Sidney McCready
Thomas Sidney McCready, 96, of Annapolis, died of natural causes June 27, 2002 at Skyway Manor in Annapolis.
Born April 17, 1906, in Lusby, Mr. McCready attended school in Calvert County. He served as a private in the Army during World War II.
He did sheet metal work at the former Naval Experimental Station in Annapolis.
In 1933 he married
Louise D. McCready who died in 1999.
Surviving are his caregivers, Dale Schenk and Jane Baxter of Annapolis, many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Springfield Presbyterian Church cemetery in Sykesville. Arrangements are by John M.Taylor Funeral Home.
Ethel Reid
Ethel S. Reid, 93, a longtime resident of Shady Side and Huntingtown, died June 27, 2002 at Solomons Nursing Center in Solomons Island.
Born and raised in New York City, she was educated in the city public schools. She moved to Washington, D., C. in the late 1920s and to Shady Side in the early 1950s.
A homemaker, she enjoyed cooking, baking and tending the family dogs.
Survivors include four sons, B. Andrew Reid of Prince Frederick, W. Dennis Reid of Manassas, Va., Edwin C. Reid of Shady Side and John A. Reid of Huntingtown.
She was the widow of William Jennings Bryan Reid.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. tomorrow at the Rausch Funeral Home, 8325 Mount Harmony Lane, Owings, where the funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill cemetery in Suitland.

Melvine Schuh
Services for Melvine Catherine Schuh, 77, were held June 26, 2002 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Severna Park where she had lived for four years.
Mrs. Schuh died of a stroke June 17 at North Arundel Hospital.
Born Jan. 13, 1925, and raised in Baltimore, she married
her high school sweetheart, Matt Schuh, in 1947. They lived in Huntington, W.Va., and Akron, Ohio, while he was working for the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad and retired to Florida.
Mr. Schuh died six years ago.
Surviving are a daughter, Christine Marie Schuh Lilly of Crownsville; one son, Wayne Schuh of Bryn Mawr, Pa.; one brother, Jack Baumiller of Cumberland; and four grandchildren.
Burial was private. Arrangements were by Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home.
Roger Carroll
Roger Lee Carroll of Bowie died June 28, 2002. The cause of death was not available.
Mr. Carroll is survived by one sister, Shelva J. Barr of Bowie and one brother, Roy N. Carroll of Spring Hill, Fla.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the Davidsonville United Methodist Church, 819 West Central Ave. on Route 214. Interment is private.
Arrangements are by Evans Funeral Home, Bowie.

John DeWilde
John E. DeWilde, 90, a retired budget director for the U.S. Agency for International Development and a resident of Annapolis since 1980, died of natural causes June 28, 2002 at the Ginger Cove Health Center.
Mr. DeWilde was born in Holland, Mich., on May 7, 1912. He received a bachelor's degree from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo in 1934 and later did graduate work at Michigan State University and the John Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies in Washington, D.C.
He was a social worker in Michigan until 1942 when he went to work for the federal government. He served in various management positions, including as deputy director of budget and finance for the Offfice of High Commissioner for Germany after World War II.
Subsequently. he was controller and then U.S. AID representative to Israel and later in India. He retired as chief of the agency's budget division in 1970.
During his time in Germany, he developed an investment program for blocked German marks which greatly aided German postwar economic development.
In 1962 he developed an investment program for U.S.- owned Israel funds that aided a major university construction program.
He received the Meritorious Service Honor Award in 1955 from the Foreign Operations Administration in Washington.
He enjoyed sailing, golf, music and art.
Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Marjorie DeWilde; his son, John Richard DeWilde of Washington, D.C.; three brothers, Fred, Robert and William DeWilde, all of Holland, Mich.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be private. Arrangements are by Taylor Funeral Home.
Mary Katherine Forand
Mary Katherine Forand, 79, of Millersville, died of a brain aneurysm June 29, 2002 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a three-week illness.
Born Dec. 21, 1922, in Buffalo, N.Y., and raised in Boston, Mass., Mrs. Forand was a houseboat resident on Rock Creek in Pasadena before moving to Millersville 20 years ago. She worked as an administrative assistant to the media services director of the county public schools.
She enjoyed Bible study, spending time at the beach and being an active spectator at the athletic and academic endeavors of her grandchildren.
The widow of Elmer Forand, she is survived by one daughter, Pamela Neubert of Annapolis; one son, William Forand of Towson; one sister, Teresa Clemens of Des Moines, Iowa; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Severna Park. Burial will be private. Arrangements are by Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home.

Vernon Gingell
Vernon Ragan Gingell, 82, a retired engineer who helped to design several Washington-area airports, died July 2, 2002 at his home in Fairhaven.
Born Feb. 17, 1920, and raised in Washington, D.C., Mr. Gingell was the only son of the late Frank Vernon and Maude Beatrice Ragan Gingell. He attended McKinley Technical High School, where he served in the cadet corps, and received an engineering degree from the University of Maryland in 1942.
He began his career with the Army Corp of Engineers and then spent 25 years with the Federal Aviation Agency where he became chef engineer for the Bureau of National Capital Airports. He was actively involved in the planning and design of Dulles International and Reagan National airports.
In 1965 he joined Dewberry and Davis in Fairfax, Va., as a partner and specialist in airport planning and design. He acquired his private pilot's license during this time and personally flew to all of his projects. He retired to Fairhaven in 1983.
Mr. Gingell was a member of the American Society of Professional Engineers, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, the South County Environmental Commission, the Owensville Primary Care board of directors, the Fairhaven Sailing Club and the West River Sailing Club.
An avid sailor, he raced Chesapeake 20's, Penguins and Star sailboats. He had a lifetime passion for the bay and all of its surroundings.
Mr. Gingell also volunteered as a football coach, Scoutmaster and in the community. He also contributed several letters to the editor at The Capital.
Surviving are his companion of 18 years, Constance Marie Christensen; one daughter, Debra Ellen Gingell of Fairhaven; one son, Terry Lee Gingell of Houston, Texas; and four grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Rausch Funeral Home, Mount Harmony Lane, Owings. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
