GEORGE C. BURDOCK
George Carroll Burdock, 71, Elk Garden, W.Va., died Monday, Oct. 9, 2006, at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser, W.Va.
Born March 30, 1935, he was a son of the late George H. and Mae E. (Liller) Burdock. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Dorladeen Thomas.
Surviving are his wife Patricia "Patty" (Cosner) Burdock; one daughter, Sherry and husband Carroll McRobie of Elk Garden; two sons, Timothy and wife Crystal of McCoole, and Thomas and wife Cassandra of Keyser; four grandchildren, Miranda, Shane, Abby, and Hailey; and two brothers, Dan Burdock of Elk Garden, and Clyde Burdock of Keyser.
Friends were received at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, Kitzmiller.
A service was held on Wednesday, Oct. 11, at the Nethkin Hill Methodist Church, Elk Garden, with the Rev. Russell Webster of-ficiating.
Interment followed in Kalbaugh Cemetery, Elk Garden.

LEVI E. MILLER
Levi E. Miller, 57, Limestone, Tenn., died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006, at the Johnson City Medical Center.
He was a son of the late Emanuel and Edna Hersh-berger Miller.
He was a farmer, and a member of the Green County Mennonite Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Miller; 12 children, Dorcas Miller and Julia Yoder, both of Costa Rica, Joann Kauffman, Bloomfield, Mo., and James Miller, Andrew Miller, Edna Mae Miller, Joyce Yoder, Gerald Miller, Grace Miller, Keturah Miller, Eunice Miller, and Nathanel Miller, all of Limestone; one brother, Ray Miller, Oakland; two sisters, Katie Garber, Sarasota, Fla., and Verda Kinsinger, Oakland; and 13 grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Green County Mennonite Church, where a service was held on Tuesday, Oct. 10, with John Smucker, Raymond Fisher, and Millard Yoder officiating.
The Kiser Funeral Home, Greeneville, Tenn., was in charge of arrangements.

RANDOLPH P. OWENS
Randolph Plummer Owens, 90, formerly of Upper Marlboro and Garrett County, and most recently of Frostburg Village Nursing Home, Frostburg, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006, at the nursing home.
Born Feb. 1, 1916, he was the son of the late Randolph P. Owens Sr. and Antoinette (Beall) Owens. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Owens.
He was a retired bus driver, having worked for the Metro Transit System.
Surviving are two sons, Thomas R. Owens of Bowie, and Randy Owens of Upper Marlboro; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
At his request his body was cremated. There will be no visitation or services.
The Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, is in charge of arrangements.

ALVIN F. BRENNEMAN
Alvin Fay Brenneman, 77, Grantsville, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006, at Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville.
Born Aug. 30, 1929, in Accident, he was a son of the late Ernest and Amelia (Schrock) Brenneman. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Alice Brenneman (infant), Leona Beitzel, and Rhonda Miller; and three brothers, Samuel, William H. (Bud), and Carl.
Mr. Brenneman was a member of Glade Mennonite Church and spent two years at Norristown, Pa., in 1-W Service. He was a heavy equipment operator for Tom Moran, Westernport, M.F. Fetterolf, Somerset, Pa., and others.
Surviving are his wife, Janet Arlene (Byler) Brenneman; three sons, Randy and wife Marci and Steve and wife Shannon, all of Accident, and Mike and wife Brenda, Grantsville; three brothers, Allen Brenneman, Accident, Ernest Brenneman Jr., Grantsville, and Elmer Brenneman, Eureka, Mont.; five sisters, Olive Puffinburg, Springs, Pa., Ruth Headings, West Liberty, Ohio, Miriam Brenneman, Accident, Arlene Zook, Harrington, Del., and Lois Brenneman, Traverse City, Mich.; and seven grandchildren, Megan, Dustin, Amanda, Ashley, Daniel, Jacob, and Caleb.
Friends will be received at Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, today, Thursday, Oct. 12, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A service will be conducted in Glade Mennonite Church on Friday at 10 a.m., with Rev. Earl Yoder and Rev. Mayard Beitzel officiating.
Interment will be held in Glade Cemetery. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service.
Expressions of sympathy may be directed to Hospice of Garrett County.

ROBERT L. HELMICK
Robert L. "Boomer" Helmick, 69, Horse Shoe Run, W.Va., died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2006, at his home.
Born Aug. 9, 1937, in Bayard, W.Va., he was a son of the late Benjamin Lee Helmick and Mary Catherine Bonner Helmick. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Arthur Plauger, Gerald Plauger, and Richard Plauger; and one sister, Dorothy Paugh.
He was a retired coal miner from Consol Coal Co., and a member of Union Ambulance, Mount Grove Volunteer Fire Department, and Bethel United Methodist Church, Horse Shoe Run.
Surviving are his wife, Letha L. Shaffer Helmick; two sons, Roger Helmick and wife Carolyn, Horse Shoe Run, and Richard Helmick and wife Lisa, Eglon, W.Va.; two daughters, Shirley Simmons and husband Russell, and Robin Roth, all of Horse Shoe Run; three sisters, Juanita Hawk, Petersburg, W.Va., Claretta Hawk, Fayetteville, N.C., and Carolyn Tasker, Oakland; and seven grandchildren, Lisa Helmick Shahan, Anthony Helmick, Heather Roth, Matthew Roth, Michael Roth, Mark Simmons, and Todd Simmons.
Friends were received at the Hinkle Funeral Home, Davis, W.Va.
A service was held on Tuesday, Nov. 14, at Bethel United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Deborah Friend and Joe Robinette officiating.
Interment followed in the Texas Cemetery, Horse Shoe Run.

LESLIE E. FRIEND
Leslie Edward Friend, 78, Aloha, Ore., died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006.
He was born Jan. 7, 1928, in Friendsville.
In April 1947, he entered the U.S. Navy, retiring from military service in 1971 with the rank of lt. commander. He was then employed as a building engineer at Meier and Frank for the next 20 years.
He was a member of the Tualatin Valley Community Church and the Military Officers Association of America.
He was survived by his wife, Joan Carol Friend, whom he married April 18, 1952; three children, Jeffrey Friend, Gregory Friend, and Leslie Carol Smiley; one sister, Shirley Wirsing, Greensburg, Pa.; and eight grandchildren.
A service will be held at the Tualatin Valley Community Church, Aloha, on Saturday, Nov. 4, at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Portland Rescue Mission or Gideon International.

ESTHER M. OPEL
Esther Margaret Opel, 91, Accident, died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2006, at Alle Kiski Medical Center, Butler, Pa.
Born July 8, 1915, in Keyser's Ridge, she was a daughter of the late John and Margaret (Zehner) Opel. She was also preceded in death by six sisters, Alma Opel, Mildred Wiedenheft, Edith Harman, Alverta Opel, infant Leota Boltz, and Claudine Opel; and one brother, Clyde Opel. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Miss Opel was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church, M.S., Accident, from date of baptism Aug. 29, 1915, and confirmed on May 26, 1929. She was a Sunday school teacher for more than 40 years and member of the Ladies Aid Society and secretary of the congregation.
She was a graduate of Grantsville High School in 1931 and Frostburg State College in 1935, member of the first class with a B.S. degree in education. Miss Opel taught for 40 years in Garrett County Schools. She is a member of Garrett County Retired Teachers Association and Maryland Retired Teachers Association.
She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
Friends were received at Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville.
A service was conducted at St. John's Lutheran Church on Wednesday, Nov. 22, with Rev. Douglas Kabell officiating.
Interment was in St. John's Cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy may be directed to St. John’s Memorial Fund or the charity of choice.

ERNESTINE McTALL JOHNSEN
Ernestine Virginia McTall (Metallo) Helgesen Swain Johnsen, 88, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2006, in Des Plaines, Ill.
Born March 28, 1918, in Pierce, W.Va., she a daughter of the late Louie and Susan "Susie" Frances Biller (Bealer) McTall, formerly of Oakland. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Sharon Frances Helgesen Swain; and three husbands, Raymond McKinley Helgesen, John "Jack" Swain, and Lloyd Johnsen.
She graduated in 1936 from Thomas High School in Thomas, W.Va.
Surviving are three sons, Douglas Lewis Helgesen, Palatine, Ill., Erik Howie Helgesen, Des Plaines, and Winston "Winnie" Anthony Helgesen, Wheaton, Ill.; two sisters, Bertha Leona McTall Buckle, Cumberland, and Betty Lou McTall Hull Cuddy, Daytona Beach, Fla.; and 11 grandchildren.
Her ashes are tentatively placed at Acacia Park Cemetery, 7800 Irving Park Road, Chicago, Ill.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the donor's church of choice. Memorials may also be made to the Alzheimer’s Association National Office, #225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.

CORILE W. WILHELM
Corile W. Wilhelm, 77, Cranesville (Terra Alta), W.Va., went to be with her Savior and Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2006. She died at her residence after a valiant struggle with cancer.
Born Sept. 25, 1929, in Charleston, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late James Robert Waybright and Edith Backus Waybright.
She attended school in Charleston, and graduated from Asbury College, Wilmore, Ky., in 1951, with a degree in psychology. She later did graduate work in education at Frostburg State College, Fairmont State College, and West Virginia University. She taught school for two years in Pres-ton County and then 30 years at Southern High School, Oakland. For several of those years she was chairperson of the business department.
Early in life, Corile became a devout Christian and was a faithful and dedicated pastor's wife for over 49 years. In 1972 she and her husband founded Aldersgate Evangelical Center Inc., a Christian ministry especially for children and youth. She served as treasurer since its inception, a member of the board, and manager/laborer in the dining hall and kitchen.
Corile was a faithful member of the Faith United Methodist Church, sang in the choir and taught the Victory Sunday School class for the past 30 years. She was an active member of the Faith United Methodist Women, serving as president at different times. She was always a radiant witness for Christ as she served with her husband in ministry.
She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Berlin H. Wilhelm; one son, John M. Wilhelm and wife Harla Sue; two grandchildren, Sara and husband Justin Wolfe and Jonathan Wil-helm; two brothers, Dale Waybright and wife Joy, Dallas, Texas, and Phillip Waybright and wife Frieda, Aiken, S.C.; two sisters, Carolyn and Harriet Waybright, both of Aiken; several nieces and nephews; and many, many kind friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant brother.
Family and friends will be received at the Arthur H. Wright Funeral Home, Terra Alta, on Friday, Nov. 24, from 7 to 9 p.m., and Saturday, Nov. 25, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The body will be moved and lie in state at the Epworth Chapel at Aldersgate Evangelical Center on Sunday, Nov. 26, from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m., the time of the service.
Burial will follow at the Terra Alta Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in her name to Aldersgate Evangelical Center, Chapel Fund, RR 2 Box 46, Terra Alta, WV 26764; or Hospice Care Corp., P.O. Box 760, Arthurdale, WV 26520.
