Ronnie E. Horsman
ATLANTIC -- Ronnie E. Horsman, 42, husband of Karen Lee Bowden Horsman, and a resident of Atlantic, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury following a remarkably long battle with malignant melanoma under the care of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, in addition to his local supplemental care.
Born in Cambridge, Ronnie was the son of the late Capt. Darius C. "Bill" Horsman and Annabel Rhea Brandon Horsman of Atlantic, formerly of Vienna, where they resided on the Horsman family farm.
He graduated in 1980 from Arcadia High School in Oak Hall and obtained a welding certificate from Eastern Shore Community College in Melfa in the spring of 1994.
He attended Pocomoke Church of God in Pocomoke City and was formerly employed by The Wood Shop, a cabinetry business in Atlantic. Ronnie was a waterman much of his life and was previously employed by American Original. Other occupations previously held include certified welder, various work in the field of construction, lawn mower repair and farming.
Ronnie was an avid outdoorsman all of his life.
Other than his wife and parents, Ronnie is survived by a 4-year-old son, Jacob Daniel Horsman of Atlantic; an 8-year-old daughter, Anna Hope Horsman of Chincoteague; a 21-year-old daughter, Sheena Lynn Horsman of Onancock; a brother, William C. Horsman, and sister-in-law, Candy Horsman, of Temperanceville; a mother-in-law, Gloria Lee Bowden of New Church; a sister-in-law, Darlene Bowden Citro, brother-in-law, Santino J. Citro, two nieces and a great-nephew of Oak Hall; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews (by marriage); and an abundance of friends.
Funeral arrangements made by Salyer Funeral Home in Chincoteague include a viewing from 1 to 2 p.m. today, followed by the funeral at 2 p.m. at Pocomoke Church of God in Pocomoke City conducted by the Rev. Raymond Crowley, the Rev. James Caldwell, the Rev. Stacey Johnson and the Rev. David Reed. Interment will be in Downing's cemetery in Oak Hall.

Eleanor W. Curran
SALISBURY -- Eleanor W. Curran, 85, of Salisbury died Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, at Hospice by the Lake in Salisbury.
Born in Stanford, Conn., she was a daughter of the late Chester A. and Ida Beyer Wood. She was preceded in death by her husband, Reuben Curran, in 1992 and by a daughter, Gail Vaughn.
Mrs. Curran was a member of the Wicomico County Bowling League and a member of the Benjamin Girls.
She is survived by a son-in-law, Charles Vaughn of Salisbury; a granddaughter, Daphne Shreiber and her husband, Richard, of Salisbury; and three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Geoffrey and Wesley Shreiber.
A funeral service will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury. Pastor Troy Ray will officiate. Interment will be in Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Coastal Hospice, PO Box 1733, Salisbury, Md. 21802.

Lillie Mae Sockriter
SALISBURY -- Lillie Mae Sockriter, 65, of Salisbury died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center.
She was born July 19, 1939, in Salisbury, the daughter of the late George Allen Norman Sr. and Sarah Priscilla Hayward Norman.
She attended Wicomico High School. When her children were young, she was active with the Cub Scouts and Brownies. For 27 years she worked for Salisbury Nursing Home as a certified nursing assistant, retiring in 2000. She also worked as a private sitter.
She is survived by a son, Richard J. Sockriter of Salisbury; two daughters, Tammy Lynn Dize and her husband, Michael, of Salisbury and Terry Leigh Hupfer and her husband, Michael, of Salisbury; three grandchildren, Kelly Marie Sockriter, Ashley Marie Dize and Jennifer Nicole McGowan; and two brothers, Robert Norman and George Allen Norman Jr., both of Salisbury.
A viewing will be held Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Zeller Funeral Home in Salisbury. Funeral services will be private.
Sylvia Jane Johnson
LAUREL -- Sylvia Jane Johnson, 69, of Laurel died Friday, Jan. 7, 2005, at Chancellor Care Center in Delmar.
She was born in Laurel to the late Herman and Alberta Collins.
Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker and a loving and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She delighted in watching her children and grandchildren at various sporting events. She was loved by all and will be missed very much.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Laurel Chapter 18, where she had served as past worthy matron. She was a member of the Laurel Alumni Association and American Legion Post 19 Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Millard C. Johnson Jr.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel Johnson and Molly of Delmar and Millard Johnson III and Debbie of Laurel; a son, Dennis Johnson of Laurel; a daughter, Teresa Johnson of Laurel; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Helen Collins of Salisbury; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m., beginning with a service by OES Laurel Chapter 18. The Rev. Lemuel Hudson will officiate. Services will be at Short Funeral Home in Laurel. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Odd Fellows cemetery in Laurel.

Claudette H. Gibbs
DELMAR -- Claudette H. Gibbs, 65, of Delmar died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005, at her home.
Her parents were the late Harrison and Julia Jones.
Mrs. Gibbs worked as a nurse's aide. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Delmar, where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She also enjoyed camping.
She is survived by her husband, Marvin Gibbs of Delmar; a son and daughter-in-law, Marvin Lynn and Gail Gibbs of Eden; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda Lee and Jeff LeBlanc of Laurel; three brothers, Roger Jones of Princess Anne, Walter Jones of Delmar and Fred Jones of Salisbury; a sister, Flora White of Snow Hill; six grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Faith Baptist Church on East State Street in Delmar, with Pastor Ken Johnson officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in St. Stephen's cemetery in Delmar.

Dorothy J. Daugherty
CRISFIELD -- Dorothy J. "Dot" Daugherty, 81, of Crisfield died Friday, Jan. 7, 2005, at McCready Memorial Hospital in Crisfield.
Born in Crisfield, she was a daughter of the late William James and Agnes Mae Walston. Her first husband, John Edwin Daugherty, died Dec. 31, 1981.
She was a homemaker and retired bookkeeper, and was a faithful member of the Crisfield Church of God.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Karl Walter; her sister and brother-in-law, Joanna and Stewart Emely; her husband, Lionel Daugherty; three stepdaughters, Faye Dorman, Jackie Lowe and Suzanne Payne, and their families; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Crisfield Church of God. The Rev. Philip Morris will officiate. Friends may call Monday evening from 7 to 9 at the church. Interment will be in Sunnyridge Memorial Park in Crisfield.

Elsie Watson Jackson
SALISBURY -- Elsie Watson Jackson, 92, of Salisbury, and formerly of Chester, Pa., died Friday, Jan. 7, 2005, at Atria Assisted Living Center.
Born in Chincoteague, she was a daughter of the late George David Watson and Elizabeth Clayville Watson Davis. Her husband, Walter C. Jackson Jr., died July 15, 1987. She was also preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters, Marvin, George, Edward (her twin), Preston and Harry Watson, Aleta Watson Jester, Charlotte Watson Snead and Naomi Watson Jackson.
She is survived by two sons, Dr. Walter C. Jackson III and his wife, Jacqueline, of Louisville, Ky., Robert C. Jackson and his fiancee, Mei Shee, of Palatine, Ill., and a daughter, Dr. Carolyn Jackson Elmore, and her husband, Page Elmore of Salisbury; eight grandchildren, Jerri Leigh Jackson of Madisonville, Ky., Dr. Jeffrey Jackson and his wife, Lori, of Atlanta, Nancy Ruby and her husband, Dr. James Ruby, of Chicago, Jill Sakosits of Oakland, N.J., Nichole McVeigh and her husband, Christopher, of Wayne, N.J., Diana Hampton and her husband, Eric, of Cuming, Ga., Robert "Steve" Mears and his wife, Jennette, of West Ocean City and Kathryn Elmore of Salisbury and Macon, Ga.; 15 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Jackson was a homemaker. She graduated from Chester High School and Chester Commercial College, where she obtained a secretarial degree. In Chester, she was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, where she served faithfully in many roles over three decades: Sunday school teacher, primary department director, Sunday school superintendent, choir president and director, deaconess, Bible school director, Ladies Aide Society president as well as Philathea Class president. She worked at Strawbridge and Clothier department store in Springfield, Pa., in the children's department in the 1960s and 1970s.
After moving to Maryland she lived at Manokin Manor Retirement Center and Atria Assisted Living Center. She was a member of Allen Memorial Baptist Church in Salisbury, where she was a member of the choir.
A funeral service will be held Monday at 7 p.m. at Holloway Funeral Home, where friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Interment will be in Pennsylvania on Tuesday in Ashton, Pa.
