Stanley Freed Sr.
Stanley Warren Freed Sr., 76, of Stevensville, formerly of Annapolis, died of cancer at his home March 21, 2002.
Mr. Freed was born in Catonsville. He served in the Navy during World War II in the European theater and was honorably discharged in 1946.
He worked for the Conrail Railroad for 40 years until his retirement in 1985.
He was a member of the New LIfe Christian Outreach Church in Chester, American Legion Post 278, the Kent Island Moose Club and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Grasonville.
Mr. Freed enjoyed fishing, boating and going to flea markets.
He is survived by three former wives, Joan Lenivy, Roberta Koester and Marlene Freed; three sons, Stanley Freed Jr. of Pasadena, and Alan and Clayton Freed of Abington; two daughters, Kellie Moody of Stevensville and Terri Freed of California; a sister, Ruth Colston of Kentucky; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at New Life Christian Outreach, 101 Country Day Road, Chester. Burial will be private.
Arrangements are by the Adams Funeral and Memorial Care of Annapolis.

John Peterson
John Steven "Just John" Peterson, 56, of Eastport died of colon cancer March 17, 2002 at his home after a brief illness.
Mr. Peterson was born in Denver. He received his bachelor's degree from Middlebury College in Vermont and a doctoral degree from Yale University.
An expert in color analysis, he was a partner in Janda Corp. of Annapolis and a sales associate at West Marine.
He was a member of the Black Tie Society of Annapolis.
He was formerly married
to J. Courtney Peterson of Piedmont, Calf.
Surviving are his partner, Deborah Green of Annapolis; two sons, Erik and Kyle Peterson of Piedmont; and one brother, Steven Peterson of Derby, Vt. He was the brother of the late Bruce Peterson.

Audrey Maynard
M. Audrey Maynard, 87, of Galesville died March 20, 2002 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
Mrs. Maynard was born in Beltsville. She retired as a statistician with the Census Bureau.
She was a member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church in Lothian and a former member of Bell's United Methodist Church in Camp Springs.
Her interests included flowers, gardening and collecting rocks and dolls.
Her husband, Ernest "Jack" Maynard, died in 1977.
Surviving are two daughters, Eunice M. Herr of Galesville and Joyce E. Chesley of Charleston, Tenn.; one sister, Edrie Rice of Mechanicsville; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow at Mount Zion United Methodist Church. Arrangements are by Kalas Funeral Home in Edgewater.

Matthew Randall
Matthew Reed Randall, 78, of Turkey Point in Edgewater, formerly of Woodland Beach, died March 21, 2002 at his home after a lengthy illness with heart disease.
Known as "Sonny, " Mr. Randall was born in Deale and graduated from Southern High School in Harwood. He worked for the Naval Academy for 34 years as a metal molder.
He was a longtime member of the Annapolis Elks Lodge. He enjoyed walking, biking and crabbing.
He is survived by his wife, Agnes L. Randall, whom he married
May 18, 1945; and one son, Glenn R. Randall of Annapolis. He was the brother of the late George Leo Randall.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, where services will be at 10 a.m. tomorrow. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.

James Shipe
James David Shipe, 72, of Falls Church, Va., died March 18, 2002 at Fairfax Hospital in Virginia.
Born in Charles Town, W.Va., Mr. Shipe retired as food service manager at Fairfax Hospital, where he would volunteer to work on holidays so others could be with their families.
Surviving are his friend, Frances Short; one brother, Carlton Shipe of Mechanicsville; and three sisters, Marie Bullis of Charles Town, Mabel Gleason of Columbia and Janet Colarusso of Lothian.
He was the brother of the late Raymond Shipe and Juanita Bourdelais.
Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. tomorrow at Hardesty Funeral Home, 851 Annapolis Road, Gambrills. Burial will follow in National Memorial Park in Falls Church.

Irene Caughy
Irene Brown Caughy, 80, of Stevensville, died March 21, 2002 at her home.
Mrs. Caughy was born in Baltimore, the daughter of the late Joseph A. and Mary Irene Fitzsimmons Brown. She attended St. Mary's Govans School and Notre Dame Preparatory School, and received an associate of arts degree from Mount St. Agnes College.
Her early work was as an administrative assistant with the Glenn L. Martin Co.
Mrs. Caughy was editor of The Bells, the paper of St. Mary's Parish; a former president of the Mothers Club of St. Mary's School; and a member of the Yorkwood Women's Club in Baltimore.
After moving to Stevensville in 1977, she became a member of St. Christopher's Catholic Church in Chester.
Her hobbies were genealogy and sewing.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Howard J. Caughy Sr.; two sons, Howard J. Caughy Jr. of Dundalk, and Robert M. Caughy of Arnold; one daughter, Patricia C. Norico of Glen Arm; two brothers, James I. Brown of Baltimore and John M. Brown of Ocean City; one sister, Sara B. Whipple of Lutherville; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was the sister of the late Joseph A. Brown Jr. and William B. Brown.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 106 Shamrock Road, Chester. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Christopher's Catholic Church in Chester. Burial will be in New Cathedral cemetery in Baltimore.
