Valerie A. Ledger
HUBBARDSTON - Valerie A. (Lawrence) Ledger, 48, of 19 Abenaki St., died Sunday December 26 from injuries received in an automobile accident in Leominster.
She leaves two daughters, Sarah L. Ledger of Hubbardston and Jessica A. Ledger of Kalamazoo, N.H.
Born in Athol, Feb. 17, 1907, a son of Edwin T. and Ida (Thompson) Matthews, he grew up in Warwick, attended Warwick schools and lived in Warwick and Orange all of his life.
Strong and well conditioned he took up boxing and fought in several area matches during the 1920's.
He was an enthusiastic outdoorsman who enjoyed working in the forest, cutting wood, bicycling, hiking and fishing. A conservation worker 26 years for the Commonwealth of N.H.; a sister, Esther Lincoln of Warwick; 17 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; many nephews and nieces.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 22 at 11 a.m. in Witty's Funeral Home, www.wittyfuneralhome.com. Rev. Vance E. Frank will officiate.
Burial will be in the late spring at Center Cemetery, Warwick.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.

Sophie Czubryt; Enjoyed Traveling
Athol - Sophie (Kwasnicki) Czubryt, 85, of 123 Thrower Rd. died Monday, March 10, 2003 at her home.
She was born in Savoy, March 15, 1917, the daughter of Fred and Mary (Story) Kwasnicki. She had lived in Savoy and Adams for many years and since 1961 has resided in Athol.
She had worked in the Adams area for many years, was an active member of the Athol Congregation of Jehovah Witnesses, enjoyed sewing, gardening and traveling with her husband.
Her husband of 63 years Joseph S. Czubryt, died Feb. 11, 2003.
She leaves a niece Julia Mendel of Adams, and several other nieces, nephews and cousins in Adams.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 29, at 2 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses, 183 Daniel Shays Hwy.
Higgins - O'Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main St., Athol, is directing arrangements.

ORANGE - Funeral services were held Friday, March 14, at Witty's Funeral Home, for Cecelia A. (Plummer) Dike, 71, of 13 Shelter St., who died at UMass Memorial Healthcare, Memorial Campus, Worcester, on March 8. Pastor Stephanie Sermuksnis of he Orange United Methodist Church, officiated. Interment followed in South Cemetery.
The pallbearers were Michael York, Mark York, Martin Malinowski and Maine - Frances A. Ames, 79, wife of the late Forest W. Ames Sr. formerly of Athol, passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2003 at a Machias hospital.
She was born May 17, 1923 in Holyoke, Mass., the daughter of Robert Wilhelm and Audrey Herr.
She was employed at the former Union Twist Drill Co., and then at L.S. Starrett Co., both of Athol. She retired in 1960, to raise her family. While residing in Athol, she was active in the 4H Club, PVHA, conservation commission, serving as chairman for a number of years. She enjoyed her animals and gardening.
She is survived by her children, Sandra King of Athol, Forest W. Ames Jr. of Lubec, Maine, George George of Machias, Maine.

PETERSHAM - Robert B. Reid Jr., 89, of 57 Old Barre Rd., died on Monday, March 10, 2003 at the St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester.
Born in Petersham, he was the son of Robert B. and Catherine (Connolly) Reid Sr. He owned and operated the R.B. Reid Bus Company for many years.
He was a member of the National School Bus Association and the Massachusetts, 484 Main St., Worcester, MA 10608 - 1817, or the United Cerebral Palsy, 1660 L Street NW #700, Washington, D.C. 20036.

Kenneth M. Harwood
WARWICK - Kenneth M. Harwood, 60, of 73 Hastings Pond Rd., died on Saturday, March 8, 2003 at home of cancer.
He retired as superintendent of the Warwick Highway Department in the summer of 2001 due to ill health.
