Kirwan, Franklin Wright

Franklin Wright Kirwan of Easton, MD died on Tuesday, August 6, 2002 at Memorial Hospital at Easton. He was 65.
Born May 28, 1937 in Linkwood, MD, he was the son of the late Ralph Benjamin and Mildred Foxwell Kirwan. After graduating from Easton High School in 1956 he served in the U.S. Air Force. Following his release from active duty he worked at Bata Shoe Store until 1965. He then went to work for Hallowell Chevrolet where he remained until retiring in 1995 due to health.
Mr. Kirwan is survived by two brothers, Philip L. Kirwan, Sr. of Trappe and Russell E. Kirwan of Easton; and several nieces and nephews. Three brothers, Percy R. Kirwan, Benjamin T. Kirwan and Ralph B. Kirwan, Jr. and one sister, Kathleen A. Patchett are deceased.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 2, 2002 at 2:00 PM at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., Easton, MD where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be at Whitemarsh Cemetery, Trappe, MD.
Long, Doloros

Doloros May Long of Betterton, MD died suddenly on Sunday, August 4, 2002 at Kent and Queen Anne’s Hospital in Chestertown, MD. She was 72.
Born in Booklawn, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Gladys Jones Eberhard. She was the wife and cherished companion of Robert L. Long of Betterton, MD.
Mrs. Long was a graduate of Gloucester High School class of 1948 and worked as a young woman at Betterton Beach in the late 1940’s and early 1950’s, she also worked briefly with Aberdeen Proving Grounds. She returned to New Jersey and worked with RCA-Langston Radio Corporation in Bellmawr, NJ. She and her husband retired to Betterton, Maryland in 1989. There she was a member of American Legion Post # 246 and served as secretary of the Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing Bingo, crossword puzzles, and volunteering.
In addition to her husband of 25 years, Robert Long, she is survived by two sons, David Volk and his wife, Karen of Lake Helen, FL and Adam Gayton and his wife, Patricia of Newport News, VA; a daughter, Doloros Keith and her husband, Charles of Richmond, VA; 5 stepchildren and 17 grandchildren.
Services will be held privately.

Marshall, Mary Patricia

Mary Patricia Marshall, of Oxford, died at The Memorial Hospital at Easton on Tuesday, August 6, 2002. She was 63.
Born in Easton, April 4, 1939, she was the daughter of Mary L. Jump Armentrout of Oxford and the late George Allen Greenhaulk. After attending public school, she worked at the Delmarva Narrow Fabric Plant in Easton from 1955 until her marriage on Nov. 15, 1968 to Albert N. Marshall, Jr. This marriage ended in divorce.
A resident of Talbot County for the majority of her life, she was a member of the Easton Church of God.
Surviving, in addition to her mother, are a son, Albert N. Marshall III of Oxford and a sister, Marjorie Armentrout Morris of Powellville, MD.
Memorial services will be held at the graveside at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Easton, on Tuesday, August 13th, at 2 P.M.
Memorial donations may be made to the Easton Church of God, 1009 N. Washington St., Easton, MD 21601.

Adams, Robert David
December 2, 2002
Robert David Adams, of Oxford and formerly of Trappe, died at the St. Mary’s Hospital, Leonardtown, Maryland on Monday, December 2, 2002. He was 70.
Born in Trappe, July 19, 1932, he was the son of the late Maurice T. and Erva Harrison Adams. After graduating from Easton High School in 1949, he served in the U. S. Army with the 7TH Calvary from 1949 until 1951. Following his release from the U. S. Army, he joined the U. S. Marine Corps and served in Korea with the Ist Marine Brigade. Among his several decorations were included the Purple Heart, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the Japanese Occupation Medal and the National Defense Medal. Following his release from active duty with the Marines, he returned to Talbot County where he worked as a contractor and, later, estate caretaker.
Mr. Adams is survived by his wife, the former Frieda Petts; six children, R. David Adams, Jr. of Atlanta, GA, Daniel M. Adams of Trappe, Julie Lowry of Federalsburg, Valerie Adams of Oxford, Michelle Brie of Atlanta, GA and G. Shane Adams of Atlanta, GA; two sisters, Rosemary A. Baynard of Trappe and Maureen A. Twining of Baltimore; six brothers, Anthony B. Adams, Ormond H. Adams, Dorrell L. Adams, Rev. Ellery Adams, Rodney R. Adams, all of Trappe and Michael K. Adams of Savannah, GA; eight grandchildren, Guy Lee Lowry, Hope Lowry, Katy Lowry, Logan Adams, Lyston Adams, Kirston Adams, Connor Adams and Shannon Adams.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 6, 2002 at 11:00 AM at the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans cemetery Chapel, Hurlock, MD.

Compton, Lawrence

Lawrence Hamlin Compton of Chestertown, Md., died Monday, December 2, 2002 at the Kent and Queen Anne’s Hospital in Chestertown, Md. He was 84.
Lawrence H. Compton was born October 11, 1918, in Hazleton, Pa., the son of the late Harry Walter and Hazel “Smith” Compton. Mr. Compton graduated from Lehigh University with a B.S. Degree in 1941. Soon after in 1942, he married
his first wife Virginia Bach Dennis. She preceded him in death in 1971. Mr. Compton then remarried in 1972 to his present wife Hazel Carson Compton.
Lawrence H. Compton was employed by E.I. duPont de Nemours Co. Inc., in the fields of Engineering, Production, and Employee Relations from 1941 thru 1979. He retired to the Eastern Shore, first to the former Basket Factory Property on Gray’s Inn Creek until building a new home on Coopers Ln. in 1988. As an avid sailor Mr. Compton was an active member of the United States Poner Squadron in Morristown, N.J. in boating education. Mr. Compton was an active member of Wesley Chapel Church in Rock Hall, Md.
Lawrence H. Compton is survived by his wife Hazel Carson Compton of Chestertown, Md., three daughters, Ann Virginia Clark of Woodland Hills, Ca., Susan V. Compton of Ithaca, NY., and Pamela C. Shea of Fremont, Ca., one step daughter, Darleen B. Caskey of Rochester, NY., one step son, Darryl Bowman of Catharpin, Va., seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
A Memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 8, 2002 at 2:00 PM at Wesley Chapel Church in Rock Hall, Md.

Shirley T. Schuyler of Church Hill, MD died on Thursday, December 5, 2002 at Kent & Queen Anne’s Hospital, Chestertown, Md. She was 63.
Born on July 13, 1939 in Church Hill, MD, she was the daughter of the late Howard G. and Margaret E. Thompson. She was a graduate of Centreville High School, Centreville, Md. After graduating high school she married
Daniel Z. Schuyler on December 20, 1969.
Mrs. Schuyler was a good provider. She owned and operated an assistant living center ”Schuyler House” in Church Hill, MD since 1965. She loved taking care of the elderly. She also enjoyed cooking.
She is survived by her husband, Daniel Zedox Schuyler of 33 years; a stepson, Daniel Schuyler, Jr. of Tilghman Island, MD; two step grandchildren, Morgan Schuyler and Nicholas Schuyler both of Maryland; a brother, Charles Thompson of Church Hill, MD; a niece, Vicky Higgs of Church Hill, MD; a cousin, Debbie Wilson of Church Hill, MD and a second cousin, Michael Carroll of Church Hill, MD.
Family will receive friends at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, Chestertown, MD on Monday, December 9, 2002 from 7 PM until 9 PM. Services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, December 10, 2002 at 2:00 PM. Interment will be in Church Hill Cemetery, Church Hill, MD.

Simmons, Walter

Walter Albert Simmons of Rock Hall, Md. died on Sunday, December 1, 2002 at his residence. He was 85.
Born on April 10, 1917 in Philadelphia, Pa. he was the son of the late Walter Philip and Anne Corney Simmons. He graduated from Germantown High School and attended Drexel University where he studied Marine Engineering and the University of Pennsylvania where he studied Naval Architecture. He married
Marian Beuerle on August 18, 1941. Mr. Simmons worked with the Brazilian Naval Department from 1940-1941 then as a project engineer with Philadelphia Naval Air Engineering Center 1941-1973. During this time he also operated a Navel Architectural and Aeronautical Engineering practice. From 1973 until 1989 he also worked as a Marine Surveyor. Mr. Simmons was owner and captain of several party fishing boats and designed over 400 fishing boats from 35 to 110 feet. He and his family owned and operated a marina in Wildwood, NJ for 25 years prior to moving to Rock Hall, Md. He was a member of the Rock Hall Lions club, past president, Davis Creek Yacht Club, Rock Hall Yacht Club, Old Salts Society, where he was an honorary Admiral, Chester River Yacht and County Club, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, where he served as past Jr. Warden and on the Vestry, Board of Directors of Hospice. He received many awards and outstanding achievements including. Special projects that Walter worked on as a civilian employed by the Philadelphia Naval Air Engineering Center these were: Surface Effect Air Boats, Floating City for Hawaii, Advanced concepts for ships, Paddle Wheel boat for Thailand, Aircraft carrier catapults and arresting gear. He was also a private airplane pilot. He was awarded a U.S. Cost Guard License to operate vessels up to 100 tons at age 16. He loved sailing and all marine vessels.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years Marian E. Simmons, son: Walter J. Simmons and his wife Arlene of Martinsburg, WV, and two grandchildren: Dawn Lynch and her husband J.P. Lynch of Martinsburg, WV., and W. Neal Simmons and his wife Becky Simmons of Durham, NC., and a great grand daughter Anna Lynch.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2002 at 11:00 AM at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Chestertown, Md. Interment will be in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Cemetery, Chestertown, Md. Thomas, Harold Jerome

Harold J. Thomas, of Easton, MD died at the Memorial Hospital at Easton, MD on Monday, December 2, 2002. He was 52.
Born in Pelham, GA, July 13, 1950, he was the son of Lillie Pearl Porter Wright of Daytona Beach, FL and the late Albert Wright. After graduating from Campbell Senior High School in Daytona Beach, FL in 1968, he attended Morris Brown College in Atlanta, GA where he earned his B. S. Degree and was a member of the Omega Si Phi Fraternity. Following graduation, he worked for the Miller Brewing Company in Syracuse, NY as a Production Supervisor. He then owned and operated the Island Mist Golf Center in Little River, NC. In 1998, he was employed by B. & G. Foods, Inc. in Hurlock, MD as Production Supervisor and later Safety Manager, positions he held until his illness. He was also the owner of a sports apparel firm, Bold Image, Inc., at the time of his death.
A resident of Easton since 1999, he enjoyed playing golf and was an avid collector of art, wildlife, African and Native American.
A wonderful father and husband, he is survived, in addition to his mother, by his wife, the former Jacquelyn Gonnella whom he married
on May 25, 1996; a daughter, Maya O. Thomas, at home; five sisters, Jackye Porter Hudson of Vero Beach, FL, Gloria Moody of Daytona Beach, FL, Zelma McKinney of Manchester, N.H., Deedria McDuffie of Albany, GA and Cynthia Williams of Miami, FL; two brothers, Emory Thomas, Jr. of Daytona Beach, FL. and Ronald G. Wright of Houston, TX. and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 6th, at 2 P.M. at the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., Easton, where friends may call one hour prior to service.
Burial will be at the Oxford Cemetery, Oxford, MD.
