Veronica D. McKiernan
SALISBURY -- Veronica D. McKiernan, 85, of Salisbury died Sunday, May 8, 2005, at her daughter's house in Jackson, Tenn.
Born in Newark, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Stefan Nemeckay and the late Catherine Bartos Nemeckay.
Mrs. McKiernan graduated from Girls Vocational High School in Newark, where she was the class president. She was one of 13 children. She moved to Salisbury, where she lived for 38 years. She was a member of St. Francis de Sales Church in Salisbury. She also was the church secretary for Holy Innocents in Neptune, N.J. Mrs. McKiernan was a Girl Scout leader. She also was a dancer in the minstrel shows. She was an avid walker, gardener and softball supporter. She was a regular at Dayton's restaurant in Salisbury and had many friends at Wal-Mart and The Centre at Salisbury.
She is survived by two daughters, Eileen Leonard and her husband, Mason, of Jackson and Maureen Ambos and her husband, Charles, of Cinnaminson, N.J.; grandchildren, Mason Leonard Jr., Kara Allen, Eileen Nichols and Kiernan Leonard, all of Tennessee, and Keri Snedden and Chuck Ambos, both of New Jersey; great-grandchildren, Clyde, Connor, Sloane, Mason III and AnnaBeth, all of Tennessee, and George, Kiernan, Ali and Katie, all of New Jersey.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, George McKiernan.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday at noon at St. Francis de Sales Church in Salisbury, with calling hours from 11 a.m. to noon at St. Francis de Sales Church. Burial will be private.
Arrangements are being handled by Holloway Funeral Home at 501 Snow Hill Road in Salisbury.
George C. Swift
DELMAR -- George C. Swift, 89, of Delmar, and formerly of Crisfield, died Friday, May 6, 2005, at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury.
Born in Crisfield on Jan. 28, 1916, he was a son of the late Norman Cleveland and Georgia Swift.
He was a retired farmer, having worked for Cullen Farms for more than 20 years. He enjoyed raising chickens, and in his earlier years, was a self-employed mechanic. He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps camp in Garrett County, which was where he met his wife, Pauline. He truly loved people, and his family was his life.
As quoted by George, "This is what one kiss gave me": His wife of 70 years, Pauline Swift of Delmar; his son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Cathy Pasquith of Delmar, who lovingly and tenderly cared for him; two daughters, Betty Sterling and her husband, Howard, of Crisfield and Jackie Thornes of Salisbury; six grandchildren, Michelle Conrad and her husband, Patrick, of Niceville, Fla., Terri Townsend and her husband, Gary, of Salisbury, Steve Daniel of Jacksonville, Fla., William Thornes and wife, Carla, of Delmar, George Thornes and wife, Donna, of Salisbury and Paula Bell and husband, Tommy, of Pittsville; nine great-grandchildren, Carrie Dickerson and husband, Robert, Thomas Pasquith III, Cory Townsend and husband, Gary, Nicole Malone and husband, Jason, Stephanie Thornes, Ryan Thornes, Gabrielle Malone and Luke Malone, all of Salisbury, and Anastasia Daniel of Tennessee; two great-great-granddaughters who were the light of his life, Emily and Amber Dickerson; one brother, Norman Swift Jr., and his wife, Edna, of Crisfield; one sister, Niva Williams, and her husband, Elmer, of Girdletree; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, C. Frank Swift; a sister, Helen Boyer; and a grandson, Roman W. Thornes III.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield. The Rev. Philip Morris will officiate, and interment will follow in Sunnyridge Memorial Park near Crisfield. Friends may call Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Kenneth R. Cox
FEDERALSBURG -- Kenneth R. Cox of Federalsburg died Saturday, May 7, 2005, at Memorial Hospital at Easton. He was 71.
He was born Feb. 11, 1934, in American Corner, the son of Sidney Marie Trice Cox of Denton and the late Lloyd Wesley Cox.
He graduated from Federalsburg High School in the Class of 1953. He served his country in the U.S. Army. He started his career in trucking with the former Federal Trucking in Federalsburg, and then worked as a dispatcher for the former Caroline Poultry in Federalsburg. He had worked for Tri-State Trucking in Federalsburg for more than 30 years. He started his own business called Service Transport in the summer of 1991. He was known throughout the United States in the trucking industry. He loved to hunt and had his own beagles, and he enjoyed fishing and playing golf. He was a member of the Cambridge Elks, Moose Lodge in Easton and VFW Post No. 5246 in Federalsburg.
Besides his mother, Sidney Cox, he is survived by his wife, Kay Bee Cox; a son, Rodney Ray Cox and his wife, Danielle, of Hurlock; a daughter, Kelly Marie Cox Dayton and her husband, Tony, of Cambridge; three grandchildren, Mitchell Ray Dayton of Cambridge and Rachael Eileen Cox and Tyler Ray Cox, both of Hurlock; two sisters, Janice E. Robinson of Seaford and Deana M. Banning of Bridgeville; and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
A granddaughter, Marci Bee Dayton, died 18 hours after his death on May 8, 2005.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Union United Methodist Church in Federalsburg, with the Rev. David Heistand and the Rev. Drew Christian officiating. Interment will follow in East New Market cemetery in East New Market. Friends may call at the church from noon to 2 p.m. the day of the service. Serving as pallbearers will be Kenneth Fishell, J. Edward Banning, Donald Robinson, Alan Robinson, Gary Bee Sr., Jimmy Christopher, Duane Hilghman and Joe Williamson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Children's House at Johns Hopkins, 1915 McElderry St., Baltimore, Md. 21205.

Alice Catherine Jenkins
WESTOVER -- Alice Catherine Jenkins, 75, formerly of Howard County, Md., died Sunday, May 8, 2005, at her Westover residence after a short illness.
Born in Brookline, Mass., on Nov. 25, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Phillip and Alice Welch Murphy.
Mrs. Jenkins retired from government service with the U.S. State Department, USIA and the FDA with 20 years of service. She enjoyed music, cooking and traveling.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Charles M. Jenkins; a daughter, Catherine J. Smith and her husband, Royce, of Pocomoke City; a son, Kevin Jenkins and his fiancée, Teresa Voland, of Thurmont; a sister, Phyliss Adams and her husband, John, and a brother, Phillip Murphy and his wife, Judy, all of Natick, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held today at 2 p.m. at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Pocomoke City, officiated by Father William J. Porter. A private family visitation will be held prior to the Mass of Christian burial at the church.

Mary M. Marshall
HURLOCK -- Mary Margaret Marshall of Hurlock died Saturday, May 7, 2005, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. She was 76.
Born Jan. 11, 1929, in Easton, she was the daughter of the late James Henry Sr. and Mary E. Coulbourn Marshall. After graduating from St. Michaels High School in 1947, she worked for Montgomery Ward for 17 1/2 years until retiring in October 1973 for medical reasons.
She enjoyed her family gatherings, feeding the birds, gardening and listening to books on tape.
Miss Marshall is survived by a sister, Patricia A. Hurst of Secretary, and several nieces and nephews.
A brother, James H. Marshall Jr., died in 1998.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., in Easton, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park in Easton.

Heinefield, Annie

Annie Laura Heinefield of Rock Hall, Md. died on April 4, 2001 at Chestertown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was 91.
Born in Skinners Neck Rock Hall, Md. on December 13, 1909, she was the daughter of the late Herbert Wilmer and Sara Lillian Kendall Watson. She was the wife of the late Frank J. Heinefield who predeceased her in 1950.
Mrs. Heinefield worked for Vita Food, the Rock Hall Tomato Plant, Playtex of Dover Delaware, and the Defense Plant in Chestertown, Md. She was married
on March 30, 1929 to Frank Heinefield.
Mrs. Heinefield was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W. in Millington, Md. and Raum Chapel United Methodist Church in Rock Hall, Md.
She is survived by a son: Arthur Lee Heinefield of Rock Hall, Md., and a daughter: Laura Dean Puppe of Rock Hall, Md. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren. One son the late Joseph Heinefield and one daughter the late L. Audrey Nordhoff predeceased her.

Baker, Helen L.

Helen L. Baker of Queenstown died at Memorial Hospital at Easton on April 2, 2001. She was 87.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on July 18, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Byron and Florence Mercer Lyon. She attended school at the Bennetts Point Road schoolhouse, and later graduated from nursing school in N.J. She then enlisted in the U.S. Army during WWII, where she was a commissioned officer and served in the South Pacific. After being honorably discharged, she returned to Queenstown. She married
Albert I. Baker on January 19, 1946. They resided on Baker’s Acres on the Wye River where she was a homemaker. Mr. Baker predeceased her on July 23, 1987. Mrs. Baker enjoyed spending time with her family, and the lifetime offerings along the Wye River.
Mrs. Baker is survived by four sons, Wheeler R. Baker of Chester, Albert L. Baker, Theodore R. Baker and Thomas E. Baker, all of Queenstown; one daughter, Saundra B. Thorp of Queenstown; four sisters, Louise Curlett of Grasonville, Irene Sandford of Midland Park, N.J., Shirley Milke of Baltimore and Regina Snyder of Mt. Pleasant, TX; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by two brothers, Lee Lyon and Gerald Lyon, and two sisters, Hila Lyon and Ruth Thompson.
All services, as well as interment in Chesterfield Cemetery, will be private.
