Ida Mae Deshields
SALISBURY -- Ida Mae Deshields, 84, of Salisbury died Friday, April 15, 2005, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center.
Born in Salisbury, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Ethel Brown.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Salisbury. Prior to retiring, she was employed by the Campbell Soup Co.
She will be missed by one stepson, Lawrence Wright and Virginia of Salisbury and other relatives and friends.
One son, Sinclair Cottman, and one sister, Alice Curtis, preceded her in death.
A funeral service will be held Monday at 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church on the corner of Delaware Avenue and Booth Street. The Rev. Lewis N. Watson is the officiating pastor. Family and friends may visit one hour prior to the service. Interment will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Springhill Memory Gardens on Ocean Gateway near Hebron.

Virginia I. Matthews
SNOW HILL -- Virginia I. Matthews, 98, of Snow Hill died Thursday, April 14, 2005, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
Born in Chincoteague, she was a daughter of the late Mather and Ida Mason.
Mrs. Matthews was a member of Spence Baptist Church in Snow Hill. She was a retired poultry grower, a former owner of the Peoples restaurant in Harrington and a licensed beautician in Maryland and Virginia. She enjoyed doing many forms of handiwork such as quilting, crocheting and fine needle work. She enjoyed her family and had many fun times with them and with her church family.
She is survived by two sisters, Anne Nock and Frances Selby, both of Salisbury; two nieces; three nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and several great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, William J. Hickman; her second husband, Isaac W. Matthews; three brothers, Harvey, John and Wilbur Mason; and one sister, Margaret Mason.
A graveside service will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Trinity Garden of Memories in Newark, Md. The Rev. Kenneth Elligson will officiate.
Contributions may be sent to the Spence Baptist Church Building Fund, 7603 Spence Church Road, Snow Hill, Md. 21863.

Joseph A. Elliott
LAUREL -- Dr. Joseph A. Elliott, M.D., 82, died Thursday, April 14, 2005, at Seaford Center: Genesis ElderCare.
Born Jan. 5, 1923, in Laurel, he was a son of the late Dr. John Roscoe Elliott and Mary Catherine McGarry Elliott. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, John Roscoe Elliott Jr. and Jack T. Elliott and a half brother, Wade Minter.
Dr. Elliott graduated from Laurel High School in 1939, Western Maryland College in 1943 and Cornell Medical College in 1948. He interned at the Delaware Hospital in Wilmington and did a residency at Camden Memorial Hospital in Parkersburg, W. Va., where he met his wife. In 1950 he began his medical practice in Laurel with his father. They practiced together for 15 years. The Doctors Elliott practiced medicine for a total of 90 years in Laurel.
Between college graduation and entering Cornell Medical School, Dr. Elliott served briefly in the U.S. Army. In 1951, he volunteered in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed as a medical officer in the Azores Islands, Portugal. He was a member of Laurel American Legion Post 19.
Dr. Elliott was active in the Medical Society of Delaware. He was president of the medical staff at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford from 1968 to 1969, president of the Sussex County Medical Society and president of the Delaware Medical Society in 1972.
In Laurel, Dr. Elliott was devoted to the high school football team and served as home team physician for 40 years. On his retirement, the team presented him with a Bulldog football jersey with the No. 40 on it.
In 1991, he was selected as Citizen of the Year in Laurel. He also served as youth counselor and later as trustee at Christ United Methodist Church. He began his membership there at age 10.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Louise Elliott; three sons, Joseph A. Elliott Jr. and wife, Cindy, of Flanders, N.J., and their children, Justin and Lauren Elliott, John David Elliott of Milton and Mark J. Elliott and wife, Rose, of Tampa, Fla., and their children, Ian and Ryan Elliott; and a brother, James I. Elliott. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Christ United Methodist Church in Laurel, where family and friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. The Rev. Fred Duncan will officiate. Interment with military honors will be held at Odd Fellows cemetery in Laurel.

Laura Catherine Simpson
STOCKTON -- Laura Catherine Simpson, 66, of Stockton died Thursday, April 14, 2005, at Prince George Hospital Center in Cheverly, Md.
Born in Stockton, she was the daughter of the late Ruben Henry Marshall and Floretta Collick Marshall.
Memories will be cherished by one daughter, Glenda Robins of Largo, Md; one stepbrother, Leroy Smith of Pocomoke City; two grandchildren, Alicia Robins and Leslie Becketts, both of Largo; two great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held Monday at noon at Shiloh United Methodist Church in Johnson's Neck near Pocomoke City. The Rev. Gertrude Brown will officiate. Family and friends may visit one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Johnson's Neck cemetery in Pocomoke City.

Jean A. Fried
SALISBURY -- Jean A. Fried, 58, of Salisbury passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 13, 2005, in Rochester, Minn., after a long illness.
Born in Norristown, Pa, she was the daughter of the late Louis and late Mary Adelman.
Mrs. Fried had made her home in Salisbury for 16 years, after moving from Rehoboth Beach.
In Salisbury, she changed her career from book store manager to a travel agent. Memberships included CORE (Congress of Racial Equality), cofounder of a NOW Chapter and League of Women Voters. She also worked on various Democrat campaigns. She had a commitment to justice and equality for people and was committed to social change. She had a great love of history and literature.
She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Wayne Fried of Salisbury; a brother, Roger Adelman of Washington, D.C.; and her beloved, loyal dog, Chico.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Holloway Funeral Home. Friends may call Wednesday from noon to 2 p.m. The Rev. Howard Travers will officiate. Interment will be at Spring Hill Memory Gardens near Hebron.
Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the American Heart Association, 415 N. Charles St., Baltimore, Md. 21201.

William Edward Bohager
BERLIN -- William Edward Bohager, 63, of Berlin passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2005.
Bill was preceded in death by his mother, Alma Greenstreet Bohager.
Bill "Bull" Bohager is survived by his loving and devoted wife and partner, Constance Joan, called "Princess" by Bill. Constance stayed forever by his side, caring for him down to his last days and finally in his last hours.
Bill is also survived by his father, Edward S. Bohager; sister and brother-in-law, Katherine and Arthur Caron of Wilmington, N.C.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Tom and Carol Taylorson of Baltimore; and brother-in-law, Joseph R. Clark of Berlin. Also surviving are six sons, Thomas, William, Jason, Jon, Michael and James; three daughters-in-law, Diane, Gina and Amy; and seven grandchildren, Sara, Dylan, Jason, Hailey, Kaiya, Evan and Aldyn, all of Baltimore.
Bill was a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps. A Vietnam veteran, Bill served three tours of duty in Special Forces. After being honorably discharged, he attended the University of Baltimore studying law and business.
After various employment in Baltimore, Bill moved to Ocean City in 1987, where he worked in property management and automobile sales before retiring in 1997. After retiring, he was devoted to the care of his mother and father.
Bill was a generous person who enjoyed giving anonymously to families in need. He was especially concerned with providing bicycles to children at Christmas through the Worcester County GOLD program. Bill was also one of the three founding members of the O.C. Cruzers car club and served as vice-president and treasurer from 2002 to 2004. He loved muscle cars and hot rods and his presence will be greatly missed at car shows.
A visitation will be held today and Saturday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Ullrich Funeral Home at 10902 Ocean Gateway in Berlin, where a service will be held on Saturday at 8 p.m. The Rev. Bill Sterling will officiate. Interment will be private.
