Elizabeth Oswald
Elizabeth Catherine Oswald, 102, of Germantown, Tenn., and formerly of Annapolis, died April 2, 2002 at Methodist Healthcare in Germantown after a lengthy illness.
Born in Georgia, Mrs. Oswald lived in Annapolis from 1935 to 2001.
During World War II, she worked for the Department of the Navy in Washington, D.C. She attended the Davidsonville United Methodist Church and was a regular participant at the Annapolis Senior Center.
She is survived by four sons, Arthur Oswald Jr. of Laurel, Vernon Oswald of New Orleans, La., Charles Oswald of Seat Pleasant and Paul Oswald of Baltimore; three daughters, Lois Oswald Lengel of Germantown, Wanda Oswald Rowley of Alligator Point, Fla., and Elizabeth Oswald Cotten of Annapolis; one brother, Leon Miller of Augusta, Ga.; 34 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Arthur Oswald, died in 1973.
A memorial service was held yesterday at her home in Germantown. Her body was donated to the University of Tennessee Medical College in Knoxville.
Donald Urban
Donald Clifford "Sawdust" Urban, 79, of Chestertown, died of natural causes April 2, 2002 at Kent and Queen Anne's Hospital in Chestertown.
Mr. Urban was the owner of Wholesale Lumber Services of Mount Joy, Pa., from 1969 to 1990 and a resident of Chestertown since 1988.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on April 18, 1922, he graduated from the New York State College of Forestry at Syracuse in 1945. He worked in retail lumber sales in Beverly, Mass., until moving to Lancaster, Pa., in 1954. He also worked as a traveling regional salesman for Dutton Lumber Co.
In 1965, he joined Lumberman's Associates until he co-founded Wholesale Lumber Services in 1968, specializing in supply custom-mixed lumber lots to retail suppliers and developers.
Mr. Urban was widely regarded as a salesman with a great appreciation for his customers, many of whom became lifelong friends. He was a Mason and member of Chestertown Baptist Church. He loved the water and owned two fleets of small boats and several pleasure craft to frequently sail, crab and fish.
In 1943, he married
Sara Brim Urban. They retired together to Chestertown. After her death, he married
Melva Lee of Churchton.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Sally Silberberg of Brooklyn, N.Y.; three sons, Jim Urban of Annapolis, Jack Urban of Atlanta, Ga., and Mark Urban of Portland, Ore.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and three stepchildren, Tricia Duley of Frederick, John Lohman of Shady Side and Mike Lohman of Waldorf.
A memorial service will be scheduled in May. Arrangements are by Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home in Chestertown.

Jimmy Yu
Jimmy S. K. Yu, 71, of Annapolis, died of natural causes April 4, 2002 at Deaton Hospital in Baltimore after a brief illness.
Mr. Yu was born in Shanghai, China, on Aug. 2, 1930, and spent his early years in New Zealand, North Boreno and Canada. He earned a bachelor of science degree from Cornell University in 1954 and later a master of science degree from American University.
He worked as an analyst for the U.S. Department of Transportation.
He was a member of Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Annapolis, where he served as an elder and Bible teacher for more than 20 years.
Surviving are his wife, Celia Yu; one son, Michael D. Yu of Annapolis; three daughters, Caroline Fijan of Westchester, Pa., Cynthia Kremann of Arnold and Sharon Ziesemer of Winston-Salem, N.C.; one brother, Peter Yu of Albuquerque, N.M.; and 11 grandchildren.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Hardesty Funeral Home, 12 Ridgely Ave. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ridgely and Wilsons roads, with burial in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Evangelical Presbyterian Church-Hungary Mission Fund, 701 Ridgely Ave., Annapolis, MD 21401.
Irene Cook
Irene Johnston Waddell Cook, of Holland, Pa., and formerly of Annapolis, died of natural causes April 2, 2002 at Lower Bucks County Hospital in Pennsylvnia.
Mrs. Cook was born in Baltimore and graduated from what is now Towson University with a teaching degree. She taught in Baltimore public schools in her early years.
A homemaker, she was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church while living in Annapolis.
The widow of Norman A. Waddell and John M. Cook, she is survived by one son, Norman Alan Waddell of Kyoto, Japan; one daughter, Norma W. Hamilton of Pennington, N.J.; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at a later date. Arrangements are by Bowen Grant Funeral Home in Southampton, Pa. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Twining Village retirement community, 280 Middle Holland Road, Holland, PA 18966, where she had resided.
Miriam Koch
Miriam L. Koch, 84, of Annapolis and formerly of Port Washington, N.Y., and Denver, Colo., died Feb. 15, 2002 at the Ginger Cove retirement community after a brief illness.
Mrs. Koch was born Sept. 2, 1917, in Marion, N.Y., the daughter of the late Rev. Wallace McWilliams, the minister of the Dolgeville, N.Y., Presbyterian Church, and the late Augusta MacWilliams. Her parents and older brother Herbert McWilliams all succumbed to cancer in their middle years.
She graduated in 1938 from Wellesley College which she attended on a full scholarship and where she majored in French and Italian. She was a public school teacher in upstate New York when the impending World War II altered her plan and dream of teaching in Paris.
In 1940 she married
Edward Clifford Koch. After moves necessitated by his wartime service as a reserve naval officer, they settled and raised their sons in Long Island, N.Y. A longtime substitute, she taught everything from Latin to shop in Port Washington public schools.
For many years she sang alto in church and civic choirs. She joined her husband in racing their Rhodes 19 sailboat out of the Port Washington Yacht Club, where they were active members. Later they played golf after moving to Denver in 1971.
Mrs. Koch moved to Ginger Cove a few years after her husband died in 1990.
Surviving are two sons, Robert Koch of Galesville and Peter Koch of Setauket, N.Y.; one sister, Helen Crosby of Massena, N.Y.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were private and were handled by Hardesty Funeral Home. Burial will be in Denver at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Office of Resources, Wellesley College, 106 Central St., Wellesley, MA 02481-8203.
Doris Kungis
Doris Annette Kungis, 71, a resident of Annapolis for 46 years and previously of Baltimore, died of cancer April 4, 2002 at her home.
A homemaker, Mrs. Kungis was born July 27, 1930, in Rome, N.Y. She graduated from Forest Park High School in Baltimore in 1948.
Her interests included quilting, gardening and geneaology.
On May 12, 1951, she married
John N. Kungis who died May 1, 2001.
Surviving are two sons, John P. Kungis of Frederick and James M. Kungis of Davidsonville; one daughter, Lynn A. Franks of Salisbury; two brothers, John A. Fitch Jr. of Sykesville and Charles Fitch of Avon, Conn.; three sisters, Lucille Pomraning of Annapolis, Eleanor DeMario of Westminster and Leila Fitch of Catonsville; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, where services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Maryland Veterans cemetery in Crownsville.
Helen Watkins
Helen Viola "Honey" Watkins, 72, of Edgewater, died April 2, 2002 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
Mrs. Watkins was born June 7, 1929, in Annapolis. She was the widow of Clarence "Ed" Watkins and the daughter of the late Alethia and James Colbert.
She attended Anne Arundel County public schools and worked for the school system. She was a member of Mount Olive AME Church and enjoyed shopping as well as working in her flower garden.
Surviving are three sons, James Savoy of Columbia, Clarence Watkins Jr. of Stevensville and Barry Watkins of Pasadena; two stepsons, Elton Snowden and Sylvester Watkins of Annapolis; two daughters, Alethia Reed of Millersville and Regina Dennis of Glen Burnie; 21 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are five brothers, James, Philip and Furman Colbert of Annapolis, Richard Colbert of Glen Arden and Wilton Colbert of Riva; and two sisters, Ida Alexander of Capitol Heights and Lenea Redman of Annapolis.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Monday with a Christian wake at 10:30 a.m. and funeral at 11 a.m. at Mount Olive AME Church, 2 Hicks Ave. Burial will be in Maryland Veterans cemetery in Crownsville. Arrangements are by Reese and Sons Mortuary.
