Mary Goforth Curtis
CHINCOTEAGUE -- Mary Goforth Curtis, 81, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 5, 2005.
She was born June 25, 1923, in Glen Alpine, N.C., a daughter of the late Rev. R.C. Goforth and Elsie Mitchell Goforth.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Marshall Curtis; her sister, Dorothy Goforth Melvin; her brother, Robert C. Goforth; her daughter, Pat Wahab, and son-in-law, John Wahab; her daughter, Elaine Connell, and son-in-law, Mike Connell; her daughter, Mary Anne Daisey, and son-in-law, Tommy Daisey; her daughter, Suzette Sockwell, and son-in-law, Ron Sockwell; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A brother, Marcus Goforth, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Curtis taught home economics in North Carolina and Chincoteague after graduating from Greensboro College in Greensboro, N.C.
A funeral service was held Sunday at Atlantic United Methodist Church in Atlantic. A service will be held today at Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Climax, N.C., near Greensboro.

Richard G. Ward
SALISBURY -- Richard G. Ward, 64, of Salisbury died Monday, May 9, 2005, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
Born in Crisfield, he was the son of the late Grover and Ruth Lewis Ward.
Mr. Ward was a member of the Elks Club in Crisfield. He was in the construction management business for many years and in earlier years built several homes. He was also known for helping his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Maureen B. Sterling Ward; three daughters and their husbands, Beth and Edward Schaufert and Penny and Greg Bethard, all of Marion Station, and Denise and Kevin Chelton of Salisbury; grandchildren, Jessica Cook and her husband, Charles, of Salisbury, Melissa Chelton of Salisbury, Eric Schaufert of Crisfield and Ashley Bethard, Emily Bethard and Sydney Bethard, all of Marion Station; great-grandchildren, Aidan Cook and Peyton Cline, both of Salisbury; two sisters and their husbands, Ruth Ann and Charles Massey of Princess Anne and Ellen and Howard Ward of Crisfield; and two loving pets, Sasha and Peppy.
A memorial service will be held at Immanuel Wesleyan Church in Crisfield on Monday at 2:30 p.m. The Rev. Robert Daniels will officiate.

Daniel D. Peters
DELMAR -- Daniel D. Peters, 88, of Delmar died Monday, May 9, 2005, at his home.
Born in Dunmore, Pa., he was the son of the late Joseph and Carmella Mafulo Peters.
Mr. Peters graduated from Penn State University in 1951, worked as an Eastern Air Lines pilot for 10 years, moved to Salisbury in 1967 and retired from being a schoolteacher in 1979. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge No. 700 Penn State, and was a 32nd degree in the Scottish Rite bodies of Salisbury, Elks Lodge No. 817, Maryland Retired Teachers Association and AARP. A retired major from the U.S. Air Force who served in World War II in all theaters of operation, he was a member of the Reserve Officers Association in Washington, D.C., and the local chapters, the Fourth Ferry Group ATC and a life member of DAV.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sylvia Peters of Delmar; a son, Daniel Gordon Peters and his wife, Julie, of Salisbury; a daughter, Teresa Lynn Peters of Minneapolis; two grandchildren, Trevor and Sophia Peters; four brothers, Stephen Peters of Gainsville, Ga., John Peters of Newark, Del., Joseph Peters of Swansboro, N.C., and Anthony Peters of Nicholson, Pa.; four sisters, Anna Orlaski of Oxon Hill, Md., Margaret Mason of Minneapolis, Marie Hudick of Harrisonburg, Va., and Madeline Brust of Dalton, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Michael Peters, Peter M. Peters and Frank Peters.
A funeral service will be held Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at Bounds Funeral Home on East Main Street in Salisbury. Interment will follow in Springhill Memory Gardens near Hebron. Friends may call Saturday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Marion Levin Smith
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Marion Levin Smith, 65, of North Providence, and formerly of Salisbury, died peacefully at his home Sunday, May 1, 2005.
He was the loving husband of Irene R. (Giannini) Smith. They were married
for 25 years.
Born in Salisbury on Dec. 2, 1939, he was a son of the late Marion and Grace (Huntington) Smith.
Besides his loving wife, he leaves five daughters, Brenda L. Flores of Salisbury and Doreen O'Brien, Lisa Ann Smith, Kathy Ferland and Faith Smith, all of Rhode Island; two sons, Michael Smith of Arizona and Christopher Smith of Rhode Island; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three nephews.
He was the father of the late Richard Smith, formerly of Salisbury.
Burial services were private.
Jody Leonard Feather
SALISBURY -- Jody Leonard Feather, 41, of Salisbury died Sunday, May 8, 2005, in Trappe.
Born in Salisbury, he was the son of Shirley MicKelsen and Frank K. Feather and stepmother, Deborah Feather.
He served briefly in the U.S. Army. He was a loving father and grandfather. He loved to cook and was a chef for nine years at LaRoma Italian Restaurant.
He is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Scott and her husband, Walter Scott III, of Salisbury and their children, Kennedy and Alyssa Scott; a daughter, Stacey Smoot; a son, Cody Smoot; two brothers, Frank Feather II and Kenneth Feather; three sisters, Christina Mulford, Sheree Marcey and Tammy Melson; and several nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like contributions made to Holloway Funeral Home, 501 Snow Hill Road, Salisbury, Md. 21804 to help with payment of expenses.

Merton F. Filkins, Col. (Ret.)
BOSSIER CITY, La. -- Merton F. Filkins, Col. (Ret.) JAGUSAF, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2005, after a lengthy illness of complications from Parkinson's disease.
He was born and raised on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. He was a member of the U.S. Marine Corps (1948-1952) during the Korean War. Col. Filkins served four years in the Marine Corps and 27 years in the U.S. Air Force. He graduated from the University of Maryland School of Law, passed the Maryland State Bar and was admitted to practice before several state bars, including the U.S. Supreme Court.
He served in several legal positions, including the Judge Advocate General, Barksdale Air Force Base Strategic Air Command, United Nations Command, Seoul, Korea, and Staff Judge Advocate of the Space and Missile Command at Patrick Air Force Base in Florida. He was a devoted husband and father.
He is survived by his wife, Joie; three children, Joie Lola, Marcus and Tierney; their spouses, Stephen, Annamaria and Tom; and four grandchildren, Joie M., Jessica, Justin and Timothy.
Funeral services will be held at Rose-Neath's Bossier Chapel in Bossier City today at 7:30 p.m. Officiating will be Chaplain Debbie Woods of Odyssey Hospice. Visitation will be from 6:30 p.m. until service time. Burial will be in Arlington National cemetery in Washington, D.C.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Odyssey Hospice, Brenda and Jamie, his angels and Gentiva Health Services, Marigrace and Jane, his angels.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Parkinson's Foundation.

Frances Elizabeth Saunders
HURLOCK -- Frances Elizabeth Saunders, 85, of Hurlock died Sunday, May 8, 2005, at her residence.
Born Nov. 8, 1919, in Crapo, she was a daughter of the late Brice M. Wroten and Lula Adams Wroten.
She loved traveling, working in her garden, walking around the town of Hurlock and giving gifts of love to her family and friends through her cooking.
She was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church and AARP. She volunteered at Pleasant Day Adult Day Care Center in Cambridge.
She is survived by two daughters, Joyce Ann Wilson of Salisbury and Patricia Lee Price of Easton; six grandchildren, Lisa Pruitt, David Greenhawk, Joseph Greenhawk, Curtis Krams, Chris Price and Kim Hurlock; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, George Saunders, and one sister, Lucille M. Wright.
A viewing will be held Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Zeller Funeral Home in East New Market, where a prayer service will be held at 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Secretary. The Rev. Anthony F. Greco will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Mike Pruitt, David Greenhawk, Joseph Greenhawk, Curtis Krams, Chris Price and Mark Hurlock.
