting doctors in Africa and Guatemala, and still had a strong interest in this type of work and was planning to make more trips in the future. A previous resident of Boston and Cambridge, she was recuperating from her injuries at the home of her parents. She was a member of the Trinity Church in Boston for many years.
In addition to her parents, she leaves two sisters, Jennifer Andrews and her husband, Rob, of Mesa, Ariz., and Christine Sloan and her boyfriend, Craig Herlihy, of Tyngsboro; her paternal grandmother, Mabel Sloan of Nashua, N.H.

Lorna J. Carter
WHITINSVILLE -- Lorna J. (Smethurst) Carter, 66, of Whitinsville, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006, at her home.
She was the wife of Dennis Carter, who was her companion and soulmate.
Mrs. Carter was a founding member of the First Assembly of God Church, Lincoln Street, Worcester, and she brought many people to the Lord.
Besides her husband, she leaves four sons, David B. Phelan and his wife, Donna, of Spencer, James M. Phelan and his fiancee, Barbara Dusoe, of Whitinsville, Stephen A. Phelan of Spencer and Thomas S. Phelan and his fiancee, Angela Williams, of Oxford; a brother, Robert B. Smethurst of Seville, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Her closest friend of 40 years was Margaret "Peggy" Prefontaine, died recently.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 14, at 10 a.m., in the First Congregational Church of Milford, 4 Congress St., Milford.
Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Glenallen Street, Winchendon.

Norman I. Rogers
MENDON -- Norman I. Rogers, 92, of Mendon, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006, in the Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center, Northbridge.
He was the husband of the Dorothy E. (Brown) Rogers, who died in 2002.
Calling hours will be Friday, Oct. 13, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Buma Sargeant Funeral Home (bumafuneralhome.com), 42 Congress St., Milford.

Bonnie R. Mayer
BELLINGHAM -- Bonnie R. (Buckley) Mayer, 53, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006, at Milford Regional Medical Center, Milford.
She was the wife of Warren C. Mayer.
Born in Newton, she was the daughter of Dorothy J. (Parmenter) Buckley of Stoughton and the late William H. Buckley. A resident of Bellingham for 18 years, she was formerly of Natick and was raised in Wellesley. She was a 1971 graduate of Wellesley High School and continued her education at Northeastern University in Boston.
She worked as a teacher and coach for private gymnastics schools, most recently at Bellingham High School and Ashland Gymnastics School, and private schools in the Boston area.
She lived for her daughters, husband and family and loved working with her students in gymnastics and cheerleading.
Besides her husband and mother, she leaves her daughters, Lindsay B. and Caitlyn C. Mayer of Bellingham; sisters, Donna J. Francis of Stoughton and Cynthia C. Catani of Plymouth; and nieces, nephews and a great-nephew.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, Oct. 14, at 11 a.m., at Cartier’s Funeral Home, 151 South Main St., Rte. 126, Bellingham.
Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Mechanic Street, Rte. 140.
Calling hours will be Friday, Oct. 13, from 5 to 8 p.m.

Richard E. Mason Sr.
FRANKLIN -- Richard Eddy Mason Sr., 79, of Franklin died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006, of lung cancer, at his home.
He was the husband of Esther Eva (Scott) Mason of Bellingham for 57 years. They were married in 1949.
He was born in Newport, New Hampshire in the 1970s. By the 1980s, they were back in Maine. They eventually returned to the Milford area.
Mr. Mason joined the U.S. Navy in July 1945, and was a World War II veteran.
He founded Remco Aluminum Co. in Milford in the 1960s, and remained in the siding and construction business until he retired in the early 1990s.
He was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed traveling.
Besides his wife, he leaves nine children, Shirley A. (Mason) Giuliano of Milford, Richard E. Mason Jr. of Sebago, Maine, Tammy E. Mason of Milford, Dean R. Mason of Milford, Jacqueline C. (Mason) Ayotte of Hopedale, Janet C. (Mason) AlEid of Grafton and Jeffrey C. Mason of Northbridge, and their spouses; 18 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was also the father of the late Roberta A. Mason, formerly of Milford.
A military honors ceremony and a religious service followed by a celebration of his life with family and friends will be held Saturday, Oct. 14 at 1 p.m. at the American Legion Post, 118 Church Ave., Northbridge.
Mary V. (Harrall) Usher
MILFORD -- The funeral service of Mary V. (Harrall) Usher was held Monday, Oct. 9, 2006, from the Buma-Sargeant Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of the Resurrection in St. Mary Church of Milford, celebrated by the Rev. Michael G. Foley, pastor.
The acolytes during the service were Harold and Joan Getz.
Sister Theresa Lucier assisted at the altar.
The organist was Robert Blake and the cantors were Donna Horrigan, Sandra Piwko and Julia Wenck. Family soloists were Karl and Laura Usher and family violinists were Gawain Usher and Estlin Usher.
Readings were offered by Irene Cowern and Karl Usher.
Gifts were presented by Caroline Usher, Grace Usher and Katherine Usher.
Casket bearers were Richard Cowern, Edward Cowern, Gawain Usher, Estlin Usher, Winston Chase, Scott Barnet and John Stockwell.
Burial followed in the Evergreen Cemetery, Woodville, where the Rev. Foley offered committal prayers.
Mrs. Usher, 96, of Colchester, Vt., formerly of Milford, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, in Vermont.
Bernadette Frances Sooley
HOPEDALE -- The funeral service for Bernadette Frances Sooley was held Monday, Oct. 9, 2006, from the Buma-Sargeant Funeral Home in Milford, followed by a service at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Milford, officiated by the Rev. Thomas Chase.
The organist was Donna McIntyre, and the soloist was Maryann Sage.
Readings were offered by Rebecca Grillo, Nicholas Mulherin, Deborah Robbins and Mariam Loiselle.
Casket bearers were Anthony Gonsalves, Kevin Antonuccio, John Guglielmi, Paul Miller, James Loiselle and Thomas Mulherin.
Burial followed in the Hopedale Village Cemetery, where the Rev. Chase offered committal prayers.
Ms. Sooley, 63, of Hopedale, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, at her home.
