Robert W. McMahon, Sr.
(April 26, 1934 - July 8, 2011)
Robert W. McMahon, Sr. 77 years old of Reisterstown, died Friday July 8, 2011 at the Gilchrist Hospice Center in Towson.
Born April 26, 1934 in Baltimore he was the son of the late Lester F. McMahon and Emma Schmidt McMahon.
He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Ann J. McMahon, just 2 days prior on July 6, 2011. They were together at Gilchrist Hospice.
He was a retired Master Electrician / Control Technician for WJZ TV, an avid ham radio operator known as W3TRG and was video consultant for the former Baltimore Colts, Baltimore Orioles and New York Jets
Surviving are his children and their spouses: Anne and Jack Graham of Ohio, Robert W. Jr. and Jean McMahon of Carney, Carole and John Delhorbe of Florida and Drew McMahon of Reisterstown. Cousin of Bill Schmidt and his wife Eunice. Also survived by 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his brother Melvin McMahon.

Mary C. Ashcraft, 82, formerly of Littlestown, Pa.
Mary Catherine Ashcraft, 82, formerly of Littlestown, Pa., died Friday, March 27, 2009, at Lorien Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Taneytown.
Born Oct. 27, 1926, in Gaithersburg, she was the daughter of the late J. Spencer and Mary Imogene Burdette Loy. Twice married, she was the wife of the late Lawrence F. Ege and the late James Ashcraft.
She had resided in Gaithersburg, Woodstock and the Edinburg, Va., area before returning to Gaithersburg. She moved to Littlestown in 1990.
She had been a caretaker, a clerk in a florist shop and had retired from Montgomery Donut Shop in Gaithersburg.
She was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Littlestown and the Littlestown Senior Citizens. She enjoyed reading, flowers and traveling.
Surviving are brothers and sister-in-law Malcolm L. and Hattie Loy, of Jefferson, and Donald L. Loy, of Louisa, Va.; sisters-in-law Alice, Mary K. and Mary M. Loy; friends Claude and Rachel Colvin; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was predeceased by a sister, Esther Poole; and brothers Franklin, Ernest, Rudell, Ralph, Ray and Albert Loy.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 404 S. Main St., Woodsboro.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. James S. Dunlop, her pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Bethesda United Methodist Church cemetery in Browningsville.

Marion K. Dodge, 79, of Gettysburg, Pa.
Marion Kenneth Dodge, 79, of Gettysburg, Pa., died unexpectedly Thursday, March 12, 2009, while vacationing in Sebring, Fla.
Born May 26, 1929, in Terra Alta, W.Va., he was the son of the late Bruce E. and Nellie F. Cupp Dodge. He was the husband of Jo Ann Weeks Dodge, his wife of 55 years.
He graduated from Terra Alta High School in 1947 and moved to Baltimore, where he worked for Rheem Manufacturing. In 1951, he was drafted into the Army and served in the Korean War. After returning from the war, he continued working for Rheem until the company relocated, and he went back to school and studied to be an electronic technician. He was then employed by Bendix Radio Division, Baltimore City Transit and Traffic and the Baltimore City Fire Department communications. He had resided in Dundalk, Edgemere and Finksburg until he retired from the Baltimore City Fire Department in 1992.
He was a full-time “RV’er” for several years and later resided in Alpine Lake, W.Va. He enjoyed traveling extensively with his wife in their motor home.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons Thomas, Daniel and Andrew and their wives; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and brothers Dale and Michael Dodge, both of Baltimore.
He was predeceased by brothers Donald and Ronald Dodge.
Services were held at David A. Burdock Funeral Home in Oakland. Interment was in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
Dr. John R. Dopson, 74, of Finksburg
Dr. John Robert Dopson, 74, of Finksburg, died Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at St. Joseph Medical Center.
Born Feb. 1, 1935, in Newburgh, N.Y., and raised in Goshen, N.Y., he was the husband of Joan Ann Almony Dopson, his wife of 48 years.
He served in the Navy from 1953 to 1955 as an SO3 aboard the USS William M. Wood. He attended Cornell and Bucknell universities. He earned his Doctor of Dentistry from the University of Maryland Dental School in 1963 and also taught there for 10 years.
He had a dental practice on Main Street in Reisterstown for 33 years.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, listening to music, gardening, crabbing on the Wye River, horse racing, baseball, especially the New York Yankees, golfing, debating and laughter. He was known by many names, including “Spanky, ” “Ski, ” “Daddy” and “Pop.”
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughters and son-in-law Valerie Ann Dopson, of Finksburg, and Alexis Elisabeth and Scott Harris Sanner, of Edgewater; sons John Robert Dopson Jr. and Matthew Almony Dopson, both of Finksburg; grandchildren Ava, Mackenzie, Mia and Colby; a brother, Ed Rasczewski; and a niece, Donna Winchester.
He was predeceased by a sister, Helen Theuson; and sister and brother-in-law Ann and Maxwell Dopson.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. April 18 at Mount Zion United Methodist Church, 3006 Old Westminster Pike, Finksburg.

Irene M. Howard, 80, of Westminster, died Thursday, March 26, 2009, at the Dove House in Westminster.
Born Sept. 25, 1928, in Finksburg, she was the daughter of the late James William Bower Sr. and Catherine Mildred Mann Bower. She was the wife of Charles E. “Corky” Howard, her husband of 58 years.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are daughter and son-in-law Cheryl and Roland E. Hertsch Jr., of Westminster; granddaughters Michelle Anderson and husband Scott, of Pasadena, and Jennifer Hertsch, of Hampstead; siblings Virginia Harvey, of Severna Park, Sharon Almoney, of New Oxford, Pa., and Robert and Thomas Bower, both of Finksburg; and numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was predeceased by sisters Evelyn Weiss and Doris Gill; and a brother, James William Bower Jr.

Russell A. Kline, 76, of Taneytown
Russell Albertus Kline, 76, of Taneytown, died Friday, March 27, 2009, at the Lorien Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Taneytown.
Born Nov. 11, 1932, near Middleburg, he was the son of the late Dorothy Mae Kline Biddinger. He was the husband of Catherine Elizabeth Sowers Kline, his wife of 52 years.
He had retired after 25 years of service as a machine operator at Taney Stair and Taney Supply and Lumber Company in Taneytown.
He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Taneytown. He enjoyed sports, especially baseball and football, and helped to coach Little League for a time. He helped with Cub Scouts, liked his pet dogs and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughters and sons-in-law Virginia and James West, of Hanover, Pa., Donna and Mike Hinkhaus, and Joanne and Garry Haines, all of Taneytown; son and daughter-in-law Dale Kline Sr. and Sharon Kline of Taneytown; grandchildren Wade West, Jessica Yingling, Dale Jr., Joshua and Samuel Kline, Brandon Hinkhaus and Sarah Haines; and five great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a son, Russell Albertus Kline Jr.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with his grandson, the Rev. Dale Kline Jr., and the Rev. Gary Schaeffer co-officiating. Interment will be in Trinity Lutheran cemetery in Taneytown.
