Leon E. Lemon, Pianist, Engineer
HOPEDALE - Leon E. Lemon, 91, of Progress Street, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001 in the Upton Nursing Center in Upton. He was the husband of Phyllis I. (Bagley) Lemon who died in 1999.
He had been employed by the former Draper Corporation of Hopedale as a time study engineer for 45 years prior to his retirement in 1972. He was also a well known pianist throughout the Milford area.
A lifelong Hopedale resident, he was born June 21, 1910 in Hopedale, the son of Raymond and Susan (Norton) Lemon. He graduated from Hopedale High School and went on to attend drafting school.
He was a lifelong member of the Hopedale Unitarian Parish, a member of the Milford Musicians Union and a member of the former Milford Odd Fellows.
Lemon is survived by one son, Robert I. and his wife Ina L. Lemon of Shrewsbury; a daughter - in - law, Marie Lemon of Germantown, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, eight great - grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sons, David E. Lemon of Germantown in 1998 and Leon E. Lemon Jr. of Topeka, Kansas in 1991, and three brothers, George and Charles Lemon, both of Hopedale, and Stephen Lemon, of Athol.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Sept. 21 at 10 a.m. in the Buma - Sargeant Funeral Home, 42 Congress St., Milford, with the Rev. Richard F. Drinon, pastor of the Hopedale Unitarian Parish, officiating.
There will be no public calling hours.
Interment will follow in the Vernon Grove Cemetery, Milford.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Gardner for several years, the L.S. Starrett Co. in Athol for 15 years and for D and R Productions Company in Framingham for six years until his retirement.
He was a United States Navy veteran during the Korean Conflict.
He was formerly a member of the Athol - Orange Lodge of Elks 1837, and the Tully City Council Club. He served on the conservation commission for the town of Athol for several years.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, reading and spending time at his summer cottage.
He leaves his wife of 47 years Blanche L. (Euvrard) Sheffield; three sons, Robert A. Sheffield of Warwick, Steven W. Sheffield of Athol, and Todd R. Sheffield of Northampton; a sister, Frances Simpson of Denver, Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to the ALS Association Mass. Chapter 7, Lincoln Street, Wakefield, Mass. 01880 or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 495 Old Florida in 1955. She was a homemaker and a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Ormond Beach, Fla.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Peter of Deland; two sons, Donald of Lake Helen, Fla., and Barry of St. Augustine, Fla.; three grandchildren, six great - grandchildren and one great - great - grandchild.
The funeral was held Saturday, Sept. 15, at the Volusia Memorial Funeral Home in Ormond Beach.
Thomas P. O'Donnell
BARRE - Thomas P. O'Donnell, 77, of 1009 Wallwinet Rd., died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001 in the Wachisett Manor Nursing Home in Gardner.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Besides his wife of 48 years, Stella (Shepardson) O'Donnell, he leaves a daughter, Dorothy Dorow, and a brother, Robert O'Donnell, both of Orange.
Roselyn P. Miller, Volunteer Treasurer
Roselyn P. (Regis) Miller, 86, of 1847 Petersham Rd., a long - time resident, died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2001, in the Quabbin Valley Healthcare.
She leaves a daughter, Patricia Peters and her husband James of Moscow, Penn.; four sons, John and his wife Ruthann of Naples, Fla., Michael and his wife Dianne of Athol; James and his wife Karen of Billerica; Glenn and his wife Pam of Pittsfield; a sister, Regina Howard and her husband Guy of Winchester, N.H., Louis Regis of Athol, Clovis (Ted) Regis of Sanford, N.H. on July 13, 1915, the daughter of John D. and Bessie (Haddock) Regis. She grew up in Farmington and graduated from high school there.
She spent most of her adult life in Athol and was a communicant of Our Lady Immaculate Church. She was past treasurer of the local chapter of AARP and a past member of the Athol Golden Agers. She volunteered at the Athol Memorial Hospital Gift Shop. Her interests included gardening, card playing, and line dancing.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Sept. 17 from the Fiske Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady Immaculate Church.
Burial will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, Sept. 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Athol Memorial Hospital, 2033 Main St., Athol, MA 01331.
Chace Services
Memorial services for Robert E. Chace Jr., 51, of 6 Leonard St., were held Thursday, Sept. 13, at the First Congregational Church in Royalston with the Rev. Dr. Virginia E. Asel, pastor, officiating. The organist and soloist was Wayne Newton. Private burial will be in Silver Lake Cemetery at a later date.
