Nancy E. Keen
SALISBURY -- Nancy E. Keen, 74, of Salisbury died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2006, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
Born in Glen Burnie, Md., she was the daughter of the late James B. and Edith (May) Ellison.
She was a member of Wicomico Presbyterian Church in Salisbury. She taught for 18 years in Wicomico County schools. She was a member of Wicomico Junior Women's Club. She also was a volunteer for Lower Shore Enterprise. She enjoyed sewing and cooking.
She is survived by her husband, Victor Keen; one daughter, Nancy K. Brown and her husband, Gary, of Salisbury; two sons, H. Victor Keen III and his wife, Cindy, of Salisbury and Wayne L. Keen and his wife, Ericka, of Marietta, Ga.; four grandchildren, Jodi and Spencer Brown and Mckensey and Kyle Keen; a brother, James B. Ellison Jr. of Stevensville; and two nephews.
A memorial service will be held today at 3 p.m. at Wicomico Presbyterian Church in Salisbury, where the family will receive friends after the service. Officiating will be the Rev. Dick Hughes. Interment will be in Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Wicomico Presbyterian Church, c/o Trustees, 129 Broad St., Salisbury, Md. 21801.

Charles F. Smith
MILFORD -- Charles F. Smith of Milford, and formerly of Salisbury, died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2006, at Bayhealth Milford Memorial Hospital in Milford. He was 85.
Mr. Smith was born Feb. 26, 1921, in Salisbury, a son of the late William M. and Jeanette F. Hammond Smith.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving his country during World War II, where he assisted in building the China-Burma Road, and also in the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Smith was employed as a machinist with Dulany Foods, now Green Giant, in Fruitland for 35 years, retiring in 1980.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 7 in Harrington, Del.; a life member of the Salisbury Moose Lodge 654, where he held the degree of Pilgrim; a member of the Harrington Moose Lodge 534; and a member of the Salisbury Coin Club because of his great interest in collecting coins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Smith in 1989; a brother, William R. Smith; and two sisters, Anna Lee Tullis and Frances Bailey.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Charles R. and Sue Smith of Milford; a daughter, Ruth Ellen Lecates of Laurel; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
An American Legion service will be held Monday at 7 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at Rogers Funeral Home at 301 Lakeview Ave. in Milford, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will be private.
Instead of flowers, the family has requested memorial donations to the American Legion Post 7, 17448 S. DuPont Highway, Harrington, Del. 19952.
Nancy Metzger Edge
SALISBURY -- Nancy Metzger Edge, 43, of Salisbury went to be with the Lord, ending a courageous battle against cancer Thursday, Aug. 3, 2006.
Born in Baltimore on March 5, 1963, she is survived by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Melvin A. Metzger of Seaford.
She was educated in the public schools of Maryland and graduated from Kent County High School in 1981. She attended Salisbury University and was attending Wor-Wic Community College in preparation for a career in nursing. At Wor-Wic, she maintained an A average and was on the Dean's List.
While fighting cancer, Nancy spent much time with her parents at the Methodist Manor House in Seaford. She formed numerous friendships and touched the lives of many residents. Nancy loved to bake and surprised many with homemade treats. She enjoyed gardening and appreciated the beauty of nature and had a strong affection for animals. She spent much time with her family and friends, sharing her humor and love for life. Throughout her battle against cancer she was an inspiration, maintaining a positive attitude and optimistic outlook. She was cheerful and loving and her generous spirit touched the lives of many.
Nancy was preceded in death by her 6-month-old son, Zachary Bryan Edge in 1995.
She is survived by two sons, Christopher Bradley Edge and Alexander Michael Edge, both of Chestertown, Md.; her brother and sister-in-law, M. Scott and Sharon Metzger of Queenstown and their son, Kevin; her companion, Richard Hopkins of Salisbury; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; her longtime friend, Melissa Finney of Princess Anne; and her beloved cousin, Stephanie Metzger of Richmond.
A celebration of her life will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Barbara Wilson will be officiating. Interment will be held Monday in Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in Nancy's memory to Coastal Hospice, PO Box 1733, Salisbury, Md. 21802-1733.

Elizabeth Richardson Esham
SALISBURY -- Elizabeth Richardson Esham, 89, died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2006, at Salisbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Salisbury.
Born in Wicomico County on July 17, 1917, she was the daughter of the late George H. and Mae Twilley Richardson. She was also the wife of the late Otis G. Esham Sr., who died in April 1991.
She is survived by three sons, Robert G. Esham, DDS, and his wife, Sandy, Richard O. Esham and his friend, Sherrill Lemay, and Otis "Bud" and his wife, Jackie, all of Salisbury and a brother, Morris Richardson of Willards. Fond memories will remain with her grandchildren, Mark, Steven and Douglas, all of Florida, David, Mallory Tyre, Joseph, Allison and Jillian of Salisbury and Michael of Pennsylvania. Elizabeth "Lib" delighted in visiting with her great-grandchildren, Hunter and Morgan of Salisbury, Landyn and Kylie Elizabeth of Pennsylvania and Noah, Luke, Jenna and Lexie of Florida.
Mrs. Esham joined Bethesda United Methodist Church in Salisbury on March 1, 1936, and married
Otis G. Esham there on Oct. 1, 1938. She and Otis moved to Pittsville to work and raise a family. They became active members of Ayers Methodist Church of Pittsville for many years. When they moved back to Salisbury, she again became a devoted member of Bethesda United Methodist Church, where she was involved in the Koinonians and the creation of the Altar Guild, and for many years created the seasonal floral decorations. She was an active member of the Bethesda United Methodist Women's Club. She was a past member of Green Hill Yacht and Country Club. She was also a member and past president of the Town and Country Garden Club. Elizabeth loved gardening and arranging flowers and spending time with her family in various activities.
For many years Lib worked with her husband, Otis, in the strawberry business, the poultry business and later in developing the family farm into Nithsdale Developments.
Friends may attend the viewing Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury. A funeral service in remembrance and celebration of her life will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Bethesda United Methodist Church on North Division Street in Salisbury, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. A private committal will take place in Wicomico Memorial Park on Monday afternoon.

James "Buddy" Parker Baker III
SALISBURY -- James "Buddy" Parker Baker III, 36, died Friday, Aug. 4, 2006, at the Holly Center in Salisbury.
Born in Salisbury, he was the son of James Parker Baker Jr. and Penny Lee Scarborough Baker of Salisbury.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his sisters, Sheila Rivera of Snow Hill, Peggy Windsor and her husband, Tim, of Deal Island and Hope Waldner of Snow Hill; his maternal grandparents, Irving and Emma Scarborough of Snow Hill; four nieces and two nephews; one great-nephew; his maternal aunt, Elaine Laws; and paternal aunt, Madeline Baker.
His paternal grandparents, James Parker Baker and Thelma Cherrix Baker, preceded him in death.
Buddy made a great impact on the lives of all who knew him. He will be sadly missed.
A funeral service will be held in the Holly Center Gym, 926 Snow Hill Road in Salisbury on Monday at l p.m., where friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Jim Riley will officiate. Friends are respectfully asked to dress casually. Interment will follow in Springhill cemetery in Girdletree.

Harold "Ted" Scarlett
SALISBURY -- Harold "Ted" Scarlett, 63, of Salisbury died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2006, at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury.
Born in Cumberland, Md., he was the son of the late Ralph and Hilda (Twigg) Scarlett.
He served in the U.S. Army. He was the owner and operator of Ted's towing service. He was a member of the Delmarva Drag Club, the Eastern Mud Racing Association and the Branch Inn Hunt Club.
He is survived by one daughter, Kimberly Watson and her husband, Bryan, and one grandson, Andrew Watson, all of Parsonsburg; a sister, Gertrude Henson of Georgia; three brothers, Eddie Scarlett and his wife, Caroline, of Catonsville, Md., Richard Scarlett and his wife, Teresa, of Pennsylvania and Kenny Scarlett and his wife, Joyce Scarlett, of Baltimore; a stepson, Randy Beers and his wife, Shelli, of Mardela Springs; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Dwayne Scarlett; a sister, Helen Neptune; and a companion, Janice Beers.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury, where friends may call Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held Tuesday at Parsons cemetery in Salisbury.

Martha V. Bland
HURLOCK -- Martha V. Bland, 69, of Hurlock passed away Monday, July 24, 2006, at Dorchester General Hospital in Cambridge.
She was born in Hurlock on Aug. 28, 1936, and was a daughter of the late Alonzo W. and Inez Todd Marine.
She attended schools in Hurlock and graduated from North Dorchester High School in 1955, which was the school's first graduating class. Mrs. Bland had worked at Airpax and North American Philips in Cambridge for almost 40 years when she retired in 2003. She later worked part time at Egide and retired this past June.
She enjoyed traveling, golfing and any kind of sports as well as watching her grandsons play ball. She also enjoyed going to Harrington and playing the slots. She had attended Brookview United Methodist Church. Mrs. Bland had been in failing health for the past three months when she passed away on Monday afternoon.
She is survived by a companion, William "Bill" Nichols of Hurlock; two sons, Ricky A. Dukes of Linkwood and Kenneth C. Bland and his wife, Sandy Bland, of Cambridge; and four grandsons, Ricky A. Dukes Jr., Brian C. Dukes, K.C. Bland Jr. and Cody J. Bland. She is also survived by one sister, Sara Beckwith of Cambridge; four brothers, Donald Marine of Carlisle, Ill., Russell Marine of Salisbury, Jimmy Marine of Seaford and George Marine of Hurlock; several nieces and nephews; and her special dog, Georgie.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Alonzo W. Marine Jr.
A funeral service will be held Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge, with the Rev. A. Delmer Willey Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Unity-Washington cemetery near Hurlock. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Thomas Funeral Home.
