Christopher Chapman Richardson Jr.
SALISBURY -- Christopher Chapman Richardson Jr. died Tuesday, April 5, 2005, at the age of 97.
He was born Sept. 29, 1907, in Bel Air, Md., the son of Christopher Chapman Richardson Sr. and Lotta Robinson Richardson.
He was raised on a farm on Ring Factory Road and attended Harford County public schools. In high school, he played soccer and ran track. Chapman married
the late Helen Phillips of Centreville, Md., in 1937. They were married
59 years. In 1928, he began work for AT&T; and transferred to Illinois Bell Telephone just before World War II, where he was employed until his retirement in 1970. In 1945, he was moved to the Sterling/Rock Falls area of Illinois and eventually bought a farm there where he and his sons raised black angus cattle as he continued his work with Illinois Bell. In 1972, he moved to Salisbury, where his home remained until his death.
He enjoyed his hobbies of gardening, furniture refinishing, and playing bridge. Chap was a lifelong Democrat and loved to talk about politics. He was a member of St.Alban's Episcopal Church in Salisbury.
He is survived by his three children, Chapman Scott Richardson of Frostburg, Dorothy Richardson Towsley of Baltimore and Christopher Thomas Richardson of Mill Valley, Calif. There are five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Abingdon, Md., in Harford County and burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Florence M. Legg
DOVER -- Florence M. "Toddi" Legg, 73, of Laurel died Sunday, April 10, 2005, in New Castle, Del.
Born in Chestertown, Md., on April 1, 1932, she was the daughter of the late John Vincent and Grace Gears Mench.
She was a graduate of Chestertown High School and in 1951 married
Arthur K. "A.K." Legg. They resided in Chestertown, where she worked as a nurse's aid with Chester River Hospital Center until 1968 when they moved to Wilmington. There Mrs. Legg worked at St. Francis Hospital as a nurse's aide and later as a private duty child care provider. Following Mr. Legg's retirement in 1994, they moved to Lewes. Mrs. Legg loved needlework, crafting, gardening and was an avid Jeff Gordon and Baltimore Orioles fan. Some of the best times of her life were spent with her husband walking and fishing from Hoss's Pier in Lewes.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2001.
Mrs. Legg is survived by a son, Arthur K. Legg III and his wife, Candy, of Newark; two daughters, Terry L. Feret and her husband, Tom, of Laurel and Ellen L. Faries and her husband, Dave, of Middletown, Del.; a sister, Frances Welch of Centreville, Md.; five grandchildren, Kim, Tom Jr., Tim, Tiffany and D.K., along with three great-grandchildren, Zander, Tiffany and William.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road in Chestertown. Relatives and friends may call tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home. Interment will be in Chester Cemetery.

John H. Kestler
LANCASTER, Pa. -- John H. Kestler, 83, passed away Sunday, April 10, 2005, at Brethren Village in Lancaster.
Mr. Kestler was born in Philadelphia on Jan. 23, 1922. He lived with his wife and family in Springfield, Delaware County, for more than 40 years, spending summers in Ocean City.
He was a 1939 graduate of North Philadelphia High School and in 1944 graduated from Drexel University with a degree in electrical engineering. He was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity.
His distinguished career includes many highlights. His technical expertise evolved from 47 years of employment with companies including Westinghouse, Fischer and Porter and Parsons-Jurden Corp., which constructed the new U.S. Mint in 1967. He created and managed his own electrical company, which was selected for the refurbishing of San Francisco Mint. After completing his work for the U.S. Treasury Department, he became an elevator inspector, utilizing his technical expertise for the state of Pennsylvania. His territory included the counties of Philadelphia, Delaware, Bucks, Chester and Montgomery. John retired in 1991.
John met his wife, Naomi Clayville, at Westinghouse. They were married
for 46 years before her death in 1999. Their children are Joanna, John and Susan. John died in 1967 after a battle with leukemia at the age of 10. Joanna and her husband, Phillip Garraty, live in West Grove, Pa., with a daughter, Sarah Garraty, a junior at Lancaster Mennonite High School; Susan and husband, Christopher Owens live in Media, Pa., with a son, John Owens, a fourth-grader at St. Aloysius Academy in Bryn Mawr, Pa. John's final five years were spent in Lancaster at the Luther Acres and Brethren Village retirement communities.
They were active in St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Springfield, Pa. John also belonged to the Masonic Order Lodge 59 in Philadelphia for more than 50 years.
A funeral service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Richard Scott Rukat
SALISBURY -- Richard Scott Rukat, 31, of Salisbury died Monday, April 11, 2005, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
Born in Glens Falls, N.Y., he was the son of the late Garry Richard Rukat and Barbara (Crosier) Hurd.
Mr. Rukat was a 1991 graduate of Hudson Falls High School, a 1994 graduate of Mohawk Valley Community College and a 1998 graduate of Buffalo State College. He was proud to be the first Rukat within his family to graduate college with a bachelor's degree. He was an active member of the Boy Scouts of America. As a youth he earned Eagle rank in 1991 and was a member of the National Eagle Scout Association. He attended two national and one world jamborees. As an adult leader, he earned a district award of merit and attained the James E. West Award. He was fortunate enough to pursue the most rewarding career as a commissioned professional scout. He also was a member of Rotary International, serving as a leader for their community service youth group in New York and as public relations committee chairman in Maryland. In addition, he served with the United Way as a board member.
He is survived by his wife, Jody Jean Rukat, and two children, Meghan Jean Rukat and Katharine Jean Rukat, both of Salisbury.
Visitation will be Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury and Monday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m and Tuesday from noon to 1 p.m. at Carleton Funeral Home in Hudson Falls, N.Y. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Carleton Funeral Home. Interment will be in Brown cemetery in West Fort Ann, N.Y.

Beverly Kontos
MARDELA SPRINGS -- Beverly Kontos, 78, of Mardela Springs died Monday, April 11, 2005, at her home.
Born Feb. 9, 1927, in Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Mont and Ethel Delph McVey.
Although she enjoyed being a homemaker and spending time with family, she worked very hard in her earlier days to support her children. She first worked as a riveter during World War II at the Fairfield shipyard in Baltimore. She then worked for the Maryland Biscuit Company packing cookies, the American Can Company on the assembly line, then for Bethlehem Steel. One of her last positions was working at Buckle Craft on a stamping press.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, George Christ Kontos; two daughters, Mary Frances Werner of Sharptown and Paula J. Bostic and her husband, James, of Joppa, Md.; a son, Roger D. Rose of Rehoboth Beach; a grandson, Anthony Emil Werner and his wife, Jolene, of Delmar; two great-grandchildren, Amber Marie and Dalton James; and a sister, Mary Perisano of Dundalk, Md. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, including a nephew, Mikh Figetakis, and a niece, Hristina Figetakis, both of Greece.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister and four brothers.
A funeral service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Short Funeral Home, 13 E. Grove St. in Delmar, where family and friends may call tonight from 7 to 8 p.m. A committal service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Gardens of Faith cemetery in Baltimore.
James N. Hamilton Jr.
SALISBURY -- James N. Hamilton Jr., 84, of Salisbury died Monday, April 11, 2005, at Salisbury Center: Genesis ElderCare.
Born in Rockland, Maine, he was a son of the late James N. Hamilton Sr. and the late Martha (Holland) Hamilton. Mr. Hamilton is survived by his wife, Norma W. Hamilton.
Mr. Hamilton worked as a merchant seaman. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. He was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church and volunteered at Peninsula Regional Medical Center.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Hamilton is survived by two daughters, Sharon H. Smith and her husband, Wayne E., of Winnemucca, Nev., and Marsha L. Manning and her husband, Joe, of Mesa, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Evelyn Lufkin, Marguerite Lufkin, Ada Barter and Eleanor Main; and a brother, Wilbur H. Hamilton.
A graveside service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Springhill Memory Gardens, 27260 Ocean Gateway near Hebron. Officiating will be the Rev. Dale L. Vroman.

William G. Sirman Sr.
SNOW HILL -- William Godfrey Sirman Sr., 81, of Snow Hill died Thursday, April 14, 2005, at Berlin Nursing Home in Berlin.
Born in Newark, Md., he was the son of the late Elton W. and Mary G. Sirman.
Mr. Sirman was a farmer, specializing in grain and livestock. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Newark. He was a longtime member of the Worcester County Farm Bureau. He enjoyed spending time with family and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Anna G. Sirman of Snow Hill; one son, William G. Sirman Jr. and his wife, Lois, of Newark; one daughter, Cordie Sirman Pearson and her husband, Harry W., of Berlin; four grandchildren, Michelle Sirman Wells and her husband, Scot, Michael W. Sirman, Christina J. Pearson and Daniel W. Pearson; two great-grandchildren, Trey S. Wells and Colbey L. Sirman; one sister, Ellen Sirman LiPira and her husband, Dr. Joseph LiPira, of Towson, Md.; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Newark, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Shirley A. Evans will officiate. Interment will be held in Trinity Garden of Memories in Newark.
