John White
John Jeffrey White, 54, died July 26, 2002 at the Gilchrist Center for Hospice Care in Baltimore.
He was born in Baltimore on Dec. 13, 1947. He graduated from Milford Mill High School in 1969, from Catonsville Community College in 1972 and from the University of Maryland at College Park in 1974 with a degree in Industrial Management. He also served in the National Guard from 1970 to 1976.
He worked for the General Services Administration for 17 years and then for the Social Security Administration for 14 years as a facilities manager.
His hobbies included boating and fishing, bicycling and snow and water skiing.
He is survived by his fiancee, Mary Thamert; two sons, Brandon White and Daniel White; his mother, Ella Virginia White; and two sisters, Judith White Anacker-Maas and Susan Hopkins Joslin.
Visitors are welcome from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the Harry H. Witzke's Family Funeral Home, 4112 Old Columbia Pike, Ellicott City. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Episcopal Church, 9120 Frederick Road, Ellicott City. Burial will immediately follow at Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens, 2130 Mount View Road, Marriottsville.
Pattee Glennie
Patricia Ann "Pattee" Glennie, 73, an artist who enjoyed working in acrylics and a resident of Annapolis for 25 years, died of pancreatic cancer July 27, 2002 at her home after a five-month illness.
Mrs. Glennie was born Sept. 28, 1928, in Montclair, N.J., and received her bachelor of arts degree in 1951 from the University of Maryland.
Formerly of Bethesda, she taught adults and children at the American Art Associates in Potomac, and at adult education classes in Montgomery County. She assisted in the refurbishment of the Turkish Embassy in Washington, D.C., and in the production of the official White House Christmas card in 1968.
An art instructor in the seniors' program at Anne Arundel Community College, Mrs. Glennie also taught art appreciation for many years at the Heritage Harbour community, where students created a mural at its indoor swimming pool. An article appeared in October 1998 about their accomplishments.
She was past president of the Annapolis Alumni chapter of Phi Mu Sorority and a member of the Maryland Federation of Art and the Annapolis Watercolor Club. She served as a Neighborhood Watch block captain and was a supporter of Quiet Waters Park and Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts.
On Sept. 18, 1954, she was married
to Fred Page Glennie, former chief financial officer and controller of Capital-Gazette newspapers.
Besides her husband, she is survived by one son, W. Page Glennie of Manassas, Va.; one daughter, Laura Ellen Glennie of Annapolis; one sister, Betty Lou Callie Hawley of Framingham, Mass.; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Taylor Funeral Home Chapel, 147 Duke of Gloucester St. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Amissville United Methodist Church cemetery in Amissville, Va.

Janie Coleman
Janie "Boo" Coleman, 70, an Annapolis resident for 50 years and previously of Christiansburg, Va., died July 27, 2002 at her daughter's home in Annapolis, of complications of diabetes after an illness of several years.
Mrs. Coleman was born in Elliston, Va., on July 3, 1932. In addition to being a homemaker, she was known as a community caregiver.
She was a member of the First Christian Community Church, Mothers Against Drunk Drivers, the Fireman's Fund and the Negro College Fund.
Mrs. Coleman enjoyed soap operas, yard sales and talking with family and friends.
Surviving is her husband of 52 years, Ernest Coleman; three sons, Ernest Coleman Jr., Michael Coleman and David Coleman, all of Annapolis; three daughters, Betty Pindell of Annapolis, Emma Elder of Baltimore and Debruoh Taylor of Severn; her mother, Virginia Chapman of Odenton; three brothers, Sydney Hopkins of Columbus, Ohio, Conrad Hopkins of Christiansburg and James Chapman of Annapolis; four sisters, Anna Margaret Coffman of Columbus and Maxine Tucker, Nathalie Chapman and Carolyn Chapman, all of Annapolis; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday with the Christian wake at 10 a.m. and the funeral service at 11 a.m. at First Christian Community Church, 1800 Hall Brown Road in Annapolis. Burial will follow at Bestgate Memorial Gardens.

Sandra Lucy
Sandra Johns Lucy, 55, died of cancer July 26, 2002 at her home in Pasadena after a seven-month illness.
Ms. Lucy was born in Baltimore on March 8, 1947, and raised in Severna Park. Previously she also lived in Severn, Glen Burnie and Hawaii.
She attended Anne Arundel Community College and received a certificate in business. she retired in 1994 from the National Security Agency.
She enjoyed crafts, the arts and theatre, working in the yard and animals, particularly her cat "Artemus."
She served as a member of the Saybrooke Community board of directors for the past four years.
Surviving are her mother, Eleanor Johns of Severna Park; two sisters, Patricia Hessian of Pasadena and Norma Shade of Severna Park; and her companion, Danny L. Floyd of Pasadena.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, where services will be at 7 p.m. Burial will be private.

Gerald Masengale
Gerald Gilmore "Jerry" Masengale, 71, a Bowie resident for 32 years and previously of Florida, died of multiple medical complications July 26, 2002 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a long illness.
Mr. Masengale was born in Paducah, Ky., on April 21, 1931. He attended two years of college in Indiana.
During the Korean War, he served in the Navy aboard a destroyer escort.
He was employed as an electrical engineer-program manager for the Computer Sciences Corp. at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt. He retired in 1996 after 24 years of service.
While employed he was responsible for the operation of the equipment used to monitor the vital signs of the astronauts during the launch of the Mercury missions.
His hobbies were computers, electrical repairs and golf.
Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Frances Masengale; three sons, Doug Masengale of Annapolis and Steve and Jim Masengale of Bowie; his daughter, Sharon Smith of Huntingtown; his sister, Sandra Bremer of Indianapolis, Ind.; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements by the Beall Funeral Home in Bowie are private.
James Shorter
James DeSales Shorter, 82, of Harwood and formerly of Rock Point in Charles County, died July 25, 2002 at Prince George's County Trauma Center in Cheverly of complications after surgery. He had been in an automobile accident July 23 in Harwood at Bayard and Sands roads.
Mr. Shorter was born Nov. 23, 1919, in Rock Point. He worked as a waterman and as a lineman for Potomac Electric Power Co. and retired from the Frank Joy Co., a contractor for the power company.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and saw action in campaigns in North Africa, Sicily and Europe. Among his numerous decorations were two Bronze Star medals.
Mr. Shorter attended the South County Senior Center where he was in the billiards league and enjoyed wood carving. He loved spending time with his four grandchildren and his great-grandson.
Also surviving are two daughters, Judy Ringler of Harwood and Vickie Indre of Falls Church, Va.; and one brother, Gregory Shorter, a resident of a La Plata nursing home.
His wife of nearly 48 years, Estelle Shorter, died on July 25, 1994.
Visitation is from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Arehart-Echols Funeral Home, 211 St. Marys Ave., La Plata. A funeral Mass will be said at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Issue in Charles County. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
