Catherine Fields
FRUITLAND -- Catherine Fields, 85, of Fruitland died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center.
Born in Early Branch, S.C., she was the daughter of the late John Johnson and Florrie Williams Johnson. Her husband, Hulie C. Fields, passed away in 1977.
Prior to retiring, she was employed by Green Giant Canning Co. She attended First Baptist Church.
She leaves to cherish fond memories four sons, Hubert (Janice) Fields, Horace (Wanda) Fields and John H. (Gwendolyn) Fields, all of Salisbury, and James E. (Valerie) Fields of Mitchellville, Md.; five daughters, Earline Fuller of Glen Burnie, Md., Shirley Fields of Hanover, Md., Carolyn V. (Larry) Cauley of Temple Hills, Md., Christine (Bryan) Elsey of Salisbury and Thelma (John) Flamer of Bowie, Md.; three sisters, Margaret Major and Martha Smith, both of Varnville, S.C., and Oneal Williams of Brunson, S.C.; 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, in-laws and friends.
A son, Frankie Fields, also passed away in 1994.
A funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, located on the corner of Delaware Avenue and Booth Street in Salisbury. Family and friends may visit one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Lewis N. Watson will officiate. Burial will follow in Green Acres Memorial Park on West Road.
A ministry of comfort and dignity is being provided by Lewis N. Watson Funeral Home in Salisbury.
Catherine E. Herl
OCEAN CITY -- Catherine E. Herl, 78, of Ocean City, and formerly of Mount Vernon, Va., died Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
Born in Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late John and Catherine Donahue McGuire.
She had been an accountant for the United States Catholic Conference in Washington.
She is survived by two sons, Edward W. Herl of Fairfield, Pa., and Stephen R. Herl of Stafford, Va.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, John J. Herl, in August 2004.
A memorial service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Trinity Cathedral in Berlin. Father Larry Hill will officiate.

Mary Louise Long Horner
SALISBURY -- Mary Louise Long Horner, 83, of Salisbury died at her home Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004.
She was the daughter of the late Louise W. Long and J. Brice Long. She was preceded in death by her husband, H. Louis Horner, on June 2, 1999; a sister, Eleanor L. Caldabaugh; and a brother, John William Long.
She is survived by her daughter, Cassandra "Sandy" L. Horner of Wilmington; her son, H. Louis "Bud" Horner Jr. and his wife, Beverly, of Salisbury; and her two special grandchildren, Robert Louis and Julie Lynn, who knew her as "Weez."
A member of Trinity United Methodist Church, she attended Western Maryland College and Washington School for Secretaries.
She was very close to her brother-in-law, Donald H. Horner, his wife, Jane, her nieces and nephews and their families and many lifelong friends. Her family is especially grateful to her caregivers Louise Harmon, Noreen Dennis, Georgia Moffit, Heidi Johanson and all those who provided companionship, comfort and support.
Her volunteer activities included the Junior Board of Peninsula Regional Medical Center, the Town and Country Garden Club and the Girl Scouts.
A graveside service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Parsons cemetery in Salisbury.

Edward Henderson Corddry
WINCHESTER, Va. -- Edward Henderson Corddry, 75, of Winchester, and formerly of Snow Hill and Ellicott City, Md., died Saturday, Dec. 25, 2004, at Winchester Medical Center.
He was born March 5, 1929, in Snow Hill, the son of George Henderson and Mary Williams Corddry.
He married
Gertrude Horst on Oct. 4, 1951, in Dundalk, Md.
Mr. Corddry served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952. He then worked for CSX Railroad as an agent.
He was a member of All Hallows Episcopal Church in Snow Hill, the Teamster's Union, the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Winchester and the American Legion of Winchester.
Surviving are his wife of Winchester; two daughters, Nancy Mangus of Summerville, S.C., and Amy C. Patton of Winchester; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A brother, George Henderson Corddry Jr., is deceased.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Harry H. Witzke Family Funeral Home, 4112 Old Columbia Pike in Ellicott City.

Lucy Martinez
SALISBURY -- Lucy Martinez, 93, of Salisbury passed on to life eternal on Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, at Salisbury Center: Genesis ElderCare.
Born in Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Juan and the late Lucia (Zayas) Alvarado. She was preceded in death by her husband, Santos Martinez.
She was formerly of Barrington, N.J., moving to Salisbury in July 2003 to reside with her son, Santos. She attended Salisbury Church of Christ. She was an avid Bible reader; John 3:16 was an important verse to her.
She is survived by two daughters, Margarita Kinkler of Naples, Fla., and Carmen Rodriquez of New Jersey; two sons, Santos Martinez of Salisbury and Nestor Martinez of Houston, Texas; one sister, Isolina Reyes of Deltona, Fla.; one brother, Jose Alvarado of Deltona; a daughter-in-law, Jeannette L. Martinez of Salisbury; a son-in-law, Fredric Kinkler of Naples; nine grandchildren, one predeceased; and many great-grandchildren.
A celebration of her life will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Holloway Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Roger Kondrup, assisted by the Rev. Ike Ledger, will officiate. Following cremation, burial will take place in Lakeview Memorial Park in New Jersey at a later date.

John Charles Seipp Jr.
SALISBURY -- Midn John Charles "Jay" Seipp Jr. 1/C, 22, of Salisbury went home to be with his Lord on New Year's Day, Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, as a result of a single-vehicle accident on Union Church Road. He was the son of John Charles Seipp and Charlotte Jeanne Eggers Seipp of Salisbury.
Jay graduated from Parkside High School in 2000 with honors, where he also played football and lacrosse. He became an Eagle Scout in 1998 with Troop 149. He received a congressional nomination and appointment to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y. He attended Providence Presbyterian Church prior to entering the academy. He loved hunting, fishing, cooking and music. He was noted for his offbeat, creative sense of humor and his contagious smile and laugh. He brought joy to all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother, Midn Andrew Philip Seipp 3/C; and grandparents, Earl G. Eggers Jr. and Louise T. Eggers of Media, Pa., Henry F. Seipp of Cambridge and Gloria G.S. Davis and Francis K. Davis of Hilton Head, S.C. He is also survived by his aunt, Susan S. Brunnquell of Aston, Pa., and her children, Jay's first cousins, Christian J. Brunnquell and Julie L. Brunnquell; uncle, Earl Graf Eggers II and his wife, Alicia, of Brookhaven, Pa., and their children, Jay's first cousins, Alicia Nicole Eggers and Earl Graf Eggers III; and a multitude of loving friends.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Providence Presbyterian Church at 311 Parker Road in Salisbury, with a viewing from 1 to 3 p.m. prior to the service. A visitation will also be held tonight from 6 to 9 at Holloway Funeral Home. Officiating the funeral service will be the Revs. Lee Webb and Jason Shelton. Following cremation, the remains will be privately scattered at sea.

Dr. Ellen P. Pusey, Ph.D.
SNOW HILL -- Dr. Ellen P. Pusey, Ph.D., 76, of Snow Hill went home to be with her Lord after a long illness with her family at her side on Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005, at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury.
Born in Milton, she was the daughter of the late Algeo Newell Pratt and Ruby Boorman Pratt.
Ellen was a native of Maryland's Eastern Shore and a 30-year resident of Worcester County. She graduated from the University of Maryland College Park with a Bachelor of Science degree in home economics with a major in institution management, a minor in food and nutrition and a Ph.D. degree in education. She served as Extension home economist for Wicomico County from 1967 to 1992, presenting broad-based educational programs on family concerns, financial management, business environment, etc., and was an adviser to 35 Extension homemaker clubs. Ellen also served as an adviser to many organizations such as the Teen Adult Center, Holly Center, MAC, the Wicomico Farm and Home Show and the American Lung Association. She was instrumental in bringing AARP Chapter 1276 to Wicomico County, which was the first AARP chapter on the Lower Eastern Shore of Maryland.
In 1992, Ellen was transferred to Worcester County, where she served as Extension home economist one year before retiring. In this position she initiated and taught educational programs and worked with Worcester County agencies where needed.
Her significant program accomplishments and contributions to the people of Wicomico and Worcester counties and the state of Maryland earned her the following awards and recognition: Distinguished Service Award from the National Association of Extension Home Economists, the Continued Excellence Award from both MAEHE and NAEHE, the MHEA Research/Studies Award, the Soroptimist International Region Professional Award, the Wicomico Commission for Women Certificate of Honor and a Certificate of Merit from the U.S. Senate.
Ellen was proud to be a member of the Asian Regional Association of Home Economics and attended its biennial meetings in Hong Kong (1991), Kula Lumpa Malaysia (1993), as well as the International Federal Meeting in Hanover, Germany (1992).
She is survived by her husband, William W. Pusey Sr.; four children, William W. Pusey Jr. and his wife, Marty, Patricia Anne Pusey, Cynthia Cunningham and her husband, Jack, and Daniel Pusey and his wife, Susan, all of Snow Hill; and five grandchildren, Brian, Kathryn, Sarah, Trever and Dylan Pusey.
Besides her devotion to her family, she loved her cats and dog. Ellen loved traveling, the taking of pictures for herself and sharing with others. Ellen and Bill enjoyed traveling in the United States and abroad. She especially enjoyed her trips to China.
Ellen enjoyed writing a weekly column for The Daily Times, "Ladies Have You Heard, " and her Saturday morning television program, "At Home Today." In 1947, she was the camp program dietitian of the N.Y. Herald Tribune Fresh Air Fund Camps and supervised the cafeteria in Roosevelt Hospital, New York City, in 1948.
A funeral service will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Makemie Memorial Presbyterian Church, 115 Franklin St. in Snow Hill, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Deborah Latture will officiate. Interment will follow in Christian Church cemetery in Snow Hill.
