DOROTHY W. CONRAD
Dorothy Williams Conrad, 86, LaVale, died on Sunday, Aug. 19, 2007, at her home.
Born Aug. 24, 1920, in Frostburg, she was a daughter of the late Cambria Williams and Emma (Whetstone) Williams. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Camey Williams Jr.
She was a member of the First Congregation Church of Frostburg and a graduate of Frostburg State University, class of 1942.
She taught at the Ellerslie and Eckhart elementary schools and was a substitute teacher at Frostburg elementary schools.
She is survived by her husband, Harold Rae Conrad Sr.; her sons, Harold "Butch" Conrad Jr., Deep Creek Lake, and Steve Conrad, Cumberland; her sister, Virginia W. Kelly, Frostburg; and three grandchildren.
Visitation, services, and interment will be private.
The family requests that memorials be made to the First Congregational Church, Bowery St., Frostburg, MD 21532.
ALONZO SIMS
Alonzo "Lonnie" Sims, 81, a native and longtime resident of Kitzmiller, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2007.
He was a member of United Steel Workers Local 2345; staff representative for the United Steel Workers of America S.O.A.R.; Masonic Lodge of Louisville, Ohio; and Scottish Rite, Valley of Columbus.
He is survived by his loving wife Rita; children Rita Lynn Humbert, Dick (Pam) Sims, Evelyn Kay (Dean) Thomas, Gale Raye (Mark) Kirkman, and Lu Ann (Chad) Bourcier; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
In honoring the request of Lonnie there will be no service.

STANLEY M. COULTER
Stanley M. Coulter, 68, Oakland, died Thursday, Aug. 25, 2007, at his home.
Born on Nov. 4, 1938, in Lancaster, Pa., he was a son of the late Fred A. and Lilith (Tenner) Coulter.
He was a member of the Oak Park Church of the Brethren.
He received his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Union College, Schenectady, N.Y., and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Carnegie Tech, Pittsburgh, Pa.
He was a member of the Oakland AARP and taught the tax preparation course.
He is survived by his wife, Ethel (Hart) Coulter; one daughter, Susan A. Mikesell, Pittsburgh, Pa.; two sons, Kinley H. Coulter, Juniata County, Pa., and Mark T. Coulter, Monroeville, Pa.; one brother, Richard Coulter, Tacoma, Wash.; and 13 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at the Oak Park Church of the Brethren, Oakland, on Saturday, Aug. 25, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Mel Menker officiating.
Friends may call at the church one hour prior to services.
The Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, is in charge of arrangements.
PAUL A. MOYERS
Paul Allen Moyers, 57, LaVale, died on Monday, Aug. 20, 2007, the result of an automobile accident on George Street, LaVale.
Born Oct. 11, 1949, in Kitzmiller, he was the son of the late Delores (Elrick) Sharpless.
Paul was employed by the Cumberland Housing Authority.
He is survived by his daughter, Christine M. Blank, Cumberland; his sister, Rosemary Smith, Virginia Beach, Va.; and two grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, Cumberland, today, Thursday, Aug. 23, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., where a service will be conducted on Friday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Eric Ruble officiating.

PAUL H. BITTINGER
Paul H. Bittinger, 84, Frostburg, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2007, at his residence.
Born May 18, 1923, in Grantsville, he was a son of the late John Samuel Bittinger and Clara Ellen (Burkholder) Bittinger. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Edna Ellen (Crowe) Bittinger; four brothers, Reuben, Sammy, Calvin, and infant Carl; five sisters, baby Zelda, Bertha, Beulah, Frieda, and Ethel; and one great-grandchild.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a tech sergeant, and he was retired from Kelly Springfield Tire Co.
He is survived by one daughter, Diana Loy, Frostburg; two sons, Ronald and Eugene Bittinger, Frostburg; two sisters, Daisy Carlyle, Manassas, Va., and Ruth Moore, Culpeper, Va.; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, today, Thursday, Aug. 23, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., where a service will be held on Friday at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Jimmie Blair officiating.
Interment will be in the Frostburg Memorial Park.
Military honors will be accorded at graveside by the Farrady Post 24 Honor Guard.
DR. RICHARD C. SLOOP SR.
Dr. Richard Carlton Sloop Sr., 74, Frostburg, went to be with his Lord on August 17, 2007.
Surviving are his wife, Ethel Jane Warren Sloop, formerly of Martinsville, Va., and two children, Richard Carlton Sloop Jr., Leesburg, Va., and Camilla Jane Myers and husband David of Fort Ashby, W.Va. Grandchildren are Warren Conrad Sloop, Savannah Lee Sloop, Blake Ashley Myers, and Brooke Whitney Myers.
Also surviving are two sisters, JoAnn Simmers and husband Marvin of Atlanta and SuzAnn Sitar and husband John of Romney, W.Va.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Holland Sloop and Camilla Dovel Sloop of Harrisonburg, Va., and his brother, Thomas Douglas Sloop, also of Harrisonburg.
Dr. Sloop graduated from Harrisonburg High School, where he played football for the Blue Streaks. He graduated from Madison College – now James Madison University – in 1955 with a BS degree in education, and from George Washington University with an MA degree in education, an APC in education, and the EdD. He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa honorary educational fraternity at GWU.
At Osbourn High School in Manassas, Va., he taught college prep science and mathematics courses. While at Osbourn High School, he coached the first undefeated JV football team. From 1961 until 1996, Dr. Sloop taught physical science, re-search methods, and a variety of professional education courses at Frostburg State University. He was a member and advisor to the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity.
Dr. Sloop was a member and Worshipful Master of Mountain Lodge No. 99, A. F. and A. M., in Frostburg. He served as Grand Inspector for Masons in Maryland. He was a member of the Scottish Rite Cumberland Valley Consistory and a life member of the Frostburg Elks No. 470.
A member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church since 1961, he served on the church council several terms as property chairman.
Visitation was at Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Monday. The Masons held a memorial service at the funeral home Monday evening.
A funeral service was held Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 12, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Frostburg.
Interment was in Frostburg Memorial Park in Frostburg.
The pallbearers, all members of the TKE Fraternity, were William H. Graves, Dr. William D. Roy, Charles E. Bell, Robert Grimm, Dr. Ned Boehm, Denny Thomas, Ralph Jordan, Benny Wolford, and Joseph Nash. Honorary pallbearers were Eugene Lee, James Winn, Dr. Doug Cook, Dr. John Riley, Dr. James Cotton, William Nizinsky, and Don Everson.
In 1998 the Sloop Institute for Excellence in Leadership was established. Dr. Sloop considered this Institute to be his greatest honor. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to this Institute through the FSU Foundation at FSU in Frostburg.
PATTI A. TASKER
Patti A. Tasker, 48, Oakland, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2007, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born on Sept. 26, 1959, in Oakland, she was a daughter of Betty M. (Maule) Murphy, Oakland, and the late James W. Murphy Sr. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Stanley W. "Bucky" Tasker, in 2001.
She worked as a secretary in admissions and billing at the Garrett County Memorial Hospital.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by one daughter, Terri L. Tasker, Terra Alta, W.Va.; one son, Timothy W. Tasker, Oakland; one sister, Nancy J. Murphy, Oakland; two brothers, James W. Murphy Jr. and wife Donna, Valparaiso, Fla., and Randy A. Murphy and wife Sarah, Oakland; two grandchildren, Gavin Burgess and Keyonna Burgess, both of Terra Alta; one niece, Jennifer Murphy; and one nephew, James Murphy III.
Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, where a service was held Tuesday, Nov. 13, with Rev. Donald Matthews officiating.
Cremation followed the service.
NORMAN W. GIBB
Norman Wayne Gibb, 71, McHenry, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2007, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born Nov. 27, 1935, in Donora, Pa., he was the son of the late Daniel Jeffrey and Jean Louise (Browneller) Gibb.
He was a retired purchasing agent for Dravo Corporation, Pittsburgh, Pa., and later for Comstock Engineering, Pittsburgh.
He was a 40+ year member of the Belle Vernon Volunteer Fire Dept. He was also a member of the Oakland Golf Club. He had been a permanent resident of Garrett County for over 10 years, previously residing in Belle Vernon, Pa.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Accident, where a service was held Monday, Nov. 12, with the Rev. Donald Wilson officiating.
Interment was held in the Monongahela Cemetery, Monongahela, Pa.
