Frank Richard Shaulis, Jr., age 22 of West Friendship died suddenly on Saturday, May 21, 2005.
Born April 25, 1983 in Maryland he was the son of Frank Richard and Kathy Diane Letsch Shaulis of West Friendship.
He was a full-time student at Howard Communtiy College. He very much loved his family.
Surviving in addition to his parents are siblings, Diane Lisa Shaulis, Michael Christian Shaulis and David Michael Shaulis all of West Friendship and grandparents: Christian Joseph and Marlene J. Letsch of Westmisnter.
The family will receive friends at the Haight Funeral Home & Chapel (6416 Sykesville Rd), Sykesville from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm on Wednesday. A graveside service will be held at 11am Thursday at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens, Marriottsville.
David D. Patton, age 76,
Of Eldersburg
David D. Patton, age 76, of Eldersburg, died on Monday, July 5, 2004, at his home.
Born on November 1, 1927, in Grantsville, MD, he was the son of the late Roy C. Patton and Bessie M. Butler Patton Rogers. He was the husband of Yvonne R. “Bonnie” Patton of Eldersburg.
He was a graduate of Grantsville High School, Class of 1944. He attended St. John’s College, Annapolis and then entered the US Army serving in World War II. He was a graduate of the University of MD in 1952 and then received his degree in law from the University of Baltimore Law School in 1955. He was a member of the Maryland Bar Association. He was retired from Bossard & Patton, Attorneys at Law, Baltimore, a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Sykesville, the Boumi Temple Shrine, Royal Order of Jesters, American Legion, Post #214, Grantsville and was a volunteer at the National Aquarium, Baltimore.
Surviving in addition to his wife are brother; Dale E. Patton of Palatka, FL and sisters: Doris Broadwater of Poland, OH and Lottie Kienzler of Bel Air, MD. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brothers: the late Rodney C. and Harry R. Patton and sister, the late Lorna Rogers.
A funeral service will be held at 10am Friday at the Haight Funeral Home & Chapel (6416 Sykesville Rd) Sykesville. Entombment will be in Blue Ridge Cemetery, Thurmont.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9pm Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm Thursday at the funeral home.

Martha Schmidt Gilbert
Age 85 of Westminster
Martha Schmidt Gilbert, age 85, of Westminster, died Tuesday, February 10, 2009, at the Carroll Hospice Dove House.
Born June 6, 1923, in Sykesville, MD she was the daughter of the late John Edward and Viola Holman Schmidt. She was the wife of the late Lewis Gilbert who died in 2001.
Martha was born, raised and lived her entire life in Carroll County. She was a graduate of Strayer Business College. She had worked as a secretary for Carroll County Public Schools in the Superintendent of Schools Office and for the Pupil Personnel Department. She was a long-time member of Deer Park United Methodist Church, Smallwood.
She is survived by son and daughter-in-law: L. Ronald and Janice Gilbert of Westminster, brothers and sisters-in-law: Elmer and Yvonne Schmidt of Hayes, VA and Ernest and Joan Schmidt of Hanover, PA, sister: Ruth Green of Finksburg, dear cousin and spouse: Ed and Frannie Holtzner of Catonsville and grandchildren and spouses: Daniel and Christi Gilbert of Littlestown, PA, Samuel Gilbert of Manchester, Timothy and Theresa Gilbert of Keymar, Monica and Troy Bowman of Jacobus, PA and B.J. and Amy Hanley of Fredericksburg, VA. She is also survived by 18 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10am at the Deer Park United Methodist Church, Smallwood with her pastor, Rev. Basil Day officiating. Interment will be in Deer Park Cemetery, Smallwood.

Age 80 of Marriottsville
Lawrence Lester Moody, age 80, of Marriottsville, died Monday, February 09, 2009, at his home.
Born January 12, 1929, in Woodstock, MD he was the son of the late Lawrence Leslie and Susie Anna Beach Moody. He was the husband of Margaret J. Moody (nee Linton), his wife of 58 years.
Lawrence had worked as a brick and stone mason for many years. He was a member of St. Alphonsus Rodriquez Catholic Church, Woodstock.
Surviving in addition to his wife are children and spouses: Susan and Jay Shown of Fairfield, PA, Bill and Denise Moody of Marriottsville, Janice and David Feaga of Marriottsville and Mark and Cindy Moody of Sykesville, grandchildren: Mitchell W. Shown, Jody K. and Daniel C. Feaga, Missy and Keith Kilby and Bill and Jenean Dearing and great-grandson: Brendon Dearing.
He was predeceased by a grandson, the late Travis W. Feaga.
The family will receive friends at the Haight Funeral Home & Chapel (6416 Sykesville Rd) Sykesville on Thursday from 5:30 to 6:30pm. A memorial service will follow at 6:30pm at the funeral home with the Rev. Joseph Lacey as celebrant. Interment will be private.

Karen Lynn Ostwald, 30, of Reading, PA, formerly of Eldersburg, MD, on Feb 6.
A 1996 graduate of Liberty High School, Karen was a customer service manager,
homemaker, and devoted mother.
She was predeceased by her mother, Gail Garrison Ostwald.
She is survived by companion Raymond Benitez and son Michael, of Reading, PA;
father Erich Ostwald and stepmother Stephanie, of Lincoln, DE, formerly of Eldersburg;
sister Marion L., brother-in-law Charles, and neice Taylor Nicole, of Tyrone, PA;

Dr. Charles O. Bennett, Jr.
Age 87 of Sykesville
Dr. Charles O. Bennett, Jr., age 87, of Sykesville died Monday, February 9, 2009, at the Carroll Hospice Dove House.
Born November 19, 1921, in Jamestown, ND, he was the son of Mr. & Mrs. Charles O. Bennett, Sr. He was the husband of the late Minerva I. Bennett (nee Reynolds) who predeceased him in 1994.
Charles was raised in both North Dakota and Minnesota. He received his undergraduate degree from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, after which he went to Officer Certification School in Kentucky. He then served as an officer in WWII directly under General McArthur. After the Army, he went to do his graduate work at both Rutgers and Princeton Universities achieving two master’s degrees and his PhD.
He and his wife moved to Maryland in 1962 when he began a career as a training officer for the federal government while his wife became a member of the Carroll County School System until her retirement. Charles also served as Pastor of the Marriottsville United Methodist Church and worked for twenty years with the Carroll County Food Sunday program. He was active at the county, state and federal levels in many programs. He also maintained a career in public speaking.
He was a long-time member of the Sykesville-South Carroll Rotary Club. He was a member of the Paul Harris Fellowship and served in multiple capacities. His distinguished career with the club led him to serve as the club’s president in 1981-82 and District Governor of Rotary District 7620 in 1969-70.
He was a member of the Springfield Presbyterian Church, Sykesville.
Charles is survived by his daughter: Sharon R. Krickler of Sykesville, grandsons: Kash and Kerry Krickler both of Sykesville, foster children: Bonita Wilson of Sykesville, Hank Robertson of TN and Frank Robertson of Hanover, PA, great-grandsons: Tyler Krickler Baker of Inwood, WV and Khristian and Kamren Krickler both of Sykesville, sister and brother-in-law: Mr. & Mrs. Winfield Johnson of Eden Prairie, MN, brothers and sisters-in-law: Mr. & Mrs. Richard Bennett of Lino Lakes, MN and Mr. & Mrs. Jean Bennett of Fargo, ND and sister-in-law: Dorothy Schoen of Grandforks, ND and brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Dr. and Mrs. Maynard Reynolds of St. Paul, MN along with many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday at 1pm at the Haight Funeral Home & Chapel (6416 Sykesville Rd) Sykesville with his pastor, Rev. Jack Sharp and fellow Rotarians, Pastors Roland (Bud) Brown and Charles Shacochis officiating. Interment will be private.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9pm at the funeral home.
