Rose Anne Mitchell
Rose Anne Bell Mitchell, 59, of Annapolis, died of cancer May 25, 2002 at her home after a five-month illness.
Mrs. Mitchell was born Nov. 9, 1942, and raised in Fennelton, Pa., and graduated in 1960 from Butler, Pa., High School. She worked at Chick-Fil-A at the Annapolis mall for 10 years and was the top sales person for the company and employee of the month for the mall.
She was secretary of the Maryland Chapter of the Family Camping and Hiking Association, and a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority. She enjoyed camping, reading and travel.
Surviving are her husband, George Mitchell; two sons, Matthew Mitchell of Chester and Michael Mitchell of Annapolis; two brothers, Jim and Larry Bell of Butler; and one grandson.
She was the mother of the late Stacy Ann Mitchell and the sister of the late Gordon and Richard Bell.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, where services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Jennie Smart
Jennie K, Smart, 84, of Annapolis, died of complications of heart failure on May 26, 2002 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
Born Aug. 18, 1917, in Brooklyn, N.Y., Mrs. Smart was raised in Annapolis. She had lived at the Glen-wood Senior High Rise for the past 20 years where she was a volunteer, receiving distinguished achievement awards for her services.
A military wife and homemaker, she lived in many places before settling in Eastport 35 years ago.
Mrs. Smart was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church. She enjoyed crafts including ceramics, dancing and cooking.
Her husband, Soanie D. Smart, died in 2000.
Mrs. Smart is survived by her son, Douglas Olivares of Honolulu, Hawaii; four daughters, S. Darlene Woodhurst of Centreville, Cecilia O. Petree of Arlington, Va., and Patricia McFarland and Davene Nelson, both of Fort Myers, Fla.; two sisters, Rose Parker of Annapolis and Antoinette Lunsford of National City, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Hardesty Funeral Home, 12 Ridgely Ave. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Calvary United Methodist Church, 301 Rowe Blvd. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Steven Whetzel
Steven B. Whetzel, 44, a longtime resident of Mayo, died May 26, 2002 at Anne Arundel Medical Center from complications associated with diabetes after a six-year illness.
Mr. Whetzel was born Feb. 25, 1958, in Annapolis. He was a carpenter most of his life and a waterman in his spare time. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, crabbing and being on the water.
Surviving are two children, Josh and Melissa Whetzel of Lothian; his parents, Charlie and Louise Whetzel of Mayo; and two brothers, Jeff Whetzel of St. Mary's County and Kevin Whetzel of Davidsonville.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. tomorrow at Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Anne Arundel Medical Center Acute Care Unit, 2001 Medical Parkway, Annapolis, MD 21401.
Andrew Beall
Andrew Joseph "Andy" Beall, 68, a 25-year-resident of Annapolis, died at Riva Terrace II, an assisted living facility, after a long illness.
Born in Washington, D.C., he graduated from Gonzaga College High School.
He was a member of the Prince George's County police force, retiring in 1984. He was also a national trustee of the Fraternal Order of Police representing Prince George's County.
He served in the National Guard.
His hobbies were woodworking, reading, boating and watching the Redskins.
Survivors include one son, Andrew Beall of Grasonville; four daughters, Deborah Eherenman of Arnold, Theresa Vitielliss of Annapolis, Victoria Chisholm of Severna Park and Kimberly Esterson of Annapolis. His marriage to Dolores Beall ended in divorce.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. A funeral Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. Friday at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 N. Bestgate Road, Annapolis. Burial will be in Lakemont Memorial gardens in Davidsonville.

Betty Davis
Betty Lou Davis, 76, of Mayo, died of natural causes May 27, 2002 at her home.
Mrs. Davis was born in Chicago, Ill., and graduated from George Washington High School in 1944. She retired from working in the Safeway meat department in Hyattsville.
She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Post 226 in Mayo. She enjoyed playing bingo and cards and collected Hummel figures and dolls.
On June 15, 1944, she married
Shell C. Davis Jr., a co-founder of the John C. Flood Inc. Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning Co. of Washington, D.C. Mr. Davis died in 2001.
Surviving are four sons, Shell C. Davis III and Stanley L. Davis of Mayo and Melville R. and Robert C. Davis of Edgewater; two daughters, Rena Fallon of Gainesville, Fla., and Lucy Miller of Key West, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Visitation is from 7 to 9 tonight and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Hardesty Funeral Home, 12 Ridgely Ave., where services will be at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Lakemont cemetery in Davidsonville.

James Gill
Services for Dr. James Paul Gill, 80, a retired dentist and resident of Warwick, R.I., were held May 25, 2002 at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Warwick. Burial was in Rhode Island Veterans cemetery in Exeter.
Dr. Gill died May 22 at Kent County Memorial Hospital in Warwick as the result of a fall.
He attended Providence College. During World War II and the Korean War, he was a first lieutenant in the Army.
In 1947 he graduated from the University of Maryland Dental School in Baltimore. He spent a year in the U.S. Public Health Service and practiced dentistry in Warwick from 1948 until his retirement in 1984, interrupted only by his service as an Army dentist during the Korean conflict.
His interests included golf, swimming, reading and history.
He is survived by his wife, Marie E. Hutchins; four sons, Steven Gill of Annapolis, Thomas Gill of Livermore, Calif., Richard Gill of Cambridge, Mass., and Matthew Gill of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and four grandchildren.
