ORANGE - Rita E. (Duval) Geddis, 78, of Ruth Avenue, Agawam, formerly of Orange, died on Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003 at a local nursing home.
Born in Orange, to the late Raymond and Elizabeth (Morin) Duval, she had lived in Agawam for 37 years. While living in Orange she had worked for the former Orange Shoe Co. for several years. She was a 1944 graduate of Orange High School, a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church, Agawam and a member of the Agawam Senior Center. Rita enjoyed crochet, jigsaw and crossword puzzles, and loved to take care of her grandchildren.
She leaves her husband of 54 years, Leonard J. Geddis; three daughters, Jean M. Kie of League City, TX. She also leaves four grandchildren, Kenneth and Jeffrey Kie, Kristin and Angela Mercier. A grandson, Jason Kie, predeceased her in 1986.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 16 at 9 a.m. from the Colonial Forastiere Funeral Home, 985 Main St., Agawam, with a 10 a.m. Mass in the St. John the Evangelist Church. Burial will be in the Calif.
Samuel B. Estabrooks
Lifelong Orange Resident
NORTH ORANGE - Samuel B. Estabrooks, 74, of The Overview Farm, 63 Main St., died Thursday evening, Oct. 9, 2003 in Health Alliance - Leominster Campus, following an illness.
Born in North Orange on March 1, 1929, a son of Philip G. And Almira (Blanchard) Estabrooks, he grew up on the family farm and attended the former one room school house in North Orange for eight grades. He was a graduate of Orange High School in 1946.
A gentleman farmer, he also worked in construction and carpentry and retired at age 55 from the Grainger Company as a construction supervisor. During his career, he was a member of the Calif.; daughters, Diane Tilden of Brooklyn, Ohio, and Donna Estabrooks of Lake Pleasant - Montague; six grandchildren, Christine Bonini, Meeghan Bonini, Zoe Tilden, Ian Estabrooks - McPherson, Kyle Estabrooks, and Sean Estabrooks; sisters, Jean Denno of Athol and Nancy Jones of Charlotte, N.C.; and a niece and nephew Janice and Leon Nicoliello of North Orange. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 18, in the Community Church of North Orange & Tully, Main Street, North Orange, at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Lois Buchiane officiating. Interment in Tully Cemetery will be private.

Donald R. Cross
PETERSHAM - Donald R. Cross, 65, of 240 North Main St., who died on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003 at UMass Memorial in Worcester, was the son of George and Edith (Perkins) Cross. Among his survivors are two brothers, Richard Cross Sr. of Beverly and Philip Cross of Massachusetts College of Art and received her bachelor of fine arts from Syracuse University, and her masters degree from Jacksonville University.
Caroline moved to Jacksonville in 1973 where she began her teaching career at Fletcher High School, teaching pottery and ceramics. She moved to Fletcher Junior High in 1978, and to Landmark Middle School in 1990.
As an artist and a teacher, Ms. Porter enriched the lives of thousands of students.
Caroline loved gardening and reading, and enjoyed the companionship of her pets. She was an avid traveler and enjoyed numerous trips to Europe, Africa, Asia, Central and South America.
She had many dear friends who will remember her for her creativity, patience, and kindness.
Family members include her daughter, Elizabeth Porter; sisters Terri Johnson and Sonja Langlais and her close friend and companion, Fred Downs. Other family members include Elizabeth's father, David Porter and grandmother, Audrey Porter.
Services will be held Saturday, Oct. 11, at 2 p.m. at the Lower Cemetery in Phillipston.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arts Education Program at Atlantic Medical Center.

Donald R. Cross
Was Golf Pro In Petersham
PETERSHAM - Donald R. Cross, 65, of 240 North Main St., died on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003 at the UMass Memorial in Worcester.
Born in Danvers, he was the son of George and Edith (Dunbar) Cross. He was a graduate of Danvers High School.
He was a Marine Corps veteran.
Donald lived in Petersham and Port Charlotte, Fla.
He was golf pro and manager at the Petersham Country Club for 23 years. He was an assistant golf pro at Holden Hills Country Club. He was head pro at Glenn Ellen Country Club in Millis. He was a member of the New England Professional Golfers' Association, since 1966. He volunteered many hours of his time and had a great love for junior golfers.
He leaves his wife Penny M. (Harlow) Rose Cross of Petersham; a son, D. Michael Cross of New Hampshire, Richard Cross, Philip Cross; and four grandchildren.
Calling hours will be on Sunday, Oct. 12 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Pillsbury Funeral Home, 96 South Barre Rd., Barre.
Burial will be at a later date.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 11 at 2 p.m. in Central Congregational Church, 22 South Main St., New Salem. The Rev. Stanley Dahlman, will officiate.
Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
