ORANGE - Steven Harry Temple, 57, of 25 High St., died on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002 at his home of cancer. The support from his family, friends and hospice all helped him to pass to another life with the courage and dignity he deserved.
He was born in Orange on May 2, 1945, a son of Harry and Dorothy (Stevens) Temple. He grew up in Athol and attended New Salem Academy.
He owned and operated Steve's Auto Repair for 30 years on East Main Street, closing only when he became too ill to work earlier this year.
He was active in the Orange Historical Society and was a 15 - year member of the Family Year, a genealogical society.
An antique car enthusiast, he owned a Model T Ford with his mother - in - law, Arleen Wilson, and worked on the Historical Society's Grout automobile.
He enjoyed his grandchildren and traveling to historic sites.
He leaves his wife of 38 years, Linda Jane (Rivers) Temple; his mother - in - law, who has been there for him throughout this illness, Arleen Wilson of Tully; his parents, Harry and Dorothy Temple of Orange; a son, Joseph Temple of Orange; three daughters, Lisa Karichko and husband Robert of Port St. John, Fla., Diane Panzarello and husband Mark of Cocoa, Fla., and Debra Boyer and husband, Nicholas of Athol. A sister, Linda Clark and husband, Douglas of Orange; nine grandchildren, Randall Sevene, Marie Sevene of Cocoa, Fla., Brian Boyer, Nicholas Boyer and Amber Boyer of Athol, Jessica Temple of Turners Falls, Shawn Karichko, Tiffany Karichko and Kristin Karichko of Port St. John, Fla.
At his request, after cremation, burial will be in the spring at the family's discretion in Tully Cemetery.
There are no calling hours.

Maurice H. Dale

ERVING - Maurice H. Dale, 73, of 79 High St., died on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002 in the Athol Memorial Hospital, Athol.
Born in Greenfield on May 27, 1929, a son of Edwin H. and Alice D. (Lemire) Dale, he graduated from Orange High School in 1948 and lived in Erving most of his life.
He served with the United States Air Force at Nellis Air Force Base, Las Vegas, Nev. from 1950 until his discharge in 1954.
A driver for the Chapin Sadler Bus Company in Montague, prior to his retirement, he previously had been employed as a driver for the Wilson Bus Lines, Templeton.
He formerly owned and operated Dale's Television and Radio Shop on East Main Street in Orange for several years.
He was a life member of the American Legion Post 172, the Wheelerville Community Club and the Athol Orange Lodge of Elks, all in Orange.
He leaves his wife of 50 years, Eleanor M. (Racie) Dale; a son, Christopher H. Dale of Erving; two daughters, Linda L. Dale of Naples, Fla. and Cynthia S. Dale of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; a brother, Robert Dale of Norway, Indianapolis, Ind.; two grandchildren, Jeremy J. Brown of Royalston and Jessica J. Brown of Providence, R.I.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 11 a.m. in Witty's Funeral Home, 158 South Main St., Orange.
A private burial will follow in the Erving Center Cemetery.
There will be a calling hour Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m.
Ruth C. Dexter
Active Member Of The Community
ORANGE - Ruth C. (Anderson) Dexter, 87, of 10 Sunset Terrace, died on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002 in the Athol Memorial Hospital.
Born in West Connecticut in the 1920s when her father became pastor of the Mission Covenant Church.
A graduate of Orange High School in 1933, she was a director and clerk of the Leavitt Machine Company.
She was a member of the First Universalist Church and enjoyed many active years as a member of the Marion E. Nason Unity Club.
A former member of the Orange Women's Club and Garden Club, she liked music, played piano and was a member of the Anderson Family Quartet.
She enjoyed traveling and camping with her husband, was an enthusiastic reader who was skilled at crossword puzzles and handicrafts.
Her husband of 51 years, Frederick A. Dexter, died in 1988 and a son, Timothy A. Dexter, died in 1990.
She leaves three daughters, Judith Hoag of Greensboro, N.C., Susan Proctor of Towson, Md., and Linda Schmid of Bainbridge Island, Wash.; a brother, Carl Anderson of Bethesda, Md.; and many wonderful close neighbors and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 2 p.m. in the Witty's Funeral Home. The Rev. Ralph T. Clarke of the First Universalist Church of Orange will officiate.
Interment will follow in the Central Cemetery.
There will be a calling hour from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday prior to the service.

Ruth C. Horrigan
ATHOL - Ruth C. (Carey) Horrigan, 99, formerly of 35 High St., Athol died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002, in the Quabbin Valley Healthcare. Funeral arrangements under the direction of Fiske Funeral Home are incomplete.
Elizabeth P. Harris Grange Member
BALDWINVILLE - Elizabeth P. (Lawrence) Harris, 82, of 51 Hospital Rd., died Monday, Nov. 18, 2002 at the Athol Memorial Hospital, Athol.
She was born in Hartford, Conn., on Sept. 9, 1920, the daughter of Rodney W. and Pauline (Rogstad) Lawrence. She grew up in Winchendon and graduated from the Winchendon High School.
She had lived in Fitchburg for several years moving to Athol in 1952 where she lived until 1980. She then moved to Orange for several years returning to Winchendon in 1990 and for the past four years had resided in Baldwinville.
She worked for the Simon Saw and Steel Company for five years during World War II, and the McElwain Shoe Shop in Athol for several years. She was a member of the Winchendon Grange, and the Winchendon Congregational Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family, bowling, was an avid card player, and especially liked to play pinochle.
Her husband of 29 years, Roland J. Harris, died in 1981. She leaves a son; David J. Harris and his wife Cindy of Orange; a son - in - law, Richard DeWolf of Greenland, Maine, Shaun DeWolf of So. Berwick, Maine, Jaycee and Nathan DeWolf, both of So. Berwick, Sherman) Fontaine, 69, of 114 Thrower Rd., formerly of Barre, died on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002 at the Worcester Medical Center, Lake Avenue.
She was born in Lewiston, Sherman. She lived in Barre before moving to Athol 23 years ago. She was a member of the Fitzwilliam Sportsman Club and enjoyed camping and the outdoors.
She leaves her husband of 15 years, Arthur H. Fontaine of Athol; five sons, Gary Ricker and Guy Ricker, both of Worcester, George Ricker Jr., of Barre, Scott Ricker of Southwick and Michael Lucas of Hawaii; two daughters, Louann Rogowski of South Barre and Lisa Mascroft of Barre; 18 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A son, Martin Ricker of Barre and a daughter, Ruth Franciosa of Worcester predeceased her.
There are no calling hours.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, Nov. 21 at 10:30 a.m. in the Rural Glen Cemetery in Hubbardston.
The Pillsbury Funeral Home, 96 South Barre Rd., is directing the arrangements.
Peters Services
ATHOL - Funeral services for A. Virginia (McIntosh) Peters, 81, formerly of Simonds and Main streets were held on Friday, Nov. 15, 2002, at the Higgins - O'Connor Funeral Home, with the Rev. Fr. A. Milton Cheney, III, rector of St. John's Episcopal Church officiating. The organist was Janet Paoletti.
Burial followed in Silver Lake Cemetery and the bearers were; Gary Peters, Dennis Peters, Timothy Peters, Don McCurda and Brian Metivier.
