George Smith Sr.
George Joseph "Smitty" Smith Sr., 66, a resident of Lothian for 23 years, died of cancer April 11, 2002 at the Spa Creek Center, Genesis ElderCare Network after a year-long illness.
Mr. Smith was born on May 16, 1935, in Chicago, Ill., and graduated from the University of Maryland with a master's degree in education.
He served in the Air Force and the Washington Air National Guard, 113th Air Squadron, at Andrews Air Force Base.
He was employed by the Prince George's County Board of Education as a recruitment and placement specialist. Previously he was a teacher at Bladensburg High School.
He was a member of the American Legion Greenbelt Post 136 and Iota Lambda Sigma honorary fraternity at the University of Maryland.
He was also a member of the Maryland Retired Teachers Association and the Prince George's County Retired Teacher's Association.
Mr. Smith enjoyed bowling with several Crofton bowling leagues.
Surviving are his wife, Marlene M. Smith, whom he married
in 1966; his son, George J. Smith Jr. of Valley Lee; his brother, Donald Arnold Smith of Hagerstown; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Maryland Veterans cemetery in Cheltenham. Arrangements are by Kalas Funeral Home in Edgewater.

Helen Wasson
Helen Mac Wasson, 79, of Tracy's Landing, died of lymphoma April 11, 2002 at her home.
Born Nov. 11, 1922, in Beaumont, Texas, Mrs. Wasson lived most of her life in the Washington, D.C., area since her childhood. She was a homemaker.
Her husband, James "Reds" Wasson, died in 1999.
Surviving are two daughters, Carolyn W. Hall of Bethesda and Linda W. Savage of Accokeek; one son, William C. Wasson of Tracy's Landing; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services and burial are private. Arrangements are by Rausch Funeral Home in Owings.
John Ackwood
John "Bunny" Ackwood, 82, of Columbia and previously of Philadelphia, Pa., died of heart failure March 30, 2002 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Baltimore after a six-month illness.
Mr. Ackwood was born in Annapolis on Sept. 10, 1919. He graduated from the former Wiley H. Bates High School in 1938.
During World War II, he served four years in the Army with the 580th Ordnance Company in New Guinea, Luzon and Australia. He earned the Good Conduct Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater ribbon and the Phillipine Liberation ribbon.
After his military service he attended electronics school in New Jersey and a radio and television repairman school in Baltimore. He then worked as an electronics engineer for the federal government.
In April 1948 he married
Evelyn Little Ackwood, who died in November 1989.
Surviving are two sisters, Thelma Parker of Annapolis and Juanita Campbell of Baltimore.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Friday with the Christian wake at 10:30 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. at Reese and Sons Mortuary, 821 West St. Burial will follow in Maryland Veterans cemetery in Crownsville.
Broderick Collinson
Broderick Dylan "Brody" Collinson, 6-year-old son of Michael and Jill Durbin of Shady Side, died of liver failure April 1, 2002 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
Brody was born Sept. 30, 1995, in Annapolis. He had a very rare form of muscular dystrophy. He had previously lived in Harwood, and was homeschooled.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by three sisters, Brianna L. Collinson of Harwood and Brylah C. and Brookanna K. Durbin of Shady Side; his grandparents, Kendall and Anna Collinson of Harwood and Jim and Joanne Durbin of Glen Burnie; and his great-grandmother, Rachel Klatt of Glen Burnie. He was the great-grandson of the late Elizabeth Collinson.
Private arrangements are being handled by Hardesty Funeral Home in Galesville.
Kathryn Cook
Kathryn Mary Cook, infant daughter of Michael and Tanya A. Cook of Severna Park, died of an intestinal tract disorder March 31, 2002 at Children's Hospital in Washington, D.C.
Kathryn was born March 27 in Annapolis.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her grandparents, Christine and Leo Adamski of Wilkes-Barre, Pa., Carol Robin Cook of Severna Park and John S. Cook III of St. Michaels.
A memorial service will be held at 6 tonight at Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church, 611 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd., Severna Park. Burial will be in Phylos cemetery in Westernport. Arrangements are by Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home.

Lucile Dammeyer
Lucile Perry Dammeyer, 95, of Annapolis, a lifelong resident of Anne Arundel County, died April 3, 2002 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
Mrs. Dammeyer was born in Tracys Landing on Feb. 28, 1907, and graduated from Southern High School.
She then attended a beauty academy in Baltimore and worked as a beautician until her marriage in 1928 to Henry J. Dammeyer. Mr. Dammeyer died in 1976.
Mrs. Dammeyer has lived at Sunrise Assisted Living since 1996.
A homemaker, Mrs. Dammeyer was known as a wonderful cook and enjoyed decorating her home and sewing.
She and her family also liked to travel and had been to Ireland and Walt Disney World in Florida.
She is survived by two sons, John H. and Charles William Dammeyer of Annapolis; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St., where the funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery on West Street.
Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
Douglas Eisele
Douglas Paul Eisele, 20, of Odenton, died March 31, 2002 at Anne Arundel Medical Center of complications of lung surgery after a brief illness.
Mr. Eisele was born Oct. 4, 1981, in Woodbury, N.J. He lived his entire life in the Crofton and Odenton areas and was attending Central Special School in Edgewater.
He enjoyed eating, videos and people watching.
Surviving are his mother, Susan Harvey-Eisele of Odenton; one brother, Jason Matthew Eisele of the home; and his grandparents, Charlene Harvey of West Deptford, N.J., and Ronald Pallacovitch of Naugatuck, Conn.
Visitation is from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and tomorrow at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway. A Mass of Christian burial will be said at 11 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of the Fields Catholic Church, 1070 Cecil Ave., Millersville. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
