James Edward Covington Windsor
PRINCESS ANNE -- James "Jim" Edward Covington Windsor died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, at his home after a brief illness.
He worked for the Somerset Planning and Zoning office for 38 years as an administrator and served his Lord and Savior with a Sunday school and music ministry, along with his wife and daughter, at Union United Methodist Church in Salisbury. Perhaps he was even more recognized as the big guy in the country and classic rock band Homespun, where he and his wife, Linda, sang lead and harmony, while he played a mean Gibson Hummingbird with tone as sweet as his voice.
Jim is survived by his wife of 23 years, Linda Brown Windsor; and his children of the heart, a stepson, Jeffrey Scott Gilbert, and a daughter, Kelly Ann Gilbert.
The son of Mary Covington Windsor and the late Guy Windsor of Westover and Princess Anne, Jim is survived by his mother and aunt, Julia Ford; his paternal uncle, Jack Windsor; and a multitude of cousins and in-laws. Although an only child, Jim is survived by a band of brothers -- brothers bound by love of antiques, woodwork, music and faith, and Windsor's unique Mark Twainish perspectives on life, Ronny McIntyre, Mike Miller, Steve Barnes, Mark Ashley, Dave Gooch, John Martin, Bill Elliott, David Strauss, Karl Endlich, Bill Mister, Danny Long and Rick Pollitt are a few among too many to mention.
Jim Windsor died a wealthy man with a heart as big as he was. And for that, we all received a large inheritance -- memories of our time with Big Jim. And that will keep us smiling through our tears while Jim keeps God smiling.
A viewing will be held tonight from 7 to 9 at Hinman Funeral Home in Princess Anne. A funeral service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Union United Methodist Church, located at the corner of Union Church and Jackson roads in Salisbury, with a viewing one hour prior to the service. Donations in Jim's memory may be made in lieu of flowers to Coastal Hospice, PO Box 1733, Salisbury, Md. 21801; or Union United Methodist Church, 7432 Zion Church Road, Parsonsburg, Md. 21849.
