Kenneth O'Connor
J. Kenneth O'Connor, 89, died April 29, 2002 at Anne Arundel Medical Center of complications of a stroke after a brief illness. He was a six-month resident of Annapolis who previously lived in New Port Richey, Fla.
Mr. O'Connor was born Sept. 30, 1912, in Lackawanna, N.Y. and graduated from Canisius College in Buffalo, N.Y.
He was a supervisor for Bell Aerosystems for many years.
He was an avid golfer and sports enthusiast and enjoyed spending time with friends and family.
Survivors include one daughter, Louise Hanson of Annapolis; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
His wife, Margaret O'Connor, died in 1995. He was the father of the late Suzanne O'Connor-Russo, and the brother of the late Dr. John O'Connor and Charles O'Connor.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. May 11 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 N. Bestgate Road. Burial will be private. Arrangements are by the Kaufman Funeral Home at Meadowridge Memorial Park in Elkridge.

Novyce Barnes
Novyce Addie Young "Dottie" Barnes, 71, died of breast cancer on May 15, 2002 at her home in Davidsonville after a seven-year illness.
Mrs. Barnes was born Dec. 12, 1930, in Franklin, Ga. A homemaker, she lived in Mount Dora, Fla., until her move to Davidsonville two years ago.
She attended Riva Trace Baptist Church.
Mrs. Barnes loved people and gardening, especially flowers.
She is survived by two daughters, Yvonne Ridgeway of Davidsonville and Vickie Krueger of Cookeville, Tenn.; one brother, Al Mashburn of La Grange, Ga.; two sisters, Joan Cantrell of Franklin, Ga., and Mildred Smith of La Grange; and three grandsons.
Her husband, Paul Barnes, died March 3, 2000. She was the sister of the late Ardis Mashburn and Bobbie Forbus.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow. Burial will follow in Lakemont cemetery in Davidsonville.

Judith Mullarky
Judith Ann Mullarky, 61, a four-year resident of Chester, died of cancer May 14, 2002 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a five-year illness.
Born June 29, 1940, in Chicago, Ill., Mrs. Mullarky received her bachelor of science degree from Iowa State University at Ames and her master's degree from Long Beach State University in California.
In 1962, she was married
to Jon J. Mullarky. She lived in Columbia for 27 years prior to her move to Chester. She taught quilting classes at Seminole Sampler in Catonsville and enjoyed needlecrafts and sailing.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Michael J. Mullarky of Pasadena and Robert A. Mullarky of Newport News, Va.; and one brother, Orval "Skip" Lorimor of Wolfeboro Falls, N.H.
Funeral services and interment are private. Arrangements are by the Hardesty Funeral Home.

Grace Oaksmith
Grace Harrison Oaksmith, 81, a lifelong resident of Annapolis, died May 14, 2002 at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore after a brief illness.
Mrs. Oaksmith was an administrative assistant for the Annapolis Recreation and Parks Department for 31 years.
Born Feb. 20, 1921, in Annapolis, she graduated in 1938 from Annapolis High School.
She was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, president of the Edgewater-Parole Homemakers and a member of the Christian Woman's Club, the Auxiliary of West Annapolis Fire Department and the Auxiliary of Anne Arundel Medical Center.
An 18-year breast cancer survivor, Mrs. Oaksmith was the volunteer coordinator of the American Cancer Society's Road to Recovery program. The Capital featured her as a "Volunteer of the Week" on Dec. 2, 2001, for her contributions to the program and other activities.
She enjoyed bowling. Her family was the joy of her life.
On June 28, 1942, she was married
to Alvin E. "Billy" Oaksmith, who died in 1991.
Surviving are two sons, A. Eugene Oaksmith of Bel Air and Sidney G. Oaksmith of Fort Sill, Okla.; two daughters, Barbara O. Smith of Annapolis and Lyn O. Englert of Greensboro, N.C.; one brother, James Harrison of Comden-Wyoming, Del.; one sister, Beth Jarrell of Palm Harbor, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was the sister of the late Billy, Joe and Owens Harrison.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. tonight and tomorrow at Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St. Funeral services wil be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1300 West St. Burial will be in Glen Haven Cemetery.

Nicholas Pellicani
Nicholas Richard Pellicani, 86, of Rockland, Maine, died May 10, 2002 in Severna Park. For the last seven months he had lived with his son, Paul Pellicani, in Severna Park where he also visited frequently over the years.
Born and educated in Rockland, Mr. Pellicani graduated from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, and served in the Navy as a lieutenant junior grade during World War II. A chemist by training, he worked in the field of procuring and processing seaweed.
While in this area, he enjoyed attending basketball games which his son coached at Severna Park High School and in which his two grandsons played.
Also surviving are two daughters, Linda McClane of Annapolis and Susan Pellicani of Bath, Maine. His wife of 50 years, Eleanor Barnes, died in 1995.
A memorial service will be held in June at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Rockland, where arrangements are by Burpee, Carpenter and Hutchins Funeral Home.

Hester Pepper
Hester Laning Pepper, 95, died May 12, 2002 at Waverly Heights, a retirment community in Gladwyne, Pa., after a lengthy illness.
Born in Annapolis, Mrs. Pepper was the daughter of the late Navy Adm. and Mrs. Harris Laning.
She attended schools in Washington, D.C., Newport, R.I. and Santa Barbara, Cal., studying art at the Moore College of Art in Philadelphia and becoming an accomplished portrait artist.
After her marriage in 1938 to Dr. D. Sergeant Pepper, she lived in Philadelphia where she was a member and sustainer of the Junior League of Philadelphia. She was also a member of the Junior League of Hartford, Conn., where she lived from 1952 to 1973.
While in Hartford, she was a trustee of the Goodspeed Opera House Foundation that restored the opera house on the Connecticut River in East Haddam.
Committed to organizations that aided the blind, she was chairman of the Ladies Visiting Committee of the Connecticut Institute for the Blind and chaired the Benefits Committee for the Oak Hill School for the Blind. She was a member of the board of directors of the Volunteer Services for the Blind, now the Associated Services for the Blind.
In 1976, she founded and became president of National Exhibits by Blind Artists, through which works by blind artists have been shown throughout this country and abroad. In 1994, she was awarded the Louis Braille Award of the Associated Service for the Blind for her work.
She was a member of the Society of Sponsors of the U.S. Navy and a life member of the Naval War College Foundation. She was also a member of the Descendants of the Founders of Norwich, Conn., the historical societies of both Connecticut and Philadelphia, the National Society of Colonial Dames of America in Pennsylvania, the Acorn Club and the Merion Cricket Club.
Survivors include one daughter, Laning Pepper Thompson of Annapolis; two sons, H.L. Perry Pepper of Gladwyne and T. Sergeant Pepper of Haverford, Pa.; and seven grandchildren. Her husband died in 1982.
Services will be at 1 p.m. tomorrow at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Bryn Mawr, Pa.
