Hetty V. Sherman, 104, of 51 Hospital Rd., died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003 at the Baldwinville Nursing Home.
She was the most recent recipient of the Boston Post Cane as the oldest resident of the town of Templeton.

ATHOL - Helen (Cole) Chastney, 84, of 41 Lombard Ave., died Monday in the Quabbin Valley Healthcare after a long illness.
She was born in Courtland, NY, on March 31, 1919, daughter of the late John W. and Nora T. Cole and lived here many years.
Her husband, Frank Chastney, died in 1984.
Mrs. Chastney was a communicant of the St. Francis Church in Athol and was an avid reader. Many years ago, she worked at the former Grants Department Store and the former Fishman's Department Store, both in Athol.
She is survived by four sons, Michael Chastney of Athol, Dennis Chastney of Kittery, ME, Mark Chastney of Athol and Shawn Chastney of Santa Ana, CA; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
A son, Patrick Chastney, and a sister, Rita Cole, predeceased her.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service in the J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home, on Saturday, Nov. 29 at 10:30 a.m.
A calling hour will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Burial in Gethsemane Cemetery will be private and at the convenience of the family.

ORANGE - Maurice “Moe” Foley, 82, of Bear Creek Path, Ormond Beach, Fla., and formerly of Orange, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2003 at the Massachusetts Sgt. State Trooper after 20 years. He was the owner and operator of the Camelot Lounge in Athol from 1972 to 1982. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force during World War II as a pilot.
He was a former member of the N.H. and John Foley of Lawrence; and 11 step - grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of the Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, 548 North Nova Rd., Ormond Beach, FL.

ORANGE - Donna Marie (Willard) O'Brien, 45, of Ft. Pierce, Fla., formerly of Orange, died Nov. 18, 2003 at her home.
Survivors include her husband, Patrick Joseph O'Brien of Ft. Pierce; a daughter, Amanda Livingston of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; two sons, Justin Livingston and Scott Myers, both of Ft. Pierce; mother, Mildred Willard of Tt. Pierce; two sisters, Sonya Willard of Ft. Pierce and Sandra Lawrence of Orange; four brothers, George, Gary and Carl Willard Jr., all of Orange, and David Willard of Ft. Pierce; two grandchildren, Tyler Myers and Carlie Myers, both of Ft. Pierce.
She was preceded in death by her father, Carl Willard, and a sister, Laura Tilberg.

WESTFIELD - Robert Fisher, 71, of Westfield, died on Monday, Nov. 24, 2003 at the Noble Hospital.
He was a Unites States Air Force veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars serving from 1951 until his retirement in 1973. He was a medical training officer retiring with the rank of senior master sergeant.

ATHOL - Pauline L. (Fredette) Gautreau, 85, of 821 Daniel Shays Hwy., and formerly of 291 Park St., Gardner, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003 in the Quabbin Valley Healthcare following an illness.

FITZWILLIAM, N.H. - Sandra L. (Hutchinson) Pelkey, 58, of 3 Warran Hill Rd., died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003 in her home after a lengthy illness.
Alphonse F. Quader

ATHOL - Alphonse “Al” F. Quader, 80, of 287 Intervale Ave., died Sunday morning, Nov. 23, 2003 in the Athol Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born in Athol on Jan. 20, 1923, the son of the late John and Pauline (Simonis) Quader and lived here all of his life. He was a United States Navy Veteran of World War II.
He was a longtime communicant of the Our Lady Immaculate Church in Athol and a member of the Athol Knights of Columbus, the AARP and Athol Golden Agers. He was a former member of the Ellinwood Country Club and enjoyed playing cribbage and fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Suzanne M. (Gionet) Quader; one son, John G. Quader of Gardner; one sister, Elizabeth MacDonald of Athol; one grandson, Jason G. Quader of Fitchburg and several nephews and nieces, and Clarence Blanchard, who was like an adopted son. A son, James Quader of Athol, died in 1968.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral from the J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home, on Wednesday, Nov. 26, at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in Our Lady Immaculate Church, at 10 a.m.
Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery.
Visiting hours at the funeral home are from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Earl E. Lindell
Veteran, Carpenter
ROYALSTON - Earl E. Lindell, 80, of 40 South Royalston RD., died Friday, Nov. 21, 2003 at the Athol Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Providence, R.I., on Feb. 20, 1923, the son of Earl D. and Margaret (Reynold) Lindell. He grew up in Providence and entered the U.S. Navy where he served for 22 years. He served during World War II and the Korean War, aboard the U.S.S. Whale and the U.S.S. Nautilus submarines. He also served on 12 other submarines and ships throughout his Navy career.
Following his retirement from the Navy he served with the Merchant Marines for five years doing a tour in Viet Nam. He returned from the Merchant Marines and settled in Royalston in 1961. He worked at Duall Plastics, Harrington - Richardson in Gardner, Northfield Mountain dam project and was a self - employed carpenter until his retirement.
He was a member of the Star - Athol Lodge of Masons, A.F. and A.M., the Edward H. Phillips American Legion Post 102, the Roy L. Boyce V.F.W., the World War II Sub - Vets in Springfield, the National Rifle Association and the Royalston Rod and Gun Club.
His wife Thea C. (Smart) Lindell died in April of 2003 and his first wife Eva (Stevens) Lindell died in 1982. He leaves three stepsons; William Hood of Royalston, Richard Hood of Gardner, and Steven Hood of Marlboro, NH; two step - daughters, Carla Newell of Noblesville, IN, and Sandra Whaley of Lake Worth, FL; 18 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
At Mr. Lindell’s request, there are no funeral services planned.

Shepardson Services
ORANGE - Funeral services were held on Thursday, November 20, 2003 in Witty's Funeral Home, for Pauline V. (Barrett) Shepardson, 82, of 383 East River St., who died at home on Nov. 13, 2003 after being stricken ill.
The Rev. Barbara Seamon of the Central Congregational Church officiated. A reception followed at the Pine Crest Community Center.
Interment in South Cemetery will be private.
Witty's Funeral Home directed the arrangements.
