Elmer "Peck" Marine Jr.
RHODESDALE -- Elmer "Peck" Marine Jr., 85, of Rhodesdale died Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford.
He was born on Aug. 1, 1919, in Cokesbury, the son of the late Elmer Marine Sr. and Sallie Webster Marine.
He served his country during World War II as a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of the 31st Infantry Division Society and American Legion Post No. 243. He was a dairy and produce farmer and was a member of the Dorchester County Farm Bureau. He was also a member of the AARP.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Nagel Marine; two sisters, Mary Bauer of Union City, Pa., and Rachel Kozlowski of Cambridge; a niece, Paula Hayes and her husband, Fred; and two nephews, Sam Bauer and David Bauer.
A brother, Webster Marine, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Eastern Shore Veterans cemetery Chapel near Hurlock.

Robert M. Laird Jr.
RED LION, Pa. -- Robert M. Laird Jr. of Red Lion entered into rest on Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, at 12:02 a.m. at his residence after a lengthy illness at the age of 74.
He graduated from Hanover High School in 1948 and Gettysburg College in 1951 and was employed for 16 years as officer and manager of Southern Pennsylvania Bank at the Red Lion office. He also sold real estate with Dale Realty in Red Lion and Long and Foster in Ocean Pines. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, was a life member of Harold H. Bair Post No.14 American Legion, served as post commander and three years as District 22nd American Legion Adjutant and served five years as color sergeant of Lancers Drum and Bugle Corps. He was also a member of the Hanover Republican Club and Red Lion Elks Lodge No. 1592.
Born March 6, 1930, in Hanover General Hospital, he was the son of the late Robert M. and Helen O. (O'Neill) Laird. He was married
38 years to the late Barbara (Worley) Laird of Hanover, Pa., who was a registered nurse. She entered into rest in 1996.
He is survived by three daughters, Carol Black of Felton, Pa., and her husband, Bryon, Jane Keller of Ocean Pines and Susan Hammers of Red Lion and her husband, Brett; three grandchildren, Jared and Jenna Hammers, both of Red Lion, and Justin Black of Felton; one sister, Eleanor Kennell of Fairfield, Pa.; and one nephew.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Burg Funeral Home Inc., 134 W. Broadway in Red Lion, where visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service. The Rev. David D. Tietje, pastor of St. Johns UCC in Red Lion, will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Berlin at the convenience of the family.

Shirley P. Hall
ST. MICHAELS -- Shirley P. Hall of St. Michaels died Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004, at Memorial Hospital at Easton. She was 69.
Born in Salisbury on May 8, 1935, she was the daughter of the late James L. and Eva Applebaugh Powell. After graduating from Snow Hill High School in 1953, she attended Salisbury State Teachers College, where she graduated with her bachelor's degree in 1957 and later received her master's degree in education. In 1957, she married
J. Robert Hall. Mrs. Hall taught elementary school and served as a pupil personnel worker in Talbot County for more than 30 years, retiring in 1996. Mr. Hall died Jan. 19, 1997.
Mrs. Hall was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in St. Michaels, where she served on the Altar Guild and was a docent. She was also a member of the Rio Vista Community Association, where she served as a board member, Ladies of the Elks BPO 1622 of Easton, an honorary member of the Miles River Yacht Club and Talbot County Retired Teachers Association. She was very involved with her grandchildren, including all of their academic and athletic activities.
Mrs. Hall is survived by five daughters, Lynn H. Tyler and her husband, Danny, of Easton, Sharon T. Vitkun and her husband, Cordell, of Shady Side, Md., Deborah H. Barrett and her husband, Don, of McDaniel, Md., Robin H. Landgraf and her husband, Joe, of Cordova, Md., and Sandy L. Eure and her husband, Tim, of Hebron; 13 grandchildren, Sean Lindsay, Shannon Lindsay, Jeff Vitkun, Annie Barrett, Bonnie Barrett, K.J. Landgraf, Christina Landgraf, Cassie Eure, Corinne Eure, Zachery Eure, Jeremy Eure, Angie L. Morse and Danny Tyler Jr.; two great-grandsons, Jeremy Morse and Benjamin Morse; one sister-in-law, Anne R. Powell of St. Michaels; a niece, Rebecca Gilbert; and a nephew, Richard Powell.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a brother, James L. Powell Jr., and one grandson.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Christ Church in St. Michaels. Interment will be private.

Emory Bandon Kreiter
PARSONSBURG -- Emory Bandon Kreiter, 84, of St. Pete Beach, Fla., died in Parsonsburg on Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, at his son's home surrounded by his family and friends.
Born in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Robert Emory Patterson Kreiter and Letitia Cockrell Kreiter. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Helen Mess Kreiter, who died July 4, 2004.
He was a member of St. Alban's Episcopal Church. He graduated from Fork Union Military Academy and was honored as best drilled cadet. Later he attended Franklin and Marshall College and the University of Maryland before serving five years in the U.S. Army during World War II. They made their home in Silver Spring, Md., for 50 years. He worked at the Naval Ordinance Laboratory for 31 years as an air conditioning, refrigeration electrician. He was also a member of the American Legion.
He is survived by his son, Robert E. Kreiter and his wife, Jane, of Parsonsburg; two daughters, Letitia M. Worthington and her husband, William Jr., of Derwood, Md. and Elizabeth A. Kreiter of Burke, Va.; four grandchildren, Robert Kreiter Jr., Samantha Kreiter, Erin Kreiter and William Worthington III; a special friend, Valerie Fernandez; and a sister-in-law, Marion Fisher.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Bounds Funeral Home on East Main Street in Salisbury, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Reese Hammond
SALISBURY -- Reese Hammond, 81, of Salisbury died Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, at his home surrounded by his family.
Born on Jan. 15, 1923, in Salisbury, he was the son of the late Arley W. Hammond and Martha E. Morris Hammond. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Mary Hammond, in 1998.
He is survived by his companion, Betty M. Jones of Fruitland; six children, Galen R. Hammond, Cynthia H. Palmer, Boyd F. Hammond, Marlene E. Keane and Mary Beth Bradford, all of Salisbury, and Arlie Hammond of Parsonsburg; nine grandchildren; two sisters, Florence Hearn Davis and Edith Hastings; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hammond was a member of the Mount Hermon Lions Club and he attended Mount Hermon United Methodist Church.
A celebration of life will be held Wednesday at noon at Bounds Funeral Home on East Main Street in Salisbury. Pastor Philip Lee will officiate. Interment will follow in Hammond Cemetery. Friends may call tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Edmund Gerald White Sr.
BALTIMORE -- Edmund Gerald White Sr., 84, of Baltimore, and formerly of Deal Island, died Saturday, Dec. 25, 2004, at Franklin Square Hospital in Baltimore.
Born March 30, 1920, in Maryland, he was the son of the late Henry Plummer White and the late August Elizabeth Windsor White. He was the husband of the late Leona C. White.
He served in the U.S. Army. He had been a silversmith with Steiff Co.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Gerald E. Jr. and Janet White of Cape Coral, Fla.; a daughter and son-in-law, Diane Elizabeth White and Nick Rossi of Baltimore; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held today at 11 a.m. at Haight Funeral Home and Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road in Sykesville, Md. Interment will be in Mount View cemetery in Marriottsville, Md.
James L. Era
SALISBURY -- James L. Era, 68, of Salisbury died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
Born in Seaford, he was the son of the late James Nelson Era and the late Anna Louise (Niblett) Era.
He was a lifetime member and past post commander of both the American Legion in Seaford and Salisbury and a past post commander of VFW Post 194 in Salisbury.
He is survived by his former wife and lifelong companion of 30 years, Betty Era of Salisbury; one daughter, Anna Louise Short of Seaford; his brother, David F. Era of Seaford; an aunt, Barbara Niblett of Laurel; and two stepdaughters, Sue Tull of Federalsburg and Brenda George of Hay Market, Va. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury. Friends may call Wednesday one hour prior to the service. The Rev. J. Harvey Dixon and Chaplain Pete Layfield will officiate. A committal service will follow at 1 p.m. at Maryland Veterans cemetery near Hurlock.

Ellen "Sue" Denise Griffin
SALISBURY -- Ellen "Sue" Denise Griffin, 74, of Salisbury died Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
Born in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Dennis Raymond Shirley and Sophie Estelle Reed Shirley.
Mrs. Griffin was a member of the Fruitland Metro Lions Club. She loved to play bingo, paint and do artwork.
She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Norman Griffin of Salisbury; three sons, David Ramia of Florida, Timothy Ramia and his wife, Andrea, of Salisbury and Daniel Ramia and partner, Lee DiPaula III, of Queenstown; two stepsons, David Griffin of Salisbury and Dale Griffin of Delmar; a stepdaughter, Ruth Spence and her husband, Gary, of Princess Anne; three granddaughters, Stephanie, Roxanne and Rebecca Ramia; a brother, Edward Shirley and his wife, Peggy, of Williamsburg, Va.; a sister, Jean Williams and her husband, Francis, of Baltimore; and several other grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Bounds Funeral Home on East Main Street in Salisbury. Pastor Kevin Wackett will officiate. Interment will follow in Springhill Memory Gardens near Hebron. Friends may call Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
