ATHOL - A memorial service for Louise M. (Lund) Davenport, 86, of Port Richie, Fla. and formerly of Athol, who died on March 31, 2002 in her home after a long illness, will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery, Athol Road, Templeton at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 2.
She was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Harold E. Davenport.
She was born on Aug. 17, 1916, daughter of Leon W. and Clara M. (Valiton) Lund .
She leaves five daughters, Janice Todd, Sally Barton, and Gail Cratky, all of Port Richie, Lois Casey of N.H. 03110.
William R. Salem
Vietnam Veteran
ATHOL - William R. "Bill" Salem, 61, of 58 Earl Dr., died Thursday, July 24, 2003 in Athol Memorial Hospital following a short illness.
He was born in Gloucester on Nov. 22, 1941.
He was a supervisor, employed by Borden Chemical Co. of Leominster for 17 years until retiring in 1982. He was also employed as a maintenance worker by Apple Valley Continuing Care Center in Ayer for several years.
He was a 1960 graduate of Saxton Trade School of Leominster. He was an excellent craftsman and enjoyed woodworking.
Mr. Salem was a Vietnam War United States Navy veteran and served from 1960 to 1964.
He leaves his wife of 37 years, Jeanne P. (Charette) Salem of Fitchburg; two sons, Randy W. Salem of Fitchburg and Scott R. Salem of Gardner; three grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation at the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols St., Gardner, will be Friday, Aug. 1 from 7 to 9 p.m. Burial in Mass. State Veterans Cemetery, Winchendon, will be at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's local Veterans' Outreach Center.
Dexter F. Groves
Korean War Veteran
BOSTON - Dexter F. Groves, 69, a longtime Boston resident, died unexpectedly Friday, July 25, 2003 at his home.
He was born in Athol on April 7, 1934, the son of the late Earl W. and Gladys (Harrington) Groves. He received his education in the Athol school system.
An honorably discharged veteran, Mr. Groves served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War.
He is survived by a son and daughter - in - law Stephen H. Groves and his wife Lori of Tewksbury; two daughters and sons - in - law Lori Safford and her husband Michael of Windham, and Christine Higgins and her husband Steven of Wilmington; seven grandchildren, Corey, Ryan, Sarina, and Christopher Groves and Benjamin, Samuel, and Lydia Safford; a sister and brother - in - law Shirley Palsatt and her husband Jerry of Willingboro, N.J.; three nieces and nephews Susan Green, Lecia Palumba, and Michael Palsatt; and a good friend Donald Hastings of Holliston.
Friends may call at the Dracut Funeral Home, 2159 Lakeview Ave., Dracut, on Tuesday, July 29, from 4 until 7 p.m., followed by his funeral service at 7 p.m. in the funeral home. His graveside service will take place at the Royalston Cemetery, Royalston, on Wednesday, July 30, at a time to be announced in Tuesday's edition.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 360 Route 101, Bedford, Massachusetts Memorial Healthcare - Lake Ave. Campus, Worcester, after a long illness. His brother - in - law, George Eastman, conducted the order of service. Interment followed in South Cemetery.
The pallbearers were: Jimmy LaCroix, Darcy Merchant, Gerry Sault, Norman McGrath, Dwayne Beach, Danny Palulis, Bobby Wrigley, and Jeff Pallock. A reception was held at the family's business establishment, Mike's Place, where Tim had bartended.
Witty's Funeral Home, Orange, directed the arrangements.
Archie J. Fellows
GREENFIELD - Archie J. Fellows, 82, of 95 Laurel St. died Thursday at the Franklin Medical Center.
Born in Warwick on Sept. 22, 1920, he was a son of Archie J. and Ann (Brown) Fellows.
He attended school in New Salem. Living in East Hartford Ct. from 1965 until 1984. He was employed with he Pratt & Whitney Company, retiring in 1983. Prior to that he had been employed with the Torrington Needle Company for 19 years.
A decorated veteran of WWII, he served in the U.S. Army from 1942 - 1945. For a period of that time he was a prisoner of war.
On July 4, 1942, he married the former Garlda Streeter in the Unitarian Church in Warwick.
Mrs. Fellows died in 1997.
A member of the Masonic Lodge for many years, he was also a member of the Athol - Orange Elks Lodge Number 1837 for several years.
He enjoyed golfing, reading, gardening and traveling.
Survivors include three sons; Timothy R. Fellows of Hartford Ct., Allen J. and his wife Sandra Fellows of Orange and Gregory J. and his wife Monika of Manchester, CT; one daughter, Carol L. LaBelle and her husband David of Erving; four brothers, Oliver Fellows and Calvin Fellows, both of Warwick, Warren Fellows of Colrain and Theodore Fellows of Little Creek S.C.; Four sisters, June Matthews of Orange, Gloria DeGara of Athol, Ruby Spooner of Keene Leblanc officiating.
Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery in Millers Falls.
There will be a calling hour from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.

Harriet E. Wagnis
Retired Teacher
SALISBURY - Harriet E. Wagnis, 65, of 31 Dock Lane, Salisbury died suddenly on Tuesday while vacationing in Roxbury, ME. Born in Lewiston, Massachusetts Teachers' Association, and the National Education Association.
She initiated the recycling program in the Rockport Public Schools and served on the town's recycling committee for a number of years. Deeply appreciative of the magnitude of nature's beauty and fragility, throughout her life she remained committed to the protection of the environment and was active in local and regional recycling programs.
A longtime member of the East Parish United Methodist Church in Salisbury, she served as the Financial Secretary, Director of the Children's Band, and was an active participant in the Creative Arts Institute. She loved good music and was a talented pianist. Although she always believed God was 'in the sea,' the beauty of Taos captured her spiritually. She was an avid collector of Southwestern artifax and traveled to that area as often as she was able.
She is survived by her sister Joanna Wagnis DeVries, of Albuquerque, NM; her brother Frederick Wagnis, of South Portland, ME; three nieces; three nephews; many great - nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins, as well as her beloved extended family Stephanie Sermuksnis (pastor of the Orange and South Athol United Methodist Churches) and her children, Tony, Nick, and Savannah Sermuksnis, with whom she lived. She frequently attended worship service in this area and was a friend to many area residents.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 2, at the East Parish United Methodist Church, 8 Lafayette Road, Salisbury followed by a reception in the Rose Room of the church.
There will be no calling hours. Private family burial will be held at a later date.

Hause Services
Funeral services for Arline E. Hause, 89, of 375 Pequiog Ave., Athol were held Friday, July 25, 2003 in Our Lady Immaculate Church. Rev. Stephen D. Johnson and Deacon James Linderman celebrated the liturgy. The organist was Theresa Gabis. Burial was in Gethsemane Cemetery.
The bearers were Gary Sinclair, Paul Sinclair, James Sinclair, Larry Hause, Robert Hause and William Hause.
Fiske Funeral Home directed arrangements.
