Doris W. Maden
Retired Secretary
ATHOL - Doris W. (Warren) Maden, 95, formerly of 9 Shrine Ave., West Boylston and of Athol, died on Tuesday, July 8, 2003 at the Athol Memorial Hospital.
Her husband, Ronald W. Maden, died in 1978. She leaves two brothers, Homer L. Warren of Port Orange, Fla., and Gordon B. Crowe of Madera, Massachusetts, 1 Abbey Lane, Middleboro, MA 02346.

Brunelle Services
PETERSHAM - Funeral services for Kathryn Brunelle, 75, of 53 East St., were held on Tuesday, July 8, 2003 in St. Peters Church. The celebrant was Father Stephen D. Johnson. The organist was Theresa Gabis.
Burial was in Gethsemane Cemetery. The bearers were Dick Qualters, David Boeri, John Hyde, Dennis Killay, John Magnino and Michael Schlosser.
The Fiske Funeral Home directed arrangements.

William M. Turner
LANCASTER - William “Bill” Moran Turner, 64, of 793 George Hill Rd., formerly of Leominster and Fitchburg, died on Tuesday, July 8, 2003 in his home after a brief illness.

Marcus E. Smith
Simplex Time Retiree
ATHOL - Marcus E. Smith, 86, of 32 North Common Rd., Westminster, formerly of Athol, died Tuesday, July 8, 2003 in the Keystone Nursing Home, Leominster.
He was born in Montague on Feb. 13, 1917, the son of William and Grace M. (Webster) Smith. He grew up in Athol and was educated in Athol.
Mr. Smith was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Navy. He was involved in the invasion of France on D - Day. He worked at the N.D. Cass Toy Shop and the Ansin Shoe Company both in Athol for several years. He later worked for 30 years at Simplex Time Recorder and retired in 1980.
His wife of 41 years, Elizabeth (Dewitt) Smith who died in February 2001, predeceased him. He leaves two sons, Marcus Smith, Jr. of Westminster, Edson Smith of Clinton, CT; two daughters, Marcia Mattos of Winchendon, Vivian Vuerich of Erving; nine grandchildren; one great granddaughter and several nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be private.
There are no calling hours.
Donations may be made in his memory to the Athol Memorial Hospital 2033 Main St., Athol, MA 01331.
The Fiske Funeral Home, 1356 Main St., Athol, is directing arrangements.

Raymond M. Briggs
Insurance Agent
ATHOL - Raymond M. Briggs, 83, of 54 Holly In The Wood, Daytona Beach, Fla., and formerly of New Ipswich, New York Life Insurance for 30 years, retiring in 1987 to Daytona Beach. He was a Charter Life Underwriter, a member of the Halifax Covenant Church and a former volunteer for Hospice of Volusia/Flagler.
A memorial service will be held in the Halifax Covenant Church at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 10.
Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129.

Henry P. Doiron
Stove Co., Mill Worker
ORANGE - Henry P. Doiron, 93, formerly of Orange, died Tuesday morning, July 8, 2003 at the Worcester Skilled Nursing Home, Worcester, after an illness.
He was born and raised in Gardner, a son of David and Marguerite (Bourgue) Doiron and graduated from Florida.
Funeral services will be held from Witty's Funeral Home on Friday, July 11 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church.
Interment will follow in South Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, July 10 from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Friday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to going to church.
Donations are suggested to the Athol - Orange Elks Lodge 1837 Scholarship Fund, 92 New Athol Rd., Orange, MA 01364.

Robert H. Bailey
Veteran, Machinist
NEW SALEM - Robert H. Bailey, 73, of 531 Meeds Dr., Valley Center, Kansas, formerly of New Salem, died on Monday, July 7, 2003 at his home. He had a stroke two years ago and was trying to recover from a broken hip. He was born in Lynn on Aug. 15, 1929, and was the son of Leslie M. Bailey and Ruth (Galeucia) Bailey of New Salem.
He attended Athol schools and enlisted in the United States Army in October 1946. He served in the Quartermaster Corp in Fairbanks, Alaska. He was later employed by the J.F. McElwain Shoe company and then moved to North Adams to work at the Wall - Streeter Shoe Company.
Robert and his family moved to Kansas in 1973 where he learned to be a machinist. He retired in 1991.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved just walking country fields.
He leaves his wife of 49 years, Marilyn (Hunter) Bailey; a son, Kenneth Bailey, of Wichita, KS; two daughters, Diane Dillinger of Falcon, CO and Donna Richardson of Abilene, KS; five granddaughters and one grandson.
He was predeceased by a sister, Arline Gleason. He is survived by three brothers and two sisters, Leslie M. Bailey of Athol, Kenneth Bailey of Somersworth, NH, George Bailey of Ludlow, Caroline Hardy of Bradenton, FL, Mary Jane Leighton of Pittsburgh, PA and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are pending.

Roger J. Chouinard
Veteran, UMass Retiree
NEW SALEM - Roger J. Chouinard, 79, formerly of Elm Street, North New Salem, died Monday, July 7, 2003 in Mercy Hospital, Springfield.
Born in Moretown, VT, on Jan. 21, 1924, a son of Ernest and Diana (Masse) Chouinard, he was a United States Army veteran of World War II serving in the European Theatre.
He lived in New Salem 40 years where he had moved from Springfield. For the past two years he resided at the East Village Place of East Longmeadow.
He worked at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in the Department of Environmental, Health and Safety for 25 years until retiring in 1989. Previously he had worked at the Springfield Armory, Plich's Chicken Farm, Thompsonville, Conn. and worked at Skibisky Realty several years.
His hobbies included reading, hunting and especially fishing as well as helping out at the Swift River Historical Society in New Salem.
He leaves a brother, Herve Chouinard of Barre, VT.; four sisters, Ernestine Booth of East Longmeadow, Garielle Miles of Zephyrhills, FL., Edith Minch of Colchester, VT., and Lucille Wisniewski of Zephyrhills, FL; several nephews and nieces.
His wife, Carolyn L. (Hayden) Chouinard, died in 2000.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 12 from Witty's Funeral Home, 158 S. Main St., Orange with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m in St. Mary's Church, 19 Congress St., Orange.
Burial will follow in the North New Salem Cemetery.
There will be a calling hour from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home.

WORCESTER - Francisco Arce, 70, of 45 Mower St., died Tuesday, July 8, 2003 at home after a short illness.
