Jenny L. Bramel
PORT ORANGE, Fla. - Jenny Bramel passed away on Monday, Sept. 6, 21004 at the Halifax Hospital in Port Orange.
She was born June 27, 1931 in Aireys in Dorchester County, the daughter of the late John F. Lewis and Reita A. Wallace Lewis.
A memorial service is planned for a later date. A complete obituary will appear in a later edition of The Daily Banner.
Arrangements are being handled by the Framptom Funeral Home, P.A. in Federalsburg.
Margaret G. Thatcher
Mildred G. Thatcher, 104, of Cambridge, passed away on Friday, September 17, 2004, at the Mallard Bay Care Center. She is survived by a daughter, Margaret T. Brigham of Cambridge. Funeral arrangements, which are incomplete, are being handled by the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge.
Joseph C. Phelps
CAMBRIDGE - Joseph Cephas Phelps, "Joe", 75, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004 at his home.
Born Oct. 2, 1929 in Washington County, N.C., he was the son of the late Elenora Phelps and Cephas Jones.
He attended the public schools in Creswell, N.C. and at an early age joined the St. John Missionary Baptist Church.
During the summer of 1953, he moved to Cambridge. He met and married the former Vennett Edwards.
Mr. Phelps was a retired employee of the City of Cambridge. He worked for many years in the Sanitation Department. Simultaneously for several years he was also employed by Coldwater Seafood Co. Until his passing he worked for Food Lion.
He was an active member of United Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and president of "Men Working For Christ."
In addition to his wife of 50 years, Vennett Phelps, he is survived by two sons, Wardell Lamberson (Connie) of Landover and Eugene Spicer of Cambridge; a daughter, Rosemary Williams (Larry), Philadelphia, Pa.; three brothers, William (Jerolyn) Phelps, Samuel Phelps, all of Washington, D.C. and James Phelps of Creswell, N.C.; a grandson, Larry Williams Jr.; several nieces, nephews and great-nephews, including a special niece, Barbara Jordan (William), New Castle, Del.; five special first cousins, James R. Phelps of New Carrollton, L.J. Phelps of Newark, N.J., Sylvester Phelps of Hyattsville, Sue M. Horton of Silver Spring, and William H. Phelps of Creswell, N.C., other cousins and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, at United Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor William A. Purnell Jr., officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery. There will be a viewing held two hours prior to the service.
The Henry Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge is handling the arrangements.
Elizabeth Torbert
FEDERALSBURG - Elizabeth Torbert, 86, of the Federalsburg/Hurlock area, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004 at the Caroline Nursing Home, where she had been a resident for the past 31/2 years in Denton.
She was born Oct. 23, 1918 in Blades, Del., the daughter of the late Martin Roland and Susie D. Ward Morgan.
She attended school in Blades, Del., and worked for Excelsior Pearl Works in Federalsburg. She later worked at Blades Garment Company and at the Seaford Shirt Factory in Seaford, Del.
Mrs. Torbert is survived by one daughter, Joyce Hastings and her husband, Robert of Denton; one son, James Sullivan and his wife, Jo Ann of Federalsburg; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil R. Torbert, who passed away Nov. 9, 1992; a brother, Joseph R. Morgan who passed away in 1995 and a sister, Louise Sampson who passed away in April of 2002.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Williamson Funeral Home in Federalsburg with Pastor Otis Seese of Glory Land Tabernacle officiating. Burial will take place at Concord Cemetery in Federalsburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home during the hour preceding the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Glory Land Tabernacle, c/o Pastor Otis Seese, 1003 Camp Road, Denton, MD 21629.
Edward O. Johnson
SALISBURY - Edward O. Johnson, 53, formerly of Rhodesdale and Cambridge, passed away on Monday, April 17, 2006 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center.
He was born Dec. 9, 1952 in Cambridge, son of the late Mable Johnson and Moses Wilson.
He received his education in the public school system of Dorchester County. Mr. Johnson spent most of his adult life in the field of construction.
He is survived by two brothers, Cortez of Hurlock, Arvel (Barbara) of East New Market; two sisters, Trudi (Lucien) Penn of Suffolk, Va. and Roberta (Eldridge) Ennels of Rhodesdale; eight nephews, Tyrene Johnson, Arvel Johnson, Rodney Johnson, Warrenton Johnson, Eldridge Ennals, Deonte' Ennals, Leroy Todd, Andre' Todd; five nieces, Alexis Johnson, Bonnie Todd, Breanna Penn, Keionna Penn and Alexus Warrenton; two aunts, Laura Johnson and Irene Wilson; two special granddaughters, Davina Johnson and Krishna Johnson; a special friend, Patricia Winder and a number of other relatives.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Bennie Smith Funeral Home in Cambridge.
Richard E. Pritts Jr.
EASTON - Richard Edward Pritts Jr., 43, known as "Buddy" passed away at his home on Tuesday, April 18, 2006.
He was born Sept. 22, 1962 in Keyser, W.Va., son of Virginia Moorehead Pritts of Keyser, W.Va. and the late Richard Edward Pritts Sr.
He grew up in Bloomington, but resided most of his life on the Eastern Shore. He worked for Richard Harrison's Paving and their family for the past 20 years. He loved to fish and was a big NASCAR fan.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, Sheila Pritts of Hurlock; three daughters, Samantha Reed, Kelly Pritts, and Katie Pritts, all of Hurlock; three sisters, Cathie Shillingburg, Karen McKone, Lynn Baker, all of Keyser, W.Va.; a brother, Robert Lee Pritts of Keyser, W.Va., and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Debbie Bailey.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on April 24, at Framptom Funeral Home, P.A. in Federalsburg. Burial will follow at Junior Order Cemetery in Preston.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 5-7 p.m.
Serving as pallbearers will be Richard Harrison Jr., John Dolby Jr., Kevin Kennedy, Paul Smith, William Stacey, and Kevin Foskey.
Floyd O. Green
TRAPPE - Floyd Owen Green, 79, better known as "Jim Puggy" passed away on Easter Sunday, April 16, 2006 at the Memorial Hospital at Easton.
Born July 13, 1926 in Trappe he was the son of the late Mary E. Green Wilson and Fowler Bantum.
He grew up in Trappe with many people helping with his raising. He was educated in the Trappe school system.
In 1945 he was inducted into the U.S. Army where he served for two years and received many honors. After his tour of duty he returned to Trappe, where he worked for many people farming and driving trucks. His love for trucking took him to New York, New Jersey and Delaware for jobs. He retired from trucking for David A. Bramble of Easton in 1988.
He loved fishing with Mikey, playing cards and singing gospel songs.
He was a lifetime member of both the American Legion and VFW of Easton.
Mr. Green is survived by a son, Robert Blake of Easton; three brothers, Tennyson Turner (Dianna) of Easton, Wayman Turner of Easton, William Turner (Delores) of Easton; three sisters, Bertha Frieson of Easton, Dorethea Gibson of Easton, Joan Turner of Easton; an uncle, Douglas Gibson of Milford, Del.; an aunt, Frances Gibson Barnes of Washington, D.C.; one stepbrother, Charles Smothers of Easton; one sister-in-law, Gladys Turner of Trappe; an adopted mom, Hilda Young of Easton; an adopted son, Ikean Young of Easton; an adopted family, Tyler Young of Easton, Terence Young (Donna) of Royal Oak, Antoine Young of Laurel, Del., Keith Young of Easton and Johnna Young of Washington, D.C. He was also survived by numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren and cousins.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Wandell Turner and a sister, Wendy Turner.
Funeral services will be held at noon on April 25 at Scott United Methodist Church in Trappe where family and friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon.
Burial will be at the Maryland Veterans' Cemetery at Beulah.
Arrangements are being handled by the Bennie Smith Funeral Home.
Margaret A. Kavanaugh
LANCASTER, Pa. - Margaret A. Kavanaugh, 87, formerly of Baltimore, died April 20, 2006 at The Glen at Willow Valley.
She was the daughter of the late Joseph R. and Mary A. Dunnock Shenton. She was the wife of the late Charles E. Kavanugh who died in 1993.
Mrs. Kavanaugh was a member of the Institute of Notre Dame in Baltimore.
She is the last of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary J. Shenton and brothers, John Shenton, Philip Shenton and Louis Shenton.
A funeral service w ill be held 10 a.m. April 24 at the Kearney A. Snyder Funeral Home, 141 E. Orange St., Lancaster, Pa.
Friends may call 9 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home preceding the service. Burial will be at 1 p.m. in Parkwood Cemetery in Baltimore.
Mildred A. Williamson
FEDERALSBURG - Mildred Alma Williamson, 78, passed away at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, on Wednesday, April 19, 2006.
She was born on Jan. 29, 1928 at Clara, in Somerset County, the daughter of the late Edward Cox and Della Alexander Cox. She was preceded in death by her husbands Earl J. Williams and Harvey W. Williamson.
She was educated in the Wicomico County School system. Mrs. Williamson worked for many years for the former Federal Sportswear in Federalsburg and was a member of the Independent Ladies Garment Workers Union.
She attended Rockawalkin United Methodist Church.
She enjoyed her family and "grand dogs" and was a frequent visitor at yard sales and flea markets. She enjoyed canning, sewing and telling stories. She also enjoyed going to country music concerts whenever possible.
Mrs. Williamson is survived by her daughter, Dottie A. Byrd and her husband, Lewrenza of Quantico; two sons, Earl E. Williams of Whitehaven and William W. Williamson of Jacksonville, Fla.; five grandchildren, Darlene Phillips and friend, Jeff Shippe of Wake Forest, N.C., Debbie A. Wilkins and husband, Chris of Salisbury, Darrel Lew Byrd and wife, Melissa of Quantico, John Williamson and his wife, Carrie, of Delmar, and Jason E. Williamson and friend, Sherry of Millsboro, Del.; six grandchildren, Michael A. Wilkins at the University of Maryland at College Park, Jeffrey W. Wilkins, Carolyn N. Wilkins and Coby T. Wilkins, all of Salisbury and Aiden Williamson and Ava Mae Williamson of Millsboro, Del. and two sisters, Betty Brown of Salisbury and Marie Michael and her husband, Mike of Ellicott City and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Candy Kay Williamson; a grandson, Jason Williams and two brothers, Bobby Cox and Edward Cox.
Funeral services for her will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, at Framptom Funeral Home, P.A. in Federalsburg with the Rev. Tom Blakelock officiating. Burial will follow in Bloomery Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 7 - 9 p.m..
