Hugh Murray
Retired Navy Capt. Hugh Q. "Fid" Murray, 89, of Alexandria, Va., and formerly of Annapolis, died of cancer June 25, 2002 at home after a brief illness.
Capt. Murray was born in Newnan, Ga., on Oct. 29, 1912, and graduated in 1934 from the Naval Academy where he was captain of the football team in 1933.
After graduation, he served as graduate manager of athletics at the academy and later as duty officer at Bancroft Hall.
His 30-year naval career found him stationed on battleships, destroyers, amphibious ships and cruisers. He had four command tours with the last being the USS Norfolk.
After retiring from the Navy in 1964, he worked for the United Fruit Co. in Holland, where he was assistant to the president of the European division; in Boston, Mass., where he worked in personnel; and in Washington, D.C., where he was the company liaison to Congress.
On April 21, 1941, he was married
to the former Dorothy Gregg of Los Angeles.
Also surviving are three children, Gregory Murray of Wilmington, Del., Christopher Murray of Alexandria, Va., and Marisa Brazelton of Raleigh, N.C.; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. July 10 at the Naval Academy Chapel.
Cynthia Davis
Cynthia Roberta Holmes Davis, 62, of Annapolis, died July 3, 2002 at her home.
Born in Annapolis, she graduated from Wiley G. Bates High School in 1958. She was a member of the majorettes, cheerleading squad and basketball team. She played the saxophone in the marching band.
She worked for 30 years for the Department of the Army at Fort George G. Meade and during that time recived numerous awards for her work. These included a Commander's Award for Outstanding Service for Civilian Service, a Certificate of Achievement in support of the Korean War efforts and recognition for overall exceptional and sustained superior performance.
During her career she had several temporary duties at various civilian laboratory sites attached to the Air Force.
She was a longtime member of Asbury United Methodist Church and sang in the I.R. Berry Chancel Choir.
Her home was the scene of many family gatherings and celebrations.
Survivors include one daughter, Elzena L. Holmes-Barnes; two granddaughters; one great-grandson; one brother, Walter L. Holmes Jr. of Annapolis; and two sisters, Gloria Johnson of Washington, D.C., and Shielda M. Holmes of Baltimore.
She was the sister of the late Frederick D. Holmes and the daughter of the late Frances Elzena and Walter Lee Holmes.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Asbury Church, 87 West St., Annapolis. Burial will be private. Arrangements are by Reese and Sons Mortuary.

Janice Dignan
Janice E. Dignan, 75 of Brooksville, Fla., died July 5, 2002 at the Brooksville Healthcare Center.
Mrs. Dignan was a native of Cumberland and lived in Annapolis before moving to Florida 22 years ago. She was a retired insurance agent.
Survivors include her husband, Donald Dignan; three sons, Alan Dignan of Plant City, Fla., David Dignan of Thurmont, and Kerry Dignan of Brooksville; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Barbara Ganley
Barbara Praley Ganley, 64, died July 4, 2002 at her home in Millersville, of a brain tumor after a four-month illness.
A lifelong resident of Millersville, Mrs. Ganley was born Aug. 23, 1937. She was a graduate of Glen Burnie High School.
Mrs. Ganley was employed as secretary to the director of personnel at the National Security Agency.
She was a gourmet cook and enjoyed word games and crossword puzzles.
She is survived by her husband, William P. Ganley; three brothers, Edward Praley Sr. and Albert Praley of Glen Burnie and Frank Praley Jr. of Hanover; and two sisters Dolores Graham of Glen Burnie and Anna Bender of New Orleans, La.
Visitation will be fom 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway.
A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of the Fields Catholic Church, 1070 Cecil Ave., Millersville. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Edna Nutwell
Edna P. Nutwell, 78, a lifelong resident of Deale, died July 4, 2002 at Spa Creek Center, Genesis ElderCare Network due to complications of a brain aneurysm.
Born on the family farm, known as Loch Eden, Miss Nutwell lived there until her illness. She attended the former Tracey's School and graduated from Southern High School in Lothian in 1941.
She did clerical and secretarial work at the former Annapolis Dairy and later at the former Annapolis Utilities Co.
She was a member of Cedar Grove United Methodist Church in Deale where she taught Sunday school for more than 50 years and formerly sang in the choir.
Living on the farm, she helped in the raising of tobacco and garden vegetables.
Survivors include her sister, Emma K. Nutwell of Deale and two brothers, John B. "Bunny" Nutwell Sr., and Reginald "Reggie" Nutwell Sr., both of Deale. She was the daughter of the late M. Fennimore "Fennie" and Edna Sherbert Nutwell and the sister of the late George M. Nutwell Sr., Carl D. Nutwell and Ray C. Nutwell.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the Rausch Funeral Home, 8325 Mount Harmony Lane, Owings where the funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Sherbert cemetery in Deale.
Ralph Pramschufer
Ralph C. Pramschufer, 44, of Venice, Fla., and formerly of Severna Park, died July 4, 2002 in Florida.
Born in Baltimore, Mr. Pramschufer had lived in Florida since 1984, moving from Severna Park.
He had an associate degree in computer engineering from the Tampa Technological Institute.
He worked as a returns material analyst for a manufacturing company and also as a home health nurse.
He was a member of the Venice Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include his wife, Chris Pramschufer; one daughter, Beth Ann Pramschufer; one son, Zachariah "Zach" David, all of Venice; his mother, Julia Pramschufer of Severna Park; one brother, Ronald Pramschufer of Pleasantville, N.Y.; and two sisters, Sharon Beall of Lanham and Betsy Kraning of Annapolis.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Lemon Bay Funeral Home in Venice. The funeral will be at 6 p.m. tomorrow at the Venice Assembly of God Church. Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Palms Memorial Park in Sarasota, Fla.
