ATHOL - Linda M. (LaFountain) Brailey, 36, of 252 South St., died unexpectedly Thursday, June 26, 2003 in St. Vincent's Hospital at the Worcester Medical Center in Worcester.
She was born in Athol Jan. 8, 1967, daughter of Leonard J. and Roseanna M. (Foster) LaFountain, and lived here all of her life. Linda attended Athol High School and was a member of the Starrett Memorial Methodist Church.
She was a cook at several area restaurants, including the Brunch Box in Athol and the White Cloud Restaurant, 202 Restaurant and Norways Restaurant, all in Orange.
Besides her parents, with whom she lived, Linda is survived by three sons, Travis R. Brailey, Tyler J. Brailey and Thorne J. Brailey, all at home; her sister Marie L. Croteau and her husband Anthony of Athol; her paternal grandmother, Rita La Fountain of Athol, her longtime companion Paul A. Whitman of Athol and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service in the J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home, 137 Main St., on Monday, June 30, at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Silver Lake Cemetery. Visiting hours at the funeral home are from 6 - 8 p.m. Sunday.

Laughton Service
ORANGE - A graveside service for Edward F. Laughton, 83, formerly of Red Brook Village, who died June 21, 2003, at Harborside Applewood Healthcare, Winchester, Calif. and formerly of Athol, passed away on June 7, 2003, to be with her beloved husband, Louie, who passed away earlier this year.
She was born on Dec. 26, 1930 in Athol. She entered nursing school after high school and worked at the Mass General Hospital in Boston.
She met her husband at a New Year's Eve party in 1953, and they were married that same year in August. She never left her husband's side during their 49 years together.
Louie and Virginia, with five kids in tow, moved to southern Calif. She retired from nursing when the family relocated to Clovis in 1977.
She devoted much of her time to taking care of her grandchildren and volunteering at the Saint Agnes Hospital. She enjoyed needlepoint, painting and was a member of the Women's Guild at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.
Virginia is survived by her sons: Mark, Martin and his wife Denise of Clovis, and Maurice and his wife Lillian, all of Clovis, Matthew and his wife Cheryl of Tacoma, Wa.; her daughter, Marcia Husband and her husband Bob of Poway, Calif; her brother Thomas Landry and his wife Jill of Athol; her sister, JoAnn Landry Poncho and her husband Jerome of Lake Charles, La.; her half - brother Albert Landry and his wife Minnie of Laguna Hills, Ca.; her half - sisters, Leona O'Connor of Oakham, and Doris LaRocqaue of Spencer; her grandchildren, Dorothy Jean Ouellette, Alan and Emiley Ouellette, Ben, Andre and Zachery Ouellette; Stephanie, David and Melissa Husband; her step - grandchildren Anita, Linda, George and Victor Torrez; her great - granddaughter, Abigail Ouellette and her stepgreat - grandson, Herky Garcia.
A Rosary was held on June 20, followed by the memorial service June 21, both at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. Interment followed at the Clovis Cemetery.

Donald C. Crouse Sr.
MILLERS FALLS - Donald “Red” C. Crouse Sr., 74, of 21 Bridge St., died tuesday, June 24, 2003 at the Soldiers Home in Holyoke.
He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, attaining the rank of airman first class.

ATHOL - Funeral services for Alice J. (Shilko) Pierce, 91, formerly of 5 Raymond Pl., were held Tuesday, June 24, with a Mass at Our Lady Immaculate Church. Pastor Stephen Johnson officiated. Burial was in Gethsemane Cemetery. Bearers were Tommy Notartomaso, Ryan Marewich, Charles Petrowsky, and Edward Berry.
The J. Edward Murphy funeral Home directed arrangements.
Lorraine DiMarzio

ATHOL - Lorraine DiMarzio, 84, died Sunday, June 15, 2003 at the Oakwood Gardens Rest Home in DeLand, Fla.
Born in Readville, Mass. on Sept. 4, 1918, a daughter of Antonio and Dominica DiPietro (DiMarzio) Vitello, she graduated from the Athol High School Class of 1937.
She was employed at the L.S. Starrett company and worked in Springfield before moving to New York Savings Bank and moved to N.Y. on May 19, 1911, a daughter of Gorman and Myrtle (Osborn) Prince, she graduated from Cornell University as a classics scholar in 1932 and immediately found employment in Massachusetts PTA. She served as state president twice, and also as vice - president for legislation. She was a member of the board of directors at the time of her death, serving as parlimentarian and as school finance chairperson. Her commitment to education led to a doctoral degree from the University of Massachusetts in 1974, and a publication, "The Open Partnership: Equality in Running the Schools" (1976).
As a member of the Mahar School Committee for 10 years and chair of the building committee, she was a significant force in the realization of the Mahar Regional School.
A lover of the outdoors all her life, she raced a 210 sailboat in the 1950's and 1960's, and with her husband and children enjoyed many trips to the wilderness areas of North America. In her later years, she traveled to Asia as well as Europe. She was an active member of the Community Church of North Orange and Tully, singing in the choir and serving as treasurer.
She leaves a son Frederick Ryan of Bethlehem, Penn., and a daughter, Susan Oleksiw of Beverly; and two grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband in 1986, and sons Michael in 1995 and Barry in 2002.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 30, at 2 p.m. at the Community Church of North Orange and Tully with Rev. Lois Buchiane officiaiting.
Private burial will be in Jones Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, June 29 from 6 - 8 p.m. at Witty's Funeral Home.

Forster Services
SMYRNA, Del. - Funeral services were held at Witty's Funeral Home, Orange, MA, on Wednesday, June 25, 2003 for Hazel W. (Webb) Forster, 95, formerly of Rodney Street, Smyrna. Del., and Orange, with Pastor Stephanie Sermuksnis of the Orange and South Athol United Methodist Churches officiating.
Interment followed in South Cemetery, Orange. Pallbearers were Gary Marshall, James Wikel, and Don Ziminski.
Witty's Funeral Home of Orange directed the arrangements.
