Cheezum, Charles H.

Charles H. "Pop" Cheezum of Cordova died of lung disease on Wednesday, April 4, 2001 at Genesis Elder Care - The Pines, Easton. He was 90.
Born in Caroline County, May 23, 1910, he was the son of the late William Walton and Wilhelmina Fisher Cheezum. He married
the former Dorothy E. Grenadier. Mrs. Cheezum died July 10, 1997. He made his home in Cordova, Md for 52 years. A master carpenter, he worked for companies such as, Paul Day, Hershey Allen, Sr., Paul Henson and Eley Lumber Company from which he retired in 1975.
He was a member of the Easton Church of the Nazarene and the Cordova Volunteer Fire Company.
Mr. Cheezum is survived by five children, Eddie Cheezum of Hillsboro, MD, Evelyn O. Kemp of Cordova, MD, Jack W. Cheezum of Ridgely, MD, Paul W. Cheezum of Greensboro, MD and Joann M. Clough of Easton, MD; two brothers, Robert Cheezum of Easton, MD and Eugene Cheezum of Preston, MD; 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by 6 brothers and 2 sisters.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 9, 2001 at 2 PM at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, Easton where friends may call on Sunday afternoon from 2 to 4 PM and one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be at Greenmount Cemetery, Hillsboro, MD.
Christopher, Brett Jacob

Funeral services for Brett Jacob Christopher, the infant son of Harold Samuel, Jr. and Barbara Joan Hutchison Christopher of Cordova, who was stillborn on Tuesday, April 3, 2001 at the Memorial Hospital at Easton, will be held on Friday, April 6th, at 11 A. M. at The Fairview Church of The Brethren, Cordova. Burial will be at the Fairview Church Cemetery.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are a sister, Hailey M. Christopher, at home; his maternal grandparents, Harold A. and Regenia L. Hutchison of Cordova; his maternal great-grandmother, Dorothy Blizzard of Cordova; his paternal grandmother, Delores Christopher of Preston and his paternal great-grandmother, Hazel Christopher of Preston.
Memorial donations, in Brett's name, may be made to the Fairview Church of The Brethren, Cordova, MD 21625.

Galicki, John V.
April 4, 2001
John Victor Galicki of Queenstown died on April 4, 2001 at Heritage Harbor Nursing Home in Annapolis. He was 90.
Born on April 16, 1910, he was the son of the late Edward and Anna Galicki. He graduated from Poly Tech High School in Baltimore, and then began a career with Western Electric as a mechanical engineer. Mr. Galicki built the trans atlantic cable, and retired as manager of Western Electric after 45 years of service. He married
Clara F. Bullen in July of 1950, and she predeceased him on February 18, 1966. Mr. Galicki enjoyed hunting, and was a member of the Hunting Club in Rock Hall. He was also a member of St. Michael of the Ark Angel in Overlea.
Mr. Galicki is survived by a son, Richard E. Galicki of Westminster and a daughter, Denise G. Hunsucker of Queenstown.
Services will be held 11:00AM Monday, April 9, 2001 at St. Christopher’s Catholic Church, Chester. Family and friends may call at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., Chester on Sunday, April 8, 2001 from 3 till 5 and 7 till 9. Burial will be at Holy Rosary cemetery in Baltimore.

Griffith, Mary L.

Mrs. Mary L. Griffith, 73 years, of Millington, MD, died at the Kent & Queen Anne’s Hospital in Chestertown, MD
Born in Philadelphia, PA she was the daughter of the late Victor & Mary [Hunter] Berardy. She spent her formative years in the Philadelphia, PA and the Moorestown, N.Y. area. She and her husband George Leonard Gifford moved to the Millington area in 1955 and established residence working their dairy farm. She was a dedicated homemaker and worked by her husbands’ side for many years. She stopped farming in 1989 when her husband died. Mrs. Griffith was very family orientated and enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren. In her spare time she enjoyed baking, reading and listening to Gospel Music. When she became housebound she would talk to friends on the phone offering encouragements to them. She served as an inspiration for her family as she would standby all of their endeavors. She was an active member of the Alfa Omega Non-Denominational Church of Worton.
In addition to her parents and husband, 2 brothers, David Eugene Berardy and Rudy Berardy precede her in death.
She is survived by a daughter, Margaret Mary Holding of Millington, MD, 3 sons, Leonard A. Griffith of Ridgley, MD, Tim G. and Lacy H. Griffith both of Millington, MD, 4 brothers, Richard Berardy of California, John Berardy of Moorestown, NJ, Raymond Berardy of Marlton, NJ, Ted Berardy of Florida, 3 sisters, Gloria Carson of Moorestown, NJ Sandra Berardy of Florida, and Loretta DelPrato of Georgia, 6 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and a dear devoted friend Lori Pratt.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 6th, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. from the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 370 Cypress Street, Millington, MD. Friends and family may call 1 hour prior to services. Interment will be in the MD Veterans cemetery in Hurlock, MD where she will be buried with her husband.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her name to the Alfa – Omega Non-Denominational Church, PO Box 1031 Worton, MD.
Hickman, Walter W. "Hickey"

Walter W. “Hickey” Hickman of Chestertown, MD died on Sunday, April 1st, 2001 in the Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C. of heart failure. He was 74 years old.
Mr. Hickman owned and operated Eastern Shore Auto Supply Co. Inc. in Chestertown, MD for 42 years. He retired in 1999. Mr. Hickman was WWII, United States Navy veteran, and was a member of the Frank Jarman American Legion Post 36, Chestertown, MD. Mr. Hickman was also very active member of the Gideon’s International, and from his involvement in Gideon’s, Mr. Hickman started and continued leading Bible Study on Sunday’s at the Kent Co. Detention Center in Chestertown.
In his early years Mr. Hickman enjoyed playing baseball, and he spent a great deal of his time working on all types of machinery. Mr. Hickman was a very active member of the Church of the Nazarene in Chestertown, MD.
Mr. Hickman is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy Ann Hickman, 1 son Dale W. Hickman and his wife Bobbie of Centreville, MD; 2 granddaughters, Ashton and Kaylyn Hickman both of Centreville, MD
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 6th, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. from the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. 130 Speer Road, Chestertown, MD. Friends and family may call Thursday, April 5th 2001 from 7:00-9:00 p.m.

Patrick, Wilbur

Wilbur T. “Tom” Patrick, Jr. of Chestertown, Md. died on April 4, 2001 at University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore from complications of surgery. He was 64.
Born in Chestertown, Md. on September 28, 1936, he was the son of the late Wilbur T. Sr. and Edith Leddon Patrick.
Mr. Patrick was a 1954 graduate of Chestertown High School. He served his country in the U.S. Navy where he trained to be a medical corpsman. He served aboard the USS Hornet traveling to Hawaii, Japan, and the Philippines He was also stationed at Bethesda Naval Hospital. Upon his honorable discharge in 1957, he returned to Chestertown, Md. He worked for Campbell Soup Company in Chestertown, William Underwood Company in Dover, De., and later became a web offset printing pressman, working for Reynolds & Reynolds (formerly Eastern (Baltimore) Business Forms) in Chestertown for 19 years. He retired due to health related issues in 1992.
Always interested in sports, Mr. Patrick played softball for several teams in the Chestertown area. He later became manager for Baltimore Business Forms and Austin Carpet Softball Teams. He coached little league baseball and football. He was a member of the Frank M. Jarman American Legion Post #36 and the Chester River Yacht and Country Club where he loved to play golf. Mr. Patrick was also a devoted fan of the Baltimore Orioles, Maryland Terps, and Baltimore Ravens.
He is survived by his wife Flora Sparks Patrick of Chestertown, Md.; 2 sons: Wilbur Thomas Patrick III of Philadelphia, Pa. and Michael C. Patrick of Chestertown, Md.; a daughter: Laura C. Baxter of Chestertown, Md.; 3 grandchildren: Robbi Thomas Patrick, Christina, Lynn Baxter, and T.J. Baxter all of Chestertown, Md. and a brother: Calvin A. Patrick of Chestertown, Md.
Funeral Services will be held on Sunday April 8, 2001 at 2:00 P.M. at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home 130 Speer Rd. Chestertown, Md. where relatives and friends may call on Saturday April 7, 2001 between the hours of 4:00 and 6:00 P.M. Interment will be in Chester Cemetery. Anita M. Brecheen-Pinkerton of Stevensville died on April 4, 2001 at Anne Arundel Medical Center. She was 59.
Born on November 28, 1941 in San Diego, CA she was the daughter of the late Albert and Dorothy Henley Pinkerton. She attended school in CA, then moved to Maryland and resided in Montgomery Co. She was a homemaker until her children were raised, when she then obtained her Master Barber’s license and began a career as a barber in Montgomery Co. and later in Queen Anne’s Co. She was also a talented artist.
She is survived by her husband, Douglas F. Summerlin of Stevensville; two daughters, Lori M. and Mary Frances Brecheen; three sons, Ronald A., Terry L. and Robert E. Brecheen; a sister, Janice Hamilton; and fifteen grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at Stevensville cemetery on Friday, April 6, 2001 at 11:00AM. Family and friends may call at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., Chester, on Thursday April 5, 2001 from 7PM till 9PM.
Poole, Helen G.

Helen G. Poole of Preston, MD died on Sunday, April 1, 2001 at the Memorial Hospital, Easton. She was77.
Born November 29, 1923 in Delmar, MD, she was the daughter of the late Milton R. and Florence Elliott.
She was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years, and a member of the Daughters of America.
Mrs. Poole is survived by her husband Lloyd M. Poole, whom she married
August 2, 1941: four children, Phyllis Tallman of St. Michaels, MD, Ronald L. Poole of Laurel, DE, Teddy E. Poole of Preston, MD, and Gary M. Poole of Easton, MD; a sister, Louise Hastings of Seaford, DE; a brother, Samuel Elliott of Rehoboth, DE; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by a daughter, Patsy Bandoch who died October 6, 1998 and two grandsons, Chesley Lee Hargraves IV who died November 5, 1996 and Mike Bandoch who died June 16, 1990.
Funeral services will be held at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, Easton, on Wednesday, April 4, 2001 at 11:00 AM. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 7-8 PM. Burial will be at Jr. Order Cemetery, Preston.
