TEMPLETON - Funeral services were held on Friday, Sept. 26, 2003 at the Pine Grove Cemetery, for Virginia (Smallwood) Heath, 83, of 345 State Rd., who died Tuesday Sept. 23, 2003 in the Athol Memorial Hospital, Athol. The Rev. Stephanie Flynn officiated.
Pallbearers were Brian A. Heath, Brent E. Heath, Jay A. Heath, Eric A. Sund, Daniel A. Varnum and Jay E. Deane.

ORANGE - A graveside service was held on Monday, Oct. 6, in South Cemetery, for Rita C. (Hubbard) Clark, 79, of 28 Highland
Street, who died at Athol Memorial Hospital Sept. 29. The Rev. Lois Buchiane of the Community Church of North Orange and Tully officiated.
The pallbearers were Kenneth Alden, Wayne Hubbard, Jim Hubbard, Peter Hubbard, Scott Hubbard, and John Hubbard. A reception followed the service at the Fellowship Hall at the Central Congregational Church in Orange.

ORANGE - Herbert M. Rogers, 82, of 5 Hillside Terrace, died Friday, Oct. 3, 2003 in the Quabbin Valley Healthcare, Athol.
Born in Orange, on Jan. 25, 1921, a son of Orry M. And A. Rosetta (Barber) Rogers, he grew up in Orange and graduated from Orange High School in 1939. He was the Class of 1939 Treasurer.
After graduation he began working at Erving Paper Mills for a brief time before becoming employed at the L. S. Starrett Co., Athol.
During World War II he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. He studied to be an aircraft machinist at the National School of Aeronautics in Kansas City, MO. and was discharged as a staff sergeant in 1945.
Upon his discharge he returned to the L.S. Starrett Co., later graduating from the apprentice toolmaker's course. He later worked in the Research and Development Dept., the Design Engineering Dept. for 10 years until becoming foreman of the Design and Research Dept. in 1978. He continued as foreman until his retirement in 1983 after 43 years with the company.
He was an avid snowmobiler, a private pilot and enthusiastic motorcyclist. He had taken many trips on his motorcycle, traveling throughout New England.
An outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and in his younger days, skiing and rollerskating.
He was a member of the Starrett Twenty Five Year Club, Athol Orange Lodge of Elks, both the Orange and Athol Fish and Game Clubs, and National Rifle Association. He was a former member of the Experimental Aircraft Assoc., Mt Grace Snow Snoopers, American Legion Post 172, and New England Trail Riders Assoc.
Since his retirement, he and his wife had enjoyed a daily routine eating out for breakfast and traveling throughout the United States.
He leaves his wife of 61 years, Alice G. ( Larabee) Rogers; a daughter, Diane Picard and husband, Martin of Orange; a sister Joy Benoit of Visalia, CA; four grandchildren, Lizabeth Losius of Northfield, James Picard of Warwick, Martha Picard and Robert Picard both of Orange; many great grandchildren; two nephews and a niece.
His son, David H. Rogers died in 1998. He was also predeceased by two brothers, Frederick Rogers in 1934 and Leon Rogers in 1999.
Private funeral services and burial will be at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers contributions are suggested to American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, 01701.

ORANGE - Luella C. (Wheaton) Copeland, 80, of 200 East River St., Colonial Acres, died Friday evening, Oct. 3, 2003, in the Athol Memorial Hospital.
Born on Sept. 28, 1923, in North Adams, a daughter of Wilfred and Helen (White) Wheaton, she had been a resident of Orange for over 50 years.
A housekeeper for many years at the former Eastern Star Home in Orange she had previously worked at the former Orange Shoe and Minute Tapioca of Orange.
Her husband, William H. Copeland died in 1992.
A fun - loving lady, she enjoyed sewing, latching rugs and word search puzzles.
Survivors include her daughters, Susan Dennis and Jane Pettry, both of Orange; a brother, John Wheaton of Orange; sisters, Frances Cloukey and Jane Merritt, both of Orange, and Evelyn Fountain of Athol.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Karen Escott and a sister, Janice McCormick.
Services and burial in Warwick Center Cemetery will be private.

BRATTLEBORO, VT. - The Rev. Virginia P. Evans, 55, of Akely Road in West Brattleboro, died Wednesday morning, Oct. 1, 2003 at the Brattleboro Memorial Hospital, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Fondly known as “Pastor Ginny,” she was born in Waukegan, Ill on Dec. 3, 1947, the daughter of Robert and Grace (Kohl) Parrish.
She was raised and educated in Concord, N.H. and Amherst, MA moving to Brattleboro in 1996.
Her first church assignment was with the Whately Congregational Church in Whately, MA. She then became pastor of the First Congregational Church in Gardner, MA serving as pastor until February 2003. She was a former member of the Center Congregational Church in Brattleboro.
Prior to entering the ministry she taught elementary education in Concord, N.H. she married Jonathan Evans, who survives.
Besides her husband of 33 years she leaves, one son, Jeremy Evans of Brattleboro; a daughter, Christine Marie Evans of Morrison, CO; two brothers, Robert Parrish of North Conway, N.H.; two grandchildren, Cody Evans and Rebecca Walker, both of Brattleboro.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be conducted on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 11 a.m. a the First Congregational Church, 28 Green St., Maine United Methodist Church, officiating. A reception will follow the services, to be held in the church vestry.
