ORANGE - David Alphonzo Brightwell, 38, of 42 Fountain St., and formerly of 23 Reed St., Springfield, died on Sunday morning, Nov. 10, 2002 at the Athol Memorial Hospital after being stricken earlier at home.
Born in Springfield on Jan. 8, 1964, he was a son of Samuel and Rosa (Marshall) Brightwell and grew up in Springfield, graduating from the Springfield Technical High School in 1982.
While in high school, he was on the Technical High School's wrestling team.
Employed by the Lake Grove School in Wendell the past five years, he previously worked at the Children's Study Home in Springfield 12 years. While in Springfield, he was a member of the Mount Calvary Baptist Church.
A recent resident of Orange, he enjoyed breeding American Bulldogs and Rottwilers and was an avid football fan as well as playing semi - pro with the "Massachusetts Society For The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, 53 Bliss St., Springfield, MA 01105.
Georgia L. (Collins) Moon, 56, of 143 Boutelle St., died on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002 in St. Vincent's Hospital at the Worcester Medical Center in Worcester after a short illness.
Adams Services
ATHOL - Memorial services for Marian (Bullard) Adams, 88, of 130 Barrett Ave., were held on Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at the Athol - Orange Baptist Church, with Pastor Mark D. Bariloni officiating. The pianist was Janet Kraft and special music was performed by the Peterson family.
Burial followed in Silver Lake Cemetery and the Higgins - O'Connor Funeral Home directed arrangements.
Daniel L. Price
Marine, Retiree
ATHOL - Daniel L. Price, 71, of 55 Twichell S., died on Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002 at the Athol Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Long Beach, Gardner Ten Pins Bowling and worked for the L.S. Starrett Company in Athol for 22 years until his retirement in 1996.
He had previously competed in several bowling leagues, was a member of the North Quabbin Computer Group, and he enjoyed teaching a computer class to senior citizens. He enjoyed traveling, spending time with his family and grandchildren.
He leaves his wife of 44 years, Gloria M. (Flagg) Price; three sons, Kevin Price of Orange, David Price of Athol, Steven Price of Fitchburg; a daughter, Sandra Mallet of Warwick; his mother, Ruth P. Bales of Long Beach, Calif. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Price.
Graveside services will be Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 11 a.m. in the Highland Cemetery, with pastor Mark D. Bariloni of the Athol Orange Baptist Church officiating.
There are no calling hours and in lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the Cancer Fund of America, Inc., 2901 Breezewood Lane, Knoxville, TN. 37921 - 1099, or the Scleroderma Foundation, 12 Kent Way, Suite 101, Byfield, MA 01922 - 1221, or a charity of the donor's choice.

Calder Services
ATHOL - A funeral service was held on Friday, Nov. 8, 2002 at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Orange for James R. Calder, 67, of 739 Daniel Shays Hwy., who died on Nov. 4, 2002 at St. Vincent's Hospital - Worcester Medical Center following an illness.
The Rev. Andrea Hoslett, pastor of the Bethany Lutheran Church, officiated, assisted by the Rev. Kenneth Bean. Readings were offered by the Rev. John Vannorsdall, pastor Brian Tammany, and Rev. Kenneth Bean. Steve Adam was the acolyte and crucifer. Deborah Kent was the organist and Marilyn Reiman was the trumpeter. The soloist was Richard Hall singing "The Last Mile of the Way."
Interment followed in the Silver Lake Cemetery. Pallbearers were Robert Saddlemire, Daniel Claydon, William Care, Richard Hall, Willard Chiasson, Bruce Jones and Jonathan Cole. John W. "Spider" Smith, department surgeon of the American Legion, presented the American Flag to Mr. Calder's wife, Arlene.
A reception was held in the Fellowship Hall of the Bethany Lutheran Church.

Ruth Diener
ST. PETERSBURG, FLA. - Ruth "Jane" Crowell Diener, 72, of the Lake Rich Village Community, and 92 Montague St., Turners Falls, Mass., died on Friday, Nov. 8, 2002 in the Franklin Medical Center, Greenfield, Mass., following a period of failing health.
Howard R. Taft
Vet Paper Mill Retiree
TEMPLETON - Howard R. Taft, husband of Reatha M. (Nalwalker), died on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002 in his home in Templeton after a period of failing health.
He was born in Phillipston, son of the late John C. and Hattie (Leard) Taft and had resided in Templeton the past 11 years, coming from Baldwinville.
He grew up in Otter River and was a graduate of Templeton High. He served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Sibley in World War II in the Pacific Campaign.
He retired from the Erving Paper Mill after 43 years and was in the Baldwinville Product Division. He enjoyed carpentry, hunting and fishing, camping and visiting the ocean.
Mr. Taft, in addition to his wife, is survived by two sons, Howard Taft Jr., David Taft of East Templeton; a daughter, Cynthia Nicholson of Templeton and two grandchildren, Kristopher Caissy and Courtney Nicholson, both of Templeton.
Following cremation, services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Interment of ashes will take place in the family lot in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Baldwinville.
Southshore Cremation Services, 238 Court St., Brockton, is in charge of arrangements.

ATHOL - Funeral services for Edna L. (Bennett) Duguay, 92, of 1596 Old Keene Rd., were held on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002 in the Fiske Funeral Home. Deacon James L. Linderman officiated.
Burial was in Calvary Cemetery. The bearers were Robert Hughes, Jim Chenausky, Jim Hayes, Byron Atwood, Stephen Atwood and Shawn Richard.
Winifred P. Gormley

ATHOL - Winifred P. (MacDonald) "Winnie" Gormley, 83, of 462 Twitchell St., died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002 in the Athol Memorial Hospital, following an illness.
Her husband of 36 years, Earl F. "Skip" Gormley, died in 1976. She leaves a son, Donald R. Gormley and his wife, Janice K. Gormley of Huntington; two grandchildren, Michael W. Gormley, and his wife Meghean, of San Diego, New York City; two sisters, Cynthia Trinque of Bridgewater and Marguerite Donnelly of Fitchburg ; a brother, James Stewart Jr. of Orange; a sister - in - law, Betty MacDonald of Athol; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Howard MacDonald and Roger MacDonald, and a sister, Dorothy Stone.
She was born in Athol, daughter of Thomas and Esther (Jardine) MacDonald, and was a lifelong resident of town
She graduated from the Athol High School with the class of 1936. She worked for the L. S. Starrett Company for 33 years, retiring in 1984 as a supervisor in the indicator room. Previously she worked for the J. F. MacElwain Shoe Company in Athol and the Orange Shoe Shop.
She was a member of the Starrett Memorial United Methodist Church, and at one time was an advisor for the Tri - Hi - Y girls' group. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, and was an avid reader.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 10 a.m. in the J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home. Rev. Dr. R. Lee Smith, pastor of Starrett Memorial United Methodist Church will officiate.
Burial will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery.
Calling hours in the funeral home are from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Monday, Nov. 11.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Athol Memorial Hospital, 2033 Main St., Athol, 01331.

WARWICK - Graveside services were held on Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002 in the Warwick Center Cemetery for Hollis H. "Punk" Hubbard, 83, of 718 Orange Rd., who died on Monday, Nov. 4, 2002 at home after being stricken ill.
The Rev Dan Dibble officiated. The American Flag was presented to Punk's wife, Charlotte, by Paul O. Hadsel Sr., veteran of World War II. "Taps" was played by Adam Whitten and Dick Tandy.
A reception followed at the Warwick Town Hall.

ORANGE - Funeral services, with military honors, were held Friday, Nov. 8, 2002 for F. Wesley Padula, 76, of 865 North Main St., in the J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home, Athol. Rev. Dr. James L. Linderman, deacon of Our Lady Immaculate Church, officiated.
Burial was in Silver Lake Cemetery, Athol. Bearers were Daniel Padula, Steven Wiley, Jay Ablaza, Erwin Tex Steiner, Theodore May, and William Valois. Representing the Edward H. Phillips Post 102, American Legion, were Robert Carey, past commander; Peter Krustapentus, adjutant; and Victor Litchfield, past finance officer. The United States flag was presented to Mrs. Ella Padula by Robert Carey.
The J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
