LOGAN M. GETZ
Logan M. Getz, infant son of Timothy J. and April D. (Slaubaugh) Getz of Cumberland, died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2007, at the Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by one sister, Angelica Getz; five brothers, Christopher, Dakota, Dylan, Andrew, and Nathaniel Getz, all at home; maternal grandparents Samuel and Shirley (Thomas) Slaubaugh, Bayard, W.Va.; maternal great-grandmother June Thomas, Oakland; and paternal grandparents Peter and Nancy (Rodeheaver) Getz, Gormania, W.Va.
Friends will be received today, Feb. 15, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland.
A service will be held at the Mount Storm United Methodist Church on Friday at 2 p.m., with Rev. Loren Metzner and Rev. Mary Ratliff officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to services.
Interment will be in the Bayard Cemetery, Bayard.
ROSE E. HENDRICKSON
Rose Ella Hendrickson, 84, of Cumberland died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2007, at the Lions Center.
Born Nov. 2, 1922 in Grantsville, she was a daughter of the late Gurney and Dessie (Pierce) Spiker. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Edward R. Hendrickson, in 2005.
She graduated from Grantsville High School. She was retired from the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company, where she had been a piece worker. She was also a member of Potomac Park United Methodist Church, the Senior Citizens Bowling League, and AARP.
She is survived by her two sons, Lloyd F. "John" Hendrickson of Rawlings and Edward R. "Skip" Hendrickson of Cresaptown; two daughters, Sharon L. Gregory of Cumberland, and Debra S. Cowgill of Short Gap, W.Va.; one brother, Hubert Spiker, of Grantsville; one sister, Shirley Liptak, of Ohio; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Cumberland, where a service was conducted this morning, with the Rev. Harold Shaffer officiating.
Interment was in Sunset Memorial Park.

DOLORES A. GNEGY
Dolores Airesman Gnegy, 74, of Somerset, Pa., died Monday, Feb. 12, 2007, in Johnstown, Pa.
Born on January 29, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Clark "Curly" and Ida (Faidley) Airesman. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Roy, Ray, and Floyd Airesman; and three sisters, Katherine Gardner, Arlene June Airesman, and Gloria Jean Airesman.
She is survived by husband Merlin L. Gnegy, to whom she was married 37 years; two sons, Kevin Gnegy of Duncansville, Pa. and Steven Barron of Edie, Pa.; four stepdaughters, Linda Stahlman of Fairmont City, Pa., Debra Hoffman of Fountain Inn, S.C., Beverly Whited of Russell, Pa., and Susan Coughenour of Berlin, Pa.; one sister, Shirley Brocht of Casselman, Pa.; 14 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Robert H. Halverson Funeral Home, Somerset, on Friday, Feb. 16, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
A service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Sipesville Church of the Brethren, Sipesville, Pa.
Interment will be in Sipesville Cemetery.
EVA K. ROSIER
Eva Katherine "Murph" Rosier, 88, of Bloomington died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2007, at Braddock Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Nov. 18, 1918, in Bloomington, she was a daughter of the late Tom and Eva (Warnick) McDowell. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Charles "Cotton" Warnick; her second husband, Garland Rosier; two sons, Mike Warnick and Charles "Chuck" Warnick; a grandson; a brother, Rev. George McDowell Sr.; and a sister, Eleanor Arnold.
She was retired from Westvaco Corp., having worked in the finishing room. She was also a member of Piedmont Pentecostal Holiness Church, Piedmont, W.Va.
She is survived by three daughters, Carol Riley and Beverly Lipscomb, both of Bloomington, and Sandra Buckley of Clear Spring; one brother, Don McDowell of Lions Manor Nursing Home, Cumberland; a twin sister, Edna "Dowell" Kooken of Denton; eight grandchildren; 16 great- grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Friday, Feb. 16, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., where a service will be held on Saturday, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Thomas Brackett and the Rev. Donald Nelson officiating.
Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery, Oakland.
In lieu of flowers, memorials contributions may be directed to the Piedmont Pentecostal Holiness Church or the Tri-Towns Rescue Squad.
JAMES E. McEWUEN
James Edward McEwuen, 82, Morgantown, W.Va., (Brookhaven) died on Friday, Feb. 9, 2007, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, after a short illness.
Born on Oct. 12, 1924, in Weston, W.Va., he was the only child of the late Edward and Lena (Cannon) McEwuen.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the 6th Army Group in Africa, Sicily, Italy, Germany, and France.
He moved to Morgantown with his family in 1956 to work as an engineer and announcer at radio station WCLG. He returned to Lewis County in 1961, where he worked as the chief engineer to build the stationhouse for WJPB-TV Channel 5 (now WDTV) and then to launch the station. He worked at the station as engineer, newscaster, and cameraman for three years. He returned to Morgantown in 1963 and was hired as an electronics technician at WVU Hospitals, and then as a civilian employee of the U.S. Navy, also in the field of electronics. He retired from the Navy position in December 1985, but continued work as a teacher for the Monongalia County Schools Adult Education program at M-TEC, where he taught Introduction to Computers for 23 years, retiring in May 2006.
James was an amateur ("ham") radio operator (W8GUL), and a member of the Monongalia Wireless Association (MWA). He was also a member of the Navy MARS (Military Affiliate Radio System), an organization of hams who provide auxiliary communication for Navy personnel. In this organization, he held positions of training officer, emergency communications officer, West Virginia state director, and district emergency communications officer for the fourth Navy MARS District, which included eight states and the District of Columbia. He remained active in Navy MARS up to his death, serving for more than 43 years. He also served the area's ARES (Amateur Radio Emergency Service) for as many years.
The MWA named him the Amateur of the Year in 1981 and '82, and he was chosen as the West Virginia Amateur of the Year for 1989.
After the flood of 1985 which affected much of West Virginia, he became the Monongalia County flash flood coordinator for the Integrated Flood Observance and Warning System (INFLOWS), launched by Sen. Robert Byrd. He collected rainfall data for the project for several years.
As a member of Partners of the Americas, a private international organization, James worked with West Virginia University personnel in an effort to build cooperation between states in North and South America. He communicated with individuals in South America on a regular basis, and in 1991, the Partners organization sent him to Brazil to share information about flood mitigation.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Alice (Dessent) McEwuen; one daughter, Mary Faye McEwuen Williams and husband Greer Williams, Helena, Mont.; three sons, Richard McEwuen and wife Sherry, and Charles McEwuen and wife Sylvia, all of Morgantown, and John McEwen and wife Mary, Oakland; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
Cremation services were provided by Hastings Funeral Home, Morgantown, where a visitation and service were held on Tuesday.

HAYWARD P. BEITZEL
Hayward Paul "John" Beitzel, 69, of Amish Road, Grantsville, died Wednesday, April 18, 2007, at WMHS, Braddock Campus, Cumberland.
Born Dec. 17, 1937, at Jennings, he was the son of the late Warren and Alice (Durst) Beitzel. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Patty Beitzel; two brothers, Darrell "Jake" Beitzel and Kermit Beitzel; and one sister, Catherine Shank.
Mr. Beitzel was employed as a roads construction worker for Laborers' Union 616. He was a graduate of Northern Garrett High School, class of 1957, and a member of the Jennings United Methodist Church. John was a NASCAR fan, and he felt that the greatest driver was Dale Earnhardt.
He is survived by his wife Margaret Elizabeth (Miller) Beitzel; three sons, John Beitzel and wife Arlene, Accident, Todd Beitzel and wife Sherry, Rawlings, and Steven Beitzel and wife Jenny, Grantsville; four daughters, Robin Durst and husband Danny, Connie Augustine, Jody Wilburn, all of Grantsville, and Christy Miller and husband John, Accident; two brothers, Gary Beitzel and wife Betty, Grantsville, and Ron Beitzel and wife Sherry, Cumberland; one sister, Delores Brown and husband, Bill, Hagerstown, Maryland; 22 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, where a service was held Saturday, April 21, with the Rev. George Plants officiating. Interment was in the Bittinger Cemetery.

MAE LOUISE NICHOLSON
Mae Louise (Shillingburg) Nicholson, 76, Oakland, died Sunday, April 22, 2007, at the Garrett County Memorial Hospital.
Born May 31, 1930 in Oakland, she was the daughter of the late Emory & Bessie (Steyer) Shillingburg. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Wayne Nicholson, and by her brother, Lloyd Shillingburg.
Surviving are two sons, Wayne Nicholson, Oakland, and W. James Nicholson, Mechanicsville; one daughter, Wanda Bren-singer, Mechanicsville; one brother, Lee Shillingburg, Oakland; one sister, Hazel Burton, LaPlata; seven grandchildren, Daniel and wife Laura of Culpeper, Va., Brian and wife Adrienne of Bentonville, Va., Paul and wife Amanda of Herndon, Va., Jennifer, Crystal and Robert Bren-singer, all of Mechanicsville, and Candace Nicholson of Lexington Park.
Also surviving are great-grandchildren Darby, Kyle, Catherine, Mackenzie, Stephanie, and Teresa Nich-olson, and Sebastian, Armani, Enya, Titus Calo and Kaleb Russell; and special friend Peggy Riley.
Friends were received at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, Oakland. A funeral service was conducted on Wednesday, April 25, at White Church, with the Rev. Joe Robinette officiating. Interment followed in the White Church Cemetery.
DAVID N. SHAFFER
David Nordeck Shaffer, 53, Oakland, died Sunday, April 22, 2007, at the Garrett County Memorial Hospital.
Born August 26, 1953, in Oakland, he was a son of Q. Nordeck and Stella (Leigh-ton) Shaffer.
David was an attorney. He was a graduate of Oakland High School and Bridgewater College, and graduated from law school in Baltimore. He was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.
Surviving in addition to his parents are is his half- brother Richard "Butch" Helbig and wife Carolyn and their children of Oakland; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
At David's request, his body was donated for the advancement of medicine and then will be cremated. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
Expressions of sympathy may be made in his name to the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Hospice of Garrett County, the Southern Garrett Rescue Squad, or to a charity of one's choice.

THELMA J. GROVE
Thelma June Grove, 85, Friendsville, died Monday, April 23, 2007, at WMHS, Braddock Campus, Cumberland.
Born March 27, 1922, in Selbysport, she was the daughter of the late A. Donald and Orpha B. (Fike) Frazee. She was also preceded in death by one brother, N. Donald Frazee, and two sisters, Izetta McKenzie and Olive Grove.
Mrs. Grove attended the Selbysport United Methodist Church and was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Floyd E. Grove; two sons, F. Allen Grove and wife Anna Mae, Fort Hill, Pa.; and Terry R. Grove and wife Donna J., Friendsville; one brother, Glenn Frazee, Friendsville; two sisters, Claudine Vitez and Faye Humberson, both of Friendsville; four grandchildren, Beth Ann Grove, Joshua Grove and wife Melinda, Terry Grove and wife Kara, and Jamie Grove; and four great grandchildren, Grant Grove, Kate Grove, Katherine Grove, and Jackson Grove.
Friends were received at Newman Funeral Home, Friendsville, where a service was conducted this morning, April 26, with Pastor Daymond Schmuck officiating. Interment will be in Addison (Pa.) Cemetery.
