Rita Slafkosky
Rita A. Slafkosky, 67, of Annapolis, died May 31, 2002, at her home of CJD after a brief illness.
Mrs. Slafkosky was born July 10, 1934 in Allentown, Pa. She graduated from Central Catholic High School and the Sacred Heart Hospital School of Nursing there.
As a military spouse, in addition to Maryland, she lived in Mississippi, Georgia, Ohio, Massachusetts, Virginia and Germany.
While home and family were her highest vocation, she worked as a registered nurse in Pennsylvania, Mississippi, Virginia and Maryland.
She was an active member in the Red Cross as both a volunteer and a nursing instructor. She participated in Religious Education Programs and held offices in the Catholic Women of the Chapel and also served as a Lay Eucharistic Minister and Lector.
She is survived by her husband, Alexander R. Slafkosky; two sons, Lt. Col. Thomas Slafkosky, enroute to Korea, and David Slafkosky of the home; one daughter, Amy Fernandez of San Diego; two brothers, Paul Farnschlader of Media, Pa. and Albert Farnschlader of Barto, Pa.; and seven grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at The George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Andrew By The Bay Catholic Church, 701 College Parkway, Annapolis. Burial will be at 1 p.m. on June 25, at Arlington National cemetery in Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, contributions should be sent to the church or charity of your choice.
James Bates
A memorial service will take place at 7 tonight at Stallings Funeral Home, 3111 Mountain Road in Pasadena, for James S. Bates, 60, of Cape St. Claire.
Mr. Bates died June 11, 2002 at Anne Arundel Medical Center from injuries incurred when his automobile hit a telephone pole on Pleasant Plains Road near his home that day.
A Maryland resident for 55 years, he was born in Durham, N.C., on Oct. 17, 1941. He was a 1959 graduate of Suitland High School. He served in the Army in the early 1960s.
He was a heavy equipment operator for the Weller Construction Co. in Annapolis.
Mr. Bates enjoyed building and working with his hands.
Surviving are his daughter, Tina Bates of San Francisco, Calif.; three brothers, Wiley E. and Robert J. Bates of Pasadena and Charles R. Bates of Sarasota, Fla.; and two sisters, Betty J. Bennett of Mayo and Barbara A. Rutledge of Edgewater. He was the brother of the late William K. Bates.
Burial will be private.
Patricia Hunt
Patrician Ann Hunt, 60, who lived in Severna Park for 31 years, died of cancer June 11, 2002 at her home after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Hunt was born July 29, 1941, in Washington, D.C., the daughter of Hester E. and Martin V. Proctor Sr. of Gambrills. She attended the former Wiley H. Bates High School and Bowie State University.
She worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years in various positions in the Annapolis and Baltimore offices, including as postmaster of the Riva branch and supervisor of address management in Baltimore. Mrs. Hunt also was a shop steward of the union of postal workers.
She enjoyed shopping, sewing, the beach and basking in the sun as well as spending time with her family.
On Sept. 26, 1959, she was married
to Isaiah Clinton Hunt.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is survived by three daughters, Yvette M. Dofat of Severna Park, Lorena M. Coleman of Annapolis and Crystal A. Hood of Severn; four brothers, Martin V. Proctor Jr. of Austin, Texas, T. Marvin Proctor of Glen Burnie, J. Daniel Proctor of Gambrills and J. David Proctor of Hagerstown; one sister, Diane E. Martin of Severn; and 10 grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Miller Metropolitan Chapel, 1922 Forest Drive. A funeral Mass will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 N. Bestgate Road. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Scleroderma Research Foundation, 2320 Bath St., Suite 315, Santa Barbara, CA 93105, noted "Donated in memory of Patricia Ann Hunt."
George Way
George Henry Way Jr., 72, of Davidsonville, a retired executive with the Association of American Railroads, died June 10, 2002 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
Born May 29, 1930, in Wheeling, W.Va., Mr. Way grew up in Elizabeth, N.J., where he graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School. He received an engineering degree with honors from Princeton University in 1952.
He served in the Army's transportation corps during the Korean conflict.
His career in railroading began in 1954 with the Pennsylvania Railroad engineering department. He moved to the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad where he was a research engineer from 1966 to 1973 when he joined the Association of American Railroads as assistant vice president. From 1985 until his retirement in 1992, he was a vice president in charge of research and testing.
He was a trustee of the First Presbyterian Church of Annapolis and a member of American Legion Post 7 in Annapolis. He was involved with many historical railroad associations and was twice chairman of the American Railway Engineering Association. He was a fellow of the Permanent Way Institution of Great Britain.
He had an extensive train display set up in his home and enjoyed building, collecting and running the scale model trains. His other hobbies were photography, stamp collecting and growing and tending roses.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Genevieve "Gene" Way; one son, Lawrence C. Way of Middletown in Frederick County; and one grandson.
Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. June 25 at Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, where the memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. Burial is private.

Rosalie Lohrmann
Rosalie "Rose" Shirley Lohrmann, 63, died of renal cell cancer June 14, 2002 at her Pasadena home after a lengthy illness.
Born July 15, 1938, in Cumberland, Mrs. Lohrmann moved with her family to Baltimore and attended Anne Arundel County public schools.
In 1954 she was a switchboard operator for the former Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Co. in Brooklyn.
In 1963 she began working for the Greater Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co. food store and was promoted to head cashier, working at the Sun Valley, Severna Park and Bay Hills stores.
She retired in the early 1990s because of her illness.
Originally diagnosed in 1982 with renal cell cancer, she had surgery to removed the diseased kidney. She overcome challenges and in the early 1990s at the behest of a patients' advocacy group, she testified before Congress on the subject of injectable medicines given at home. Her testimony helped propel passage of a bill expanding federal insurance coverage for such injections, reducing the need for doctor and hospital visits.
She enjoyed oil and tole painting, other arts and crafts, and camping.
Mrs. Lohrmann was an active member of Anchor Baptist Church in Millersville.
She is survived by her husband Vernon E. Lohrmann Sr. whom she married
in 1955; three sons, Vernon E. Lohrmann Jr. of Pasadena, Stephen D. Lohrmann of Towson, and Jeffrey L. Lohrmann of Pasadena; two sisters, Nancy Blue Rogall of Baltimore and Priscilla A. "Pat" Guy of Annapolis; two brothers, Robert Smith of Severna Park and Harry W. Smith of Denton; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was the sister of Delores M. Harris-Hood who died in 1992.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 and 9 p.m. tomorrow at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Anchor Baptist Church, with burial in Glen Haven Cemetery.

George Way
A memorial service for George Henry Way, 72, of Davidsonville, will be held at 1 p.m. June 25, 2002 at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater.
