Earl G. Joslin; Owned Saw Mill
GREENFIELD - Earl G. Joslin, 87, of 29 Summer St., died Sunday, April 9, 2000 in the Buckley Nursing Home, Greenfield, after a long illness.
He was born in Holyoke, Oct. 14, 1912 the son of George N. and Mae (Frazier) Joslin.
He attended Smith Vocational School.
He was a sawyer for many years retiring in 1982, having owned and operated a portable saw mill.
He also sharpened saws and enjoyed woodworking and reading.
He leaves his wife of 63 years the former Rose E. Hescock; one son, Earl R. Joslin of Warwick; four daughters, Evelyn "Evie" Dresser of Northfield, Vivian Lee of Athol, Carol Smith of McConnellsburg, Pa, and Gloria Kahle of Feeding Hills; seven grandchildren, three great - grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 13, at 11 a.m. at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal St., Greenfield, with the Rev. Lloyd Parrill officiating.
Burial will be private at Federal St. Cemetery.

Dale W. Watts; Avid Writer
Dale W. Watts, 40, of 75 Farnsworth Ave., died suddenly at home on Saturday, April 8, 2000.
He leaves his parents, Donald W. and Sandra L. (Beaman) Watts of Athol; three sisters, Diane O. Watts of Walton, Massachusetts Audubon Society, State Headquarters, South Great Road, Lincoln, Mass. 01773.
Calvin L. Tandy
TEMPLETON - Calvin L. Tandy, 78, of 99 Bridge St., Baldwinville, died Friday, April 7, 2000 at his residence after an illness.
He was a draftsman and cabinet maker for the L.S. Starrett Company for several years until his retirement last year.
Memorial donations may be made to N.H., Kenneth O. Bowers of Athol; two daughters, Delene Chappel of Orange, and Jeannine Quader of Athol; a brother, Cedar Vorce of Orange; 17 grandchildren; 43 great - grandchildren and two great - great - grandchildren. A son, James Bowers, died in 1963.
She was a baby sitter for several area families for many years until her retirement. She had previously worked at the Orange Pants Shop, Erving Tea Room, Ersey Shoe Shop, McElwain Shoe Shop, and for Vorces Cab Co., with her brothers, Arthur, and Cedar Vorce.
She was an active member of the First Assembly of God Church in Orange, serving with the women's ministries for the past 22 years, and working on any committee or church event she could for many years.
She loved listening to gospel music and cooking for her family and many friends.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 15, at 11 a.m., in the First Assembly of God Church in Orange, with Pastor Frank Visco officiating.
Burial will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery.
There are no calling hours and the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the First Assembly of God Church, "Building Fund" 349 South Main St., Orange, Mass. 01364.

George A. Peters, Owned Peters Dairy
George A. Peters, 85, of 105 Simonds St., died Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at his home.
He was born June 14, 1914, in Danville, Quebec, Canada, the son of Robert J. and Alice F. (Philbrick) Peters. He lived in Gill for many years and since 1967 had resided in Athol.
He leaves his wife of 29 years, Virginia (McIntosh) Peters; three sons, Gary Peters of South Deerfield, Dennis Peters of Heath, Lawrence Peters of Colstrip, Mont.; two daughters, Laurie Naprovnik of Dearborn, MO, Debra Peters of East Hampton; a step - daughter, MaryAnn Brill of Kingman, Ariz.; eight grandchildren and three step - grandchildren.
He graduated from Greenfield High School in 1932, owned and operated Peters Dairy in Gill for many years. After moving to Athol he worked at the Peterson's Dairy for three years and at the L.S. Starrett Co. for 12 years until his retirement. He was a member of the Athol - Orange Lodge of Elks No. 1837.
Memorial services will be held Friday, April 7 at 3 p.m., in the Higgins - O'Connor Funeral Home, with the Rev. Fr. A. Milton Cheney, III, rector of St. John's Episcopal Church, officiating.
There are no calling hours and private burial will be in Silver Lake Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. John's Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, 15 Park Ave., or Athol Memorial Hospital "Save our Hospital" 2033 Main St., both in Athol, Mass. 01331.
Robert M. Borg; Chemical Co. President
PETERSHAM - Robert M. Borg, 89, of Ossipee, New York State College of Forestry at Syracuse and worked for several years at the Harvard Forest in Petersham, the same town in which he courted and later married his late wife of 58 years, the former Lillian H. Pilling, of Athol.
He worked as an assistant forester under the Civilian Conservation Corp., a technical forester for the United States Forest Service and was supervisor of Wildlife Management for the state of N.Y.; Robert and Anne Borg and their sons, Seth and Austin Borg, all of Suffield.
A memorial service will be held at the Granby Pentecostal Tabernacle (The Life Church), 23 Griffin Rd., Granby, Sunday, April 9 at 1:30 p.m.
The family will greet friends prior to the service beginning at 1 p.m. at the church.
At 6 p.m. a service will be conducted by the Star - Athol Masonic Lodge at the Silver Lake Cemetery in Athol.

Dorothy Paton; Red Cross Volunteer
CENTERVILLE - Dorothy (Allen) Paton died Saturday, March 4, 2000 at the Cape Regency Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Centerville after a long illness.
She was predeceased by her husband, Andrew Paton.
She was born and raised in Amherst, Nova Scotia. She was a graduate of Walpole High School in 1939. After high school she met and married Mr. Paton, and they traveled worldwide with the United States Air Force.
She was an active volunteer and volunteered worldwide for the American Red Cross, and the March of Dimes. She was an original "candy striper" during World War II and the Korean Conflict.
While at Cape Cod she was active in the First Congregational Church in Yarmouth and worked with the handicapped as part of the Yarmouth Swim Camp.
She was an avid camper and outdoors person. She and her family camped in the Western United States and Europe.
Among her survivors are two sons, David A. Paton of Yarmouth, and Andrew G. Paton of Orange; a granddaughter, Siiri L. Paton of Athol; and many nieces and nephews.
A visiting hour will be held at the First Congregational Church, 329 Main St., Yarmouthport from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 11, with a service at 1 p.m.
Burial will be in Ancient Cemetery, Yarmouth.
