John L. Stallings Jr.
OCEAN PINES -- John L. Stallings Jr., 77, of Ocean Pines died Friday, Dec. 23, 2005.
Born in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late John L. Stallings Sr. and Mary Ann Uhlhorn Stallings.
John was a naval reservist during World War II. He later retired from C&P; Telephone Co. as an engineer.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Emily; two sons, John III of Baltimore and Thomas G. and his wife, Donna, of Westminster, Md.; three daughters, Susan E. Brownstein and her husband, Milton, of Towson, Md., Amy Roy and her husband, Rob, of Manhattan, N.Y., and Rebecca A. Stallings of Frederick, Md.; and nine grandchildren, Jennifer, Jamie, Melissa, Laura, Eric, Lauren, Daniel, Marcella and Allison.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in his honor to the Joseph House Crisis Center, PO Box 1755, Salisbury, Md. 21802.
Arrangements are being handled by Burbage Funeral Home.
Jeffrey Scott Long
SALISBURY -- Jeffrey Scott Long, 46, of Springdale, Ariz., and formerly of Salisbury, died Saturday, Dec. 17, 2005, of congestive heart failure. He spent nine years in Alaska.
Scott, a son of Nancy Long-Marvel and the late Phil Long, was born April 29, 1959.
He graduated from Wicomico High School and was a Coast Guard veteran. Early on, he was an iron worker, welder and metal and wood craftsman. At the time of his death, he was a parts manager at Montana Tractors.
In addition to his mother, Scott is survived by his wife, Colleen; his son, Josh Long; father-in-law, Jack McTaggart; brother, Rodney Long; sister-in-law, Melinda Long; nephew, Tyler Long; aunts, Joyce Smith and Sis Bowie; and uncle, Bob Bowie. He is also survived by cousins, Terri Nichols, Steve Smith, Sandy Goslee and Stephanie Harper.
Following cremation, a memorial service was held in Springdale.
Jeanette Pause
EASTON -- Mrs. Jeanette Pause passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec. 26, 2005, at William Hill Manor Rehabilitation Center in Easton.
She was born April 10, 1910, in Bruce County, Ontario, Canada. She was one of three triplets born to the late John and Louise Bechkerger. After completing school, she moved to Buffalo, N.Y., and accepted a job as the nanny and housekeeper for the mayor of Buffalo.
She met and married
Richard May Pause in 1932 and raised her only child, Joan Pause Evey. After many years of living on her own, she traveled to Salisbury and lived with her only daughter until death.
She was a member of the Happy Timers and attended the Mount Hermon Methodist Lunch/Bible Study group. For many years, she was a faithful member of St. Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church in Salisbury until she transferred to Our Lady of Good Counsel in Secretary.
Her husband of 53 years, Richard Pause, preceded her in death. In addition, eight siblings also preceded her.
She is survived by her daughter and husband, Joan and William Evey of Preston. She has three surviving grandchildren, Donald and Sarah Nash Jr. of Fredonia, N.Y., Brenda Di Mills of West Seneca, N.Y., and Ellen Bate of Portland, Ore. In addition, she was blessed with seven beautiful great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel in Secretary. Final interment will be at White Chapel in Amherst, N.Y., private to family and relatives, at a date to be announced.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to her church, Our Lady of Good Counsel, PO Box 79, Secretary, Md. 21664.

Theophilus O. Bowen Sr.
BERLIN -- Theophilus O. Bowen Sr. (Theo, The'), 88, of Schoolfield Street died Monday, Jan. 23, 2006, at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin.
Born in Berlin, he was the son of the late Samuel W. Bowen Sr. and Martha Foreman Bowen. His late wife, Flossie Pitts Bowen, died in 1995.
He retired as a truck driver after 29 years with the former Paramount -- Cargil Poultry Plant, now Allen Foods, of Harbeson.
He was a lifelong member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Berlin, where he served on the Usher Board since 1962, United Methodist Men, Prayer and Praise Services, Bible Study, Sunday school and was a member of Delmarva Ushers Association.
His survivors include three daughters and two sons, Queen Satchell and husband, Solomon, Ruby Baker and husband, Robert, Glendola Whaley and husband, Preston, Robert Briddell and wife, Mary, and Theophilus Bowen Jr. and wife, Linda, all of Berlin; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Ellen Cater of Selbyville and Ida Whaley of Frankford; one brother-in-law, Frankie Pitts of Georgetown; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Three brothers and four sisters preceded him in death.
A funeral service will be held Saturday at noon at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Berlin, where friends may call Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Saturday one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Services are entrusted to Jolley Memorial Chapel in Salisbury.
Florence M. Truitt
LAUREL -- Florence M. Truitt, 76, of Laurel died Friday, Jan. 27, 2006, at Life Care at Lofland Park in Seaford.
Mrs. Truitt was a seamstress for Laurel Manufacturing and Manhattan Shirt Factory in Salisbury and then in Seaford.
She was the daughter of the late Frank and Lilly Gootee. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Henry Truitt Sr., in 1958 and a son, William Henry Truitt Jr.
Florence is survived by her sons, Michael Truitt and his wife, Laurie, of Seaford and Larry Truitt and his wife, Barbara, of Salisbury; four brothers, George Gootee of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Ralph Gootee and his wife, Toni, of Laurel, Robert Gootee of Mardela Springs and Gardner Gootee and his wife, Shirley, of Delmar; four sisters, Kathryn Ward and her husband, James, of Seaford, Ann Littleton of Laurel, Margie Smith of Milford and Bessie Foskey of Seaford. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Tanya Schott, Zachary Truitt, Holly Wilkerson and Amanda Truitt; and four great-grandchildren, William Baker, Elyssia King, Gage Schott and Cierra Wilkinson.
Memorial services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church at 22025 Atlanta Road in Seaford.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 1138 Parsons Road, Salisbury, Md. 21801.

Richard Earl Mercer
SALISBURY -- Richard Earl Mercer, 79, of Salisbury died Friday, Jan. 27, 2006, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
Born in Packwood, Iowa, he was a son of the late Samuel Edward Mercer and Iva Luellen Ramsey Mercer.
Mr. Mercer was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a lifetime member of the Elks. He came to Salisbury in 1959 as a store manager for Giant Food and then worked as vice president and general manager for Mardelva News Co. for 30 years, retiring in 1993. His retirement was fun, filled with playing golf and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Marilyn J. Mercer; two sons, Richard Mercer and his wife, Janet, of Mardela Springs and Mike Mercer and his wife, Joanne, of Salisbury; five grandchildren, Jaime Mercer Schindelbeck and her husband, Shawn, Stacey Mercer, Jennifer Mercer Shipe and her husband, Brian, Matthew Mercer and Bryan Mercer; two great-grandchildren, Stefan and Kyle Schindelbeck; three sisters, Mary Huddleston, Arlene Nelson and Jean Marshall, all of Iowa; and two brothers, Gerald Mercer of Iowa and Dale Mercer of California.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury, with a visitation from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Officiating will be the Rev. Gordon Knox of Oak Ridge Baptist Church.

Arlene Adams Semeler
SALISBURY -- Arlene Adams Semeler, 74, of Salisbury died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
Born in Salisbury, she was a daughter of the late Howard Adams and Carrie Louise Turner Adams.
She attended Calvary Baptist Tabernacle and worked as a secretary in the medical field for various physicians for more than 30 years.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Joseph William Semeler Sr.; two children, Joseph W. Semeler Jr. and his wife, Shelly, and Karen S. Beauchamp and her husband, John, all of Salisbury; four grandchildren, Scott Semeler, Johnny, Jacob and Ashleigh Beauchamp; three brothers, Howard, Warren and John Adams; and a sister, Faith Fooks, all of Salisbury.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury. There will be a visitation Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and also Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. Officiating will be the Rev. Lou Bradley. Interment will follow in Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury.
