ORANGE - Jean H. (Carr) Packard, 79, of 108 Holt Rd., Ashburnham, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003 in the Wachusett Manor Nursing Home in N.H. She was a former member and past treasurer of the King James Association, a sports fan and skilled at knitting.
Her husband, Robert J. Walker, died in 1992.
She leaves two daughters, Brenda Cloukey of Royalston and Barbara Gamache of Athol; a sister, Elmina Lawrence of Winchendon; six grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; several nephews and nieces.
A brother, Joseph "Bennie" Duguay, died in 1993.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, Jan. 31 at 11 a.m. in Witty's Funeral Home. The Rev. Vance E. Frank will officiate. Burial will follow in South Cemetery.
There will be a calling hour from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday.
In lieu of flowers contributions are suggested to the Joslin Diabetes Foundation, Memorial Dept., 1 Joslin Place, Boston, 02215.
Arthur L. Ankarstran

PHILLIPSTON - Arthur L. Ankarstran, 80, of 75 Baldwin Hill Rd., died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at the Leo P. Lachance Center in Gardner.
He was born at home in Phillipston, on May 26, 1922, the son of John D. and Stella (Welch) Ankarstran. He attended schools in Phillipston and Athol. He had lived in Phillipston most of his life, also living in Athol several years, Key West, Fla. for three years and Phoenix, Ariz. for 12 years, returning to Phillipston in 1985.
He was a United States Army veteran of World War II, seeing much action while serving in France and Italy from 1942 to 1946.
During the depression he worked on the Tully and Barre dams. He was a lifetime member of the Roy Boyce V.F.W. Post 650 in Athol.
He owned and operated Art's Atlantic Station on Exchange Street for many years and the Athol Taxi for five years. While living in Key West he worked for Dunkin Dodge and Key West Ford and while living in Phoenix he worked for the city as a heavy truck mechanic for 12 years, retiring in 1985. He enjoyed collecting gems and rocks, and making all types of wood clocks using his gems and rocks.
He leaves his wife of over thirty years, Lois (Baker) Ankarstran; a step - son, Joseph Farrell, Jr. of Athol; a brother, John C. Ankarstran of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister, Shelma A. Rice of Orange, and several nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Eric B. Ankarstran and Edrick N. Ankarstran, predeceased him.
At Mr. Ankarstran's request, no funeral services or calling hours are planned.
The Higgins - O'Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main St., Athol, is directing arrangements.

GARDNER - Norman Paul Sabourin Sr., 76, of 230 Leo Dr., died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003 at his residence following an illness.
He was a World War II United States Navy veteran and received the World War II Victory Medal, American Area Ribbon and the European African Area Ribbon with one Star.

ORANGE - James W. Bitzer, 76, of West Plains, Mo. and formerly of Orange, died on Jan. 10, 2003.
He was born in Orange on Sept. 20, 1926, the son of Herbert D. and Amy E. (Brown) Bitzer.

ORANGE - A Memorial Mass was held on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003 in St. Mary's Church to celebrate the life of Brent L. Astrella, 36, of 90 Tully Rd., who died on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003 at the University of Massachusetts Memorial Healthcare, Worcester after a long battle with cystic fibrosis.
Born in Worcester on Oct. 2, 1966, the son of Richard F. and Donna M. (Chionchio) Astrella, he moved to this area in 1975.
A marketing manager at Allmerica Financial, Worcester, he had been employed there since 1993. Previously he had worked at Mars Bargainland, later Stuarts department stores, Athol, and Erving Paper Mills, Erving.
He graduated from the Pioneer Valley Regional School, Northfield in 1984 and the Greenfield Community College in 1986.
An enthusiastic motorcyclist, he enjoyed the outdoors, his family and friends.
He was a member of the Our Lady Immaculate Church, Athol.
He leaves his wife of 13 years, Sheryl D. (Mallet) Astrella; his parents, Richard and Donna Astrella of Warwick; a sister, Kim Schellhaas of Columbus, N.H.; three nieces, Sarah Schellhaas of columbus, N.H. and Brittany Zingle of Unity, Massachusetts Memorial Healthcare, 55 Lake Ave. North, Worcester, 01655.

ORANGE - A memorial service for George Strelin, 79, of 105 South Main St., who died Jan. 10, 2003 in Worcester, will be held Sunday, Jan. 26, at Noon in the Central Congregational Church, 93 South Main St. The Rev. Barbara Seamon, pastor, will officiate.
