Erskine, Sallie Elizabeth

Sallie Elizabeth Erskine, of Easton, died at the Memorial Hospital at Easton on Sunday, August 5, 2001. She was 95.
Born in Easton, January 7, 1906, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Sarah Kirby. A lifelong resident of Easton, she, for many years provided day care for many children by whom she was known affectionately as "Nana"
Her husband, Huey J. Erskine, Sr. and her long-time companion, Bernard Barrow, are deceased.
Mrs. Erskine is survived by four daughters, Della Mae Vorwald and Helen V. Collins, both of Easton, Faye P. Willey of Cambridge and Doris F. Whistler of Wilmington, DE; two sons, Huey J. Erskine, Jr. and Richard B. Barrow, both of Easton and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Three children, Joyce A. Ero, Betty L. Fairbanks and Donald E. Erskine are deceased.
Funeral services will be held at the graveside at Spring Hill Cemetery, Easton, on Tuesday, August 7th, at 12 Noon.

Obituary For Charlotte Ann Bailey Hutsell
Charlotte Ann Bailey Hutsell of Clayton, De., died Monday, August 6, 2001 at the Silver Lake Nursing Center in Dover, De. She was 76.
Charlotte Ann Bailey Hutsell was born August 7, 1924, the daughter of the late Arthur P. Bailey and Lelia “Burke” Bailey in Cecilton, Md. Mrs. Hutsell was a member of the VFW Post 8801 Ladies Auxillary. Throughout her service with the VFW Post 8801 she held the position as the Chaplin for the Ladies Auxillary, she was the Poppy Lady for the Post, she organized Bingo for the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill in Smyrna, De. And helped with school flag education programs in schools in Clayton and Smyrna, De. Mrs. Hutsell was also a member of Ewell’s St. Paul United Methodist Church in Clayton, De. She loved helping others and her community and was well known as a good friend and neighbor to all. She also enjoyed playing baseball in her earlier years as well as watching the Orioles play and watching the Dallas Cowboys play football in her later years.

Watkins of Woodbridge, Va., and Rebecca Nickerson of Earlville, Md., two sister-in-laws, Blanche Bailey of Odessa, De., and Jessie Ruth Rayburn of Harriman, TN., one brother-in-law, Howard Gordon Hutsell of Dayton, TN., 6 nieces, Linda Ann Struebing of Spotsylvania, Va., Deborah L. Bigelow of Fredericksburg, Va., Barbara L. Waddell of Woodbridge, Va., Rebecca Styers of Kings Mountain, NC., Carolyn Subolefsky of Earlville, Md., and Betty Schrader of Newark, De., 9 nephews, Francis Bailey Jr. of Middletown, De., Stanley Bailey of New Castle, De., Jimmie Bailey of Earlville, Md., Bill Bailey of Cecilton, Md., Frankie Bailey of Middletown, De., Michael Bailey of Newark, De., Jimmy Bailey of Middletown, De., Billy Schrader of Earlville, Md., and George Schrader of Newark, De.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 10, 2001 at 11:00am at the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 226 East Main St. Cecilton, Md. Friends may call one hour prior.
Interment will be held at the Cecilton cemetery in Cecilton, Md.

Knopp Jr., Benjamin F.

Benjamin F. “Ben” Knopp Jr. of Easton died at the Memorial Hospital, Easton, on Saturday August 11, 2001.He was 77.
Born in Pitman NJ. on March 16, 1924, he was the son of the late Benjamin F. and Katherine Griffith Knopp. After attending public school in New Jersey, he became very involved in baseball, a passion that would remain through out his life. Before moving to Maryland in 1949, he had played class “D” baseball for the Yankee organization. On March 3, 1951 he married
the former Audrey Sewell and they made their home briefly in Kensington, Md. before moving to Easton that same year. He worked as a self-employed carpenter in and around the Easton area. He was very active in the local softball and baseball teams where he inspired many young men including Harold Baines. For the past 11 years, he worked the concession stand at the V.F.W. field and raised funds for the Talbot post 70 team for many years. In 1996, he received the honor of being inducted into the Eastern Shore Softball Hall of Fame. He was also Past Commissioner of the Tidewater Softball League.
A member of the Loyal Order of the Moose # 1520, Easton and was also a social member of the E.E. Streets V.F.W post 5118 and Post # 70 American Legion.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons; Kenneth Knopp, Kevin Knopp, Kraig Knopp, and Keith Knopp all of Easton; one daughter, Kimberly Knopp of Wittman; 5 grandchildren, Kenny, Kristy, David, Josh and Kelly and 3 great-grandchildren Caine, Kassidy and Madison; a brother Howard Knopp of Fairfield CA. and 3 sisters Thelma Scantz, Betty Knopp and Mildred Knopp all of New Jersey. He was pre-deceased by a daughter, Karen, who died in 1958, four brothers including Robert and one sister.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday August 14th at 11:00 AM at the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home P.A. Easton, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be at Springhill Cemetery, Easton.

Stipe, Regina Angelia
August 7, 2001
Regina Angelia Stipe of Stevensville, MD. died August 7th, 2001 at her long time friend’s home in King George, VA. She was 88.
Born on November 1, 1912 in Buffalo, NY the daughter of the late Carl & Antionette Francois. She was a graduate from St. Adelbert Master High School in Buffalo and later attended college. When WW II started she moved to Camp Le June, N.C. and worked for the Military in the accounting office. Mrs. Stipe would later work for the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. for about 30 years. She married
Raymond Stipe in November 10, 1950. They made their home in Alexandria, VA. Until 1963 when they moved to Stevensville, MD. Mr. Stipe predeceased her on April 28, 1980. She was a member of the American Legion Post 278 Ladies Auxliary, Kent Island Yacht Club; she helped start the Kent Island Volunteer Fire Department and had always helped her husband in the Kent Island Lions Club.
She survived by a dear friend Thelma Smith of King George, VA. and a stepson Vance Stipe of Nashville, Tenn.
A funeral mass will be held 11AM Friday August 10, 2001 at St. Christopher’s Catholic Church. Family & friends may call Thursday August 9, 2001 at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Chester, MD. form 7PM to 9PM. Burial will be in Arlington National cemetery on Thursday August 16, 2001 at 9AM.
Thompson, William Norman

William Norman Thompson of Easton, MD died on Wednesday, August 1, 2001 at Heartfields, Easton. He was 87.
Born November 13, 1913 in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late W. Norman and Mary Anthony Duvall Thompson. A 1930 graduate of Central High School, Washington, D.C., where he majored in art, he was awarded a prize for painting three panels on the history of education that were exhibited at the Chicago Worlds Fair. He later used this cash prize to attend the National Academy of Art in New York City. Upon his return to Washington, he worked for the U.S. Office of Education Radio Project, where he designed posters, publications and exhibitions. Also employed as an art editor for a special Naval Aviation publication, he was recognized for the excellence of a graphic chart showing employment in the U.S. Naval Aviation Dept. At the end of World War II he returned to the Office of Education to assist in all phases of graphic work such as exhibits, posters, illustrations, etc. and designed 50 traveling exhibitions on South America to be used in early classes of the study of South America. He was also chosen by President Eisenhower as a designer to alter a U.S. exhibition at the Brussels World fair.
Mr. Thompson is survived by his sister, Mary Duvall Thompson, of Easton, MD and several cousins.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, August 7, 2001 at 11:00 AM at the Oxford Cemetery, Oxford, MD.

Bailey, Josephine Veronica

Josephine Veronica Bailey of Easton died on Sunday, December 2, 2001 at Genesis Eldercare – The Pines. She was 73.
Born in Baltimore on February 12, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Veronica Assodowska Miedzienowski. She attended school in Baltimore City, and was married
for over twenty years to Richard Bailey of Hebron. She raised her family in Baltimore until 1965, then moved to Pasadena. Mrs. Bailey then worked for the Motor Vehicle Administration in Glen Burnie until 1990. After her divorce, she spent many years with Carroll Woody of Easton, where she moved after retiring.
Mrs. Bailey is survived by a daughter, Joanne Bailey of Stevensville; three sisters, Anna Knach, Agnes Burns and Nellie Gutkoska, all of Baltimore; a brother, Frank Miedzienowski of Baltimore; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Sophie Ulbinsky and Helen McCauley, and a brother, Stanley Miedzienowski.
A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 8, 2001 at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., Chester. Burial will be private.
Knox, Milton Cooper

Milton Cooper Knox of East New Market, MD, formerly of Easton, MD died on Monday, December 3, 2001 at Dorchester General Hospital, Cambridge, MD. He was 80.
Born in Wilmington, DE, January 16, 1921, he was the son of the late Milton Bartlett Paul and Daisy Pearl McQuay Knox. As a child he moved with his family to Talbot County where he attended public school. He served in the Maryland National Guard and the United States Army for a brief time during WWII. A carpenter, he had spent his lifetime in the construction business, including twenty-eight years with Wm. A. Knox, contractor, before retiring in 1983.
A former member of the Talbot Rod and Gun Club, he was also a member of the Talbot Post 70, American Legion.
Mr. Knox wife, the former Anna Mae Marshall whom he married
in July of 1940, died in March of 1997.
Mr. Knox is survived by a sister, Daisy P. Daubach of Easton, MD and a brother, Thomas R. Knox of Queenstown, MD.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 7, 2001 at 11:00 AM at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, Easton, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be at Spring Hill Cemetery, Easton, MD.
