ELMER FRANKLIN AMES, 87, husband of Evelyn Ames and a resident of Melfa, died at his residence on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000. Born in Melfa, Mr. Ames was the son of the late George Ed and Rachael Mason Ames. He was a retired truck driver and a member of Grace-Mary Tabernacle. Funeral services were held at Grace-Mary Tabernacle Church on Saturday, Nov. 4, at 12 p.m. conducted by Elder Jesse P. Handshaw Jr. Interment was in Burton s Cemetery, Melfa. Other than his wife, Mr. Ames is survived by a step-daughter, Silvia; a step-son-in-law, Robert Jones; two brothers, Mason Ames and Brooks Ames; two grandchildren; two god-daughters; 10 sisters-in-law; six brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. ELIZABETH S. BAILEY, 84, wife of the late David Bailey and a resident of Exmore, for many years, died at the residence of Mary Holmes, Exmore, on Monday, Oct. 30, 2000. Born and reared in Jacksonville, Fla., Mrs. Bailey was a member of New Allen Memorial AME Church, Franktown and the Stewardess Board #2. Funeral services were held at New Allen Memorial AME Church on Saturday, Nov. 4, at 2 p.m. conducted by Rev. Chester W. Morris. Interment was in the church cemetery, Franktown. Mrs. Bailey is survived by two special nieces, one she took as a daughter; five sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; three special friends; and other relatives and friends. FLOYD S. BECK, 69, of Millsboro, formerly of Ephrata, Pa., died Nov. 2, 2000 at his home. He was 69. Beck, who was born in Reamstown, Pa., was the son of the late Milton and Mary Beck. He was a truck driver for Penn Dairies in Lancaster, Pa., for 15 years, retiring in 1987. Beck is survived by his wife of 26 years, Shirley Ann Weidman Beck; four stepsons, Robert Longenecker of Ephrata, Scott Longenecker and David Longenecker, both of Millsboro, and Eric Enck of Lewes; a stepdaughter, Nancy Lutz of Reinholds, Pa.; two brother, Gary Beck of Reamstown and Milton Beck of Ephrata; two sisters, Joyce Rutt of Ephrata and Jacquelyn Witman of Pocono, Pa.; and two grandchildren, Summer Longenecker and Mason Enck. Services and burial were private.

MARGARET M. BROWN, 58, of Vero Beach, Fla., died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, at Indian River Memorial Hospital following a prolonged illness. ELOISE CULLEN CHARNICK, 88, of Crisfield, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, at Manokin Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Princess Anne. Mabel E. Collins of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., died Nov. 1, 2000 at Broward General Medical Center, Ft. Lauderdale. She was 86. Collins, who was born in Dunn, N.C., was a graduate of the Sinai Hospital School of Nursing in Baltimore, Md. She and Joseph E. Collins were married in 1936. They had homes in Millsboro, Ocean City, Md., and Ft. Lauderdale. She loved her floral gardens, fishing and, most of all, her home. Mr. and Mrs. Collins were the former owners of Collins and Ryan Gas Company in Millsboro; they retired from business in 1973. Her husband died in 1995; and her brother Loy Hunsucker died in the same year. She is survived by her brother-in-law, the Rev. Dr. Brooks Reynolds of Millsboro; and nephews Brooks Reynolds Jr. of Kansas, Bruce Reynolds of Wilmington and Danny Hunsucker of Iowa. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 8 at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck Road and Route 24, Long Neck. Burial will be in Millsboro Cemetery.

MARY LOU CHARNICK, 73, of Salisbury, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at her daughter's home in Dover. DOROTHY MAE THOMAS CHRISTIAN, 58, wife of Albert Christian and a resident of Birdsnest, died at Shore Memorial Hospital, Nassawadox, on Friday, Oct. 20, 2000. Born and reared in Northampton County, Mrs. Christian was the daughter of the late Otis Thomas Sr. and Susie Harmon Thomas. She was a member of Transformation Church of God in Christ, Tasley, and a Missionary. Funeral services were held at Transformation Church of God in Christ on Saturday, Oct. 28, at 2 p.m. conducted by Elder Rodney D. Evans. SHANNON L. GATES, 18, was a senior at Cape Henlopen High School and had been involved with the junior reserve officers training corps program in ninth grade, and as a teacher s assistant last year. She had been working at Edy s Ice Cream, near Lewes, until her death. She is survived by her parents, Robert Gates, of Brookhaven, Pa., and Deborah Mitchell, of Milton; two brothers, Robert Smallwood, of Penns Grove, N.J., and Derek Mitchell, of Newark; three sisters, Ashley Gates, of Penns Grove, and Stephanie J. Mitchell and Erica N. Mitchell, both of Newark; a paternal grandmother, Mary Gates, of Wilmington; a maternal grandmother, Naomi Wilkerson, of Milton; and many uncles, aunts and cousins.

VIRGINIA LE ALLEN GREEN, 84, a resident of Mt. Vernon, N.Y. for many years, died at Shore Memorial Hospital, Nassawadox, on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000. Born and reared in Northampton County, Mrs. Green was the daughter of the late Henry and Anna Coleman Allen. She was a homemaker and a member of Greater Centennial AME Zion Church, Mt. Vernon. A native of Oyster, Mr. Isdell was the son of the late John Isdell and Mable Marshall Isdell. He was a retired waterman, a member of Travis Chapel United Methodist Church, and was a WWII veteran. WILLIAM JOHNSON, 76, a resident of Fairview, for many years, died at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Norfolk, Va., on Friday, Oct. 27, 2000. Born in Crisfield, Md. and reared in Northampton County, Mr. Johnson was the son of the late William and India Collins Johnson. He worked for Birdseye Food Corporation in New York for 16 years. PATRICIA ELIZABETH JUSTUS, wife of Jack R. Justus and a resident of Cedarview, died at her residence on Friday, Nov. 3, 2000. A native of New York City, Mrs. Justus was the daughter of the late Joseph Calnan and Elizabeth Sullivan Stemmann. She was timekeeper for Dulaney and Exmore Foods and was a member of St. Peter s Catholic Church. Graveside services were held at Belle Haven Cemetery on Monday, Nov. 6, at 10:30 a.m. conducted by Father J. Michael Breslin. LEROY KING, 70, died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, at his Market Street home in Snow Hill. Born in Norfolk, he was the son of the late Leroy D. King and Mary Smith. King attended Worcester County Public Schools. In 1947, he enlisted in the United States Air FOrce, where he served for 21 years, retiring as a sergeant in 1968. During his service, he was stationed at Dover Air Force Base and the former Pease Air Force Base in Portsmouth, N.H. His former employment included: Prat-Whitney in East Hanover, Conn,; Mystic River/Tobin Bridge in Boston; Worcester County Board of Education and the Government Service Administration in Washington. At the time of his death, King was on medical disability from the American Federation of Government Employees where he served as a union member of Local 2151. During his time with the union, King also served as the president of AFGE Local 2151, Regional Vice President for the National Capital Region of the General Services Administration since 1986, Sergeant of Arms, Principal Representative, AFGE Counselor and member of the National Safety Council. He was a former commander in chief of the American Legion Frankie E. Boomer Post #6 in Portsmouth, N.H. and a member of the VFW posts in Portsmouth and Pocomoke City, where he served as a commander in chief and service officer. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans. King is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary King, of Snow Hill; three daughters, Darlene King of New Haven, Conn., Marva King of Wilmington and Kelley King of Snow Hill; six sons, Kazi Toure and Arnold King of Boston, Daniel King of Salisbury, Alan and John King, both of Wilmington, and Desmond Earl of Waterville, Maine; 19 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four daughters-in-law and two brothers-in-law. A funeral service will be held today at 11 a.m. at Family Worship Center in Salisbury. Interment will be in Maryland Veteran s Cemetery in Hurlock. AGNES MCNUTT "CHICKEN" KRICKER of Bethany Beach, died Nov. 3, 2000. She was 91. Kricker, who was born in Crawfordsville, Ind., attended Indiana University and the University of Maryland, where she earned master s degrees in home economics and education and was a charter member of the Gamma Psi Chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma. She was a retired elementary school teacher in Montgomery County, Md., and in Ocean View. Kricker was a member of the Women s Board of Montgomery General Hospital in Olney, Md., and was an auxiliary member of Beebe Medical Center in Lewes. She enjoyed traveling, knitting and reading. Kricker is survived by a son, Frank McNutt Kricker; two daughters, Louise Kricker Megginson and Caroline Kricker Hussman; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Services were private. LUCILLE DOCKINS LEE, 70, of East New Market, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at University Hospital of Maryland. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Mt. Milton McIntosh, 83, of Pocomoke City, departed this life on Sunday, October 29, 2000, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center. He was born in Wilson, North Carolina. When he became eight years old, his family moved to Pocomoke City. Milton attended school in Horntown, Va. He was employed by the Golden Pride Poultry Plant for 18 years, where he retired. Milton was a member of the Pocomoke Evangelistic Church of Deliverance.
MILTON MCINTOSH - Milton was preceded in death by his mother, Carrie McIntosh, his father, Jesse Mc Intosh, Sr., his son, Jesse Mc Intosh, Jr., and his wife, Margaret Mc Intosh. He is survived by his god-daughter, Pastor Elnora Wise; God-grandchildren, Sylvia and Teresa Fletcher and Aaron Ballard all of Pocomoke; brother-in-law, Bill Allen; and sister-in-law, Louise Allen of Pocomoke. A funeral service was held Friday, November 3, at the Bennie Smith Funeral Home in Pocomoke. Interment was at Mt. Siani Baptist Church Cemetery in Pocomoke.

ROYCE L. MERRITT, 47, of Bloxom, Va., died Monday, October 30, 2000, in Salisbury, Md. Born in Salisbury, Md., he was the son of the late James Merritt and Betty Lee Poulson Merritt. He was the husband of Kathie Taylor Merritt. Mr. Merritt was employed as a Pinkerton Security Guard for Perdue. He was a member of the Hallwood Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Kathie Taylor Merritt; four children, Sandra Dee Brown of Melfa, Va., Dawn Renee Perry of Greenbush, Va., Cynthia Joy Merritt of Bloxom, and Mitchell Dean Merritt of Bloxom; four brothers, Richard Perry Merritt of Sanford, Va., Ronald Dean Merritt of Temperanceville, Va, James Randall Merritt of Sanford, and Otho Jennings Merritt of Alexandria, Va.; twelve grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Royce Lee Merritt. A graveside service was held at Downings Cemetery in Oak Hall, Va. on Thursday. The Rev. Freddie Ward officiated. Interment was in Downing Cemetery.

HARRY JAMES MILBOURNE, 53, of Pocomoke City, died Friday, October 27, at his home. The son of Donald and Elsie Milbourne, he was born in Pocomoke City, on February, 19,1947. He joined8ned St. James United Methodist Church at an early age and was educated in the Worcester County public schools. He served in the Vietnam War in the United States Army. Following an honorable discharge, he joined the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 10048. He was employed at Concrete and Masonry Inc. as a foreman. Besides his parents he is survived by his wife Connie Milboune; two sons, Vaughn Waters of Baltimore, and Julius Milboune of Pocomoke City; two daughters, Rava Candy Mason and Jovante Kissy Wallop of Pocomoke City; a step son, Frank Savage of Washington, D.C.; a step daughter, Kensey Snell of Pocomoke City; three sisters, Geraldine Milboune Poole of Ft. Washington, Md., Bessie Milboune Bryant of Philadelphia, and Brenda Milboune Williams of Newark, Del.,; a grandson, Myron Mason of Pocomoke City; there brothers, a son-in-law, two brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law, step brothers, step sisters, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Servies were Saturday at Pocomoke High School. Interment was in St. James Church Cemetery.

DARREN CRAIG MITCHELL, 31, a lifelong resident of Cape Charles, died at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Norfolk, Va., on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000. Born and reared in Cape Charles, Mr. Mitchell was the son of David Henry Mitchell and Mabel Chapman Mitchell. He was a member of Union Baptist Church, Washington, D.C., since 1995, and a former member of First Baptist Church, Cape Charles. He received several awards and recognition for his literary and oratorical presentations, was a 1994 graduate of Virginia State University, Petersburg, Va., having received a Bachelor of Science degree in information systems. Funeral services were held at First Baptist Church, Cape Charles, on Wednesday, Nov. 1, at 11 a.m. conducted by Rev. R.W. Wilson. Interment was in the Cape Charles Community Cemetery. Other than his parents, Mr. Mitchell is survived by a sister, Laurie Maureena Mitchell of Mt. Rainier; maternal grandmother, Annie Laura Chapman of Cape Charles; three uncles; five aunts; a great-aunt; numerous cousins; and a host of other relatives and friends. Arrangements were made by Gray s Funeral Home, Cape Charles.

DICK HARLEY MITCHELL JR., 49, Shannon L. Gates, 18, John P. Schofield Jr., 10, Matthew E. Schofield, 9, and Donald Wheeler III, 23 months, all of Milton, died in a house fire in Broadkill Beach, Tuesday, Oct. 31. Mr. Mitchell was born in Kingston, Pa., and served in the National Guard. He retired in May from the General Motors Boxwood Plant, Newport, after 30 years service. He was the founding member of the Dwarf Brotherhood, Wilmington. He is survived by his wife, Deborah Wilkerson Mitchell; a son, Derek Mitchell, of Newark; two daughters, Stephanie J. Mitchell and Erica N. Mitchell, both of Newark; and a sister, Sharyn L. Bressler, of Elkton, Md. Deborah Mitchell was the sole survivor of the fire.

ELEANOR H. MURRAY, 90, of Delmar, and formerly of Selbyville, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, at Chancellor Care in Delmar. A graveside service will be held today at 11 a.m. at Redmen's Cemetery in Selbyville. HAROLD ECKARD MYERS, 70, of Fallston, Md., died Friday, Nov. 3, 2000, at the home of his daughter. A funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel in Westminster, Md., where friends may call Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Interment will be held at Meadow Branch Cemetery in Westminster.

GOLDA A. PETTYJOHN JR., 75, of rural Georgetown, died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, at the Beebe Medical Center in Lewes. A funeral service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Watson Funeral Home in Millsboro, where friends may call two hours prior to the service. Interment will be held at St. John's Cemetery in Georgetown. EILEEN B. PORTER, 77, of Millsboro, died Nov. 5, 2000 at the Millsboro Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Porter, who was born in Wilmington, was the daughter of the late Archie B. and Blanche Miller Collins. She was a member of the Long Neck United Methodist Church and the Mid-Sussex Rescue Squad. Her husband, John E. Porter, died in 1986. She is survived by a son, Richard C. Porter of Louisville, Ken.; two daughters, Jacquelyn Fleming of New Castle and Kathleen Greer of Newark; two brothers, James A. Collins and Roland J. Collins, both of Wilmington; a sister, Kitty Bell of Media, Pa.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 8 at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington Street, Millsboro. Services and burial will be private. KATHRYN CHAPMAN POWER, 89, of Weirton, W.V., formerly of Steubenville, OH., died Tuesday, October 17, 2000 at Weirton Geriatric Center, Weirton, W.V. She was born in Greenbackville, Va., May, 13, 1911, a daughter of the late William and Nettie Tull Chapman. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lawrence E. Yarter, 1972; second husband, James Power, 1982, and one brother, William Chapman. She was retired from the Steubenville Board of Education as a matron. She was a member of the Calvary Fifth United Methodist Church, Board of Trustees, United Methodist Women and Chairman of Ruth Circle and Communion Services. Survivors include one son, Larry Yarter of Weirton, W.V.; one sister, Mae Tarr of Pocomoke City, four grandchildren, one great-grandson, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at McClave, Chandler-Mills Funeral Home in Steubenville on Friday, October 20 with the Rev. Richard Smith officiating. Burial was in Union Cemetery in Steubenville.

H.C. WILLIAM "BILL" SCHILLING, 71, of Parsonsburg, died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000, at his home. A funeral service will be held Friday at 7 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church on Camden Avenue in Salisbury. John P. Schofield Jr., 'J.P.', 10, was a fifth grader at Milton Middle School. He was involved in the Milton Soccer League and played on the Yankees Little League Team.
Matthew E. Schofield, 9, was a third grader at H.O. Brittingham Elementary School, near Milton, and was also involved with the Milton Soccer League and the Yankees Little League team. Both boys were involved with all types of sports and enjoyed fishing. They are survived by their father, John P. Schofield Sr., of Georgetown; their mother, Deborah Mitchell, of Milton; a brother, Derek Mitchell, of Newark; two sisters, Stephanie J. Mitchell and Erica N. Mitchell, both of Newark; their maternal granmother, Naomi Wilkerson, of Milton; their paternal great-grandmother, Sabina Adolfus Schofield, of Wilmington; and many uncles, aunts and cousins.

MILDRED H. SMITH, 87, of Federalsburg, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at Caroline Nursing Home in Denton. STEPHEN CARROLL STERLING, 52, a resident of Westover, Md., died in Temperanceville on Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000. Born and reared in Baltimore, Md., Mr. Sterling was the son of Roland Sterling and Geneva Huffman Sterling. He was a security guard with NASA, a M.P. in the U.S. Army, a graduate of Crisfield High School and Edison Community College, taught English in Thailand, and taught guitar lessons for the last two years. Funeral services were held at Fox Funeral Home, Temperanceville, on Monday, Nov. 6, at 12:30 p.m. Interment was in the Spring Hill Memory Garden, Salisbury, Md. Other than his parents, Mr. Sterling is survived by a fiance, Dolores Veitch of Onancock; three sisters, Denise Hickman of Pocomoke City, Md., Patti Berquest of Green Bay, Wis., and Robin Lupean of Baltimore; a brother, Michael David Sterling of Delmar, Md; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and Mrs. Veitch s daughter, Aubrey Veitch. Harmon, of Lewes; and a maternal great-grandmother, Mary Gates, of Wilmington. A memorial service for Mr. Mitchell was held Saturday, Nov. 4. A service for the five family members was held Sunday, Nov. 5, at Eagles Nest Fellowship, Milton. Burial took place in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milton. PETER A. WOLF SR., 79, of Georgetown, passed away Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, at Bayhealth Medical Center at Milford Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Lofland Funeral Home in Milford, where friends may call after noon. The Loyal Order of Moose, Harrington Lodge 534 will hold its ritual at 12:55 p.m. Burial will be in St. Johnstown Cemetery in Greenwood.
